Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel has revealed that the third dose of its vaccine will be ready next fall.
According to the British daily Mail, the company is testing three copies of the boosted dose for coronavirus, with two-thirds of volunteers getting an active version of the booster dose, which targets the South African mutated version of Coronavirus.
He added: The remaining third will receive a combination of the original Moderna vaccine with a single-dose booster injection, to find out which is more effective in protecting against the South African strain variant.
He noted that emergency use should be presented to the FDA in the third quarter of 2021, making supportive doses available by the fall.
“Six months to one year after a person receives the second dose, virus protection is likely to drop to between 70% and 80%, he said, adding, “We believe we will all need enhanced doses.”
Moderna has announced the effectiveness of its coronavirus vaccine even after six months of vaccination, noting that it is 90%, and 95% against serious cases of Coronavirus according to a statement issued following preliminary clinical trials, according to U.S. media.
The data would allow Moderna to obtain full authorization from U.S. authorities rather than the limited license currently enjoyed by the vaccine.
Moderna also plans to experiment with children between the ages of 6 months and 11 years.

أضاف: سيحصل الثلث المتبقي على حقنة تجمع بين لقاح موديرنا الأصلي، وحقنة معززة في جرعة واحدة، لمعرفة أيها أكثر فعالية في الحماية من متغير السلالة الجنوب إفريقية.
وأشار إلى أن الاستخدام الطارئ يجب أن يتم تقديمه إلى هيئة الأغذية والأدوية الأمريكية “FDA ” في الربع الثالث من عام 2021، ما يجعل الجرعات الداعمة متاحة بحلول الخريف.
