Fateh Al Khair’s fourth voyage in April

*Katara Traditional Dhow Festival concludes Saturday

The famous Qatari dhow Fateh Al Khair will set sail from Katara beach on its fourth historical voyage in April next year, it was announced Friday.

Fateh Al Khair 4 will cover Oman, Turkey, Greece, Italy, France, Spain, Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia, from where the dhow will begin its return journey via Oman.

The announcement was made by Katara Cultural Village general manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti at the 8th Katara Traditional Dhow Festival which concludes Saturday.

Over the past four days, Katara beach has become a most favourite destination, with thousands of Qataris and expatriates joining the festivities.

Visitors, mostly families, were treated to a dazzling fireworks display themed on marine traditions, for the second consecutive day on Friday.

In bright light and vivid colours, the mesmerising show narrated the story of life in the sea in the yesteryears. The crowd clapped and cheered as the fireworks drew incredible patterns and formations into the skyline.

The festival has showcased almost everything related to sea and marine and maritime traditions.

In a festive and traditional atmosphere, the event has provided a rare opportunity to the visitors to have a perfect feel of and firsthand knowledge about the marine traditions in the Gulf region.

Visitors to the Katara beach have been treated to traditional sea-related songs and dances, fishing and rowing competitions, products, souvenirs, equipment and techniques associated with sea, pearl diving and shipbuilding, along with traditional cuisine, among others.

They also had the opportunity to visit different types of traditional dhows and vessels anchored at the beach and meet and interact with marine experts, veteran divers, seafarers, craftsmen and boat builders from the participating countries.

The famous Qatari dhow Fatih Al Khair has put up a painting and photography exhibition showcasing its past three voyages.

The “Turkish House” at the festival is introducing shipbuilding techniques developed in the country over hundreds years, along with models of old and new ships. Representatives from the Bodrom Museum of Underwater Archaeology in Turkey are also attending the festival.

Stalls devoted to veteran Qatari artists and marine experts are also attracting a large number of people.

A major attraction for children visiting the festival is innovative art workshops about marine traditions. Over the past four days thousands of children took part in ten workshops to paint, draw, and make paper and gypsum models on diverse themes related to the sea. Experts are on hand to tell the children how to express and develop their skills and creativity.

كما استمتع الجمهور بالعروض الفنية الباهرة للألعاب النارية، التي أضاءت سماء «كتارا» وعكست ألوانها وأشكالها المثيرة على صفحات المياه، لترسم مشاهد خلابة وساحرة من الإبداع المرئي عن تراث البحر، ويعيش معها الزوار أجواء خيالية غاية في الجمال والروعة، وذلك من خلال سيناريو يروي الرحلات البحرية وحكايات الصيد والغوص على اللؤلؤ، حيث تعالت أصوات الجمهور فرحاً، وتسابقوا على توثيق تفاصيل هذه العروض المبدعة بكاميرات هواتفهم المحمولة.

وتواصلت المسابقات البحرية لليوم الرابع على التوالي، حيث شهدت مسابقة السباحة الفردية تنافساً قوياً بين المتسابقين، وجاءت نتائجهم كالتالي: المركز الأول إبراهيم الرميحي، وماثيو المركز الثاني، وميسرة الأعرج المركز الثالث، وأسامة الأعرج المركز الرابع، وعبدالله الإدريسي المركز الخامس. أما مسابقة الحداق، فجاءت نتائجها كالتالي: المركز الأول بدر سالم العريمي، والمركز الثاني حسين الهولي، والمركز الثالث عبدالرحمن خميس البدر، والمركز الرابع محمد علي بن عمر، والمركز الرابع مكرر عبدالرحمن محمد المرباطي. وكانت نتائج جر المجداف كالتالي: المركز الأول فريق الخور، والمركز الثاني فريق القلاف، والمركز الثالث فريق العديد، والمركز الرابع فريق العفيفة.

هذا، وتُختتم اليوم مسابقة الفنون التشكيلية التي شارك فيها 30 فناناً تشكيلياً من المواطنين والمقيمين. وقد عمل هؤلاء خلال أيام المهرجان على رسم لوحات فنية تعبّر وتوثّق للتراث البحري، من خلال جماليات بصرية تعالج صيد الأسماك والغوص على اللؤلؤ، ونمط الحياة المرتبط بالتراث البحري. واشترطت اللجنة المنظمة للمهرجان أن يكون العمل الفني المشارك في المسابقة من واقع المهرجان، على أن يشارك كل فنان بعمل تشكيلي واحد. وقد حددت الجوائز للمراكز الثلاثة الفائزة كالتالي: 30 ألف ريال للفائز الأول، و20 ألف ريال للفائز الثاني، و10 آلاف ريال للفائز الثالث.;
