French Professor Sets deadline for Coronavirus

Doha: While coronavirus continues to claim more victims around the world, and large-scale global vaccination campaigns are launched to curb its outbreak, the most prominent question remains in the minds of many after a year of living through the pandemic: “When are we going to get rid of the coronavirus?

French Professor Philippe Amouyel believes that the real end of the Covid-19 virus will be in the summer of 2022, according to a report in Le Point by Audrey Emery.

Professor Amouyel was one of those who warned early last September of the second wave of the epidemic, but still believes there can be collective immunity that will begin to emerge at the end of this summer, according to Al Jazeera Net.

On his question whether we will get rid of the epidemic and see the end of the tunnel, Amouyel replied that when the number of people in recovery units decreases dramatically, and when there is enough vaccine to immunize between 400 thousand and 500 thousand people a day, we will overcome this epidemic, despite the presence of a difficult few weeks, some activities will reopen at the end of May and the beginning of June, under certain circumstances and in accordance with a specific health protocol.

Amouyel said politicians should listen more to what experts say, which would help them control the epidemic, and in order to reduce the severity of infection, many screenings and investigations are needed, which are the only way to implement the “test, track and isolate” strategy.

As for the other more dangerous mutations of coronavirus , scientifically called SARS-CoV-2, Amouyel said other mutations will appear as this is the natural cycle of the virus, and the rate of transmission of the virus in France contributes to the emergence of mutations of the virus, and after the British strain it is possible that other mutations may appear.

Amouyel added that we do not yet have enough awareness to assess the duration of protection for “Covid-19” vaccines or natural immunity, and as a result, the matter will become clear by the end of the year or the beginning of next year, and given all these unknown data, we can estimate the date of the end of the Coronavirus in the summer of the year 2022.

As to whether wearing face masks and social distancing would be the norm, Amouyel stated that at some point we would get rid of these procedures. On the other hand, these measures should be resumed once a new epidemic emerges

يرى البروفيسور الفرنسي فيليب أمويل أن النهاية الحقيقية لفيروس كورونا “كوفيد -19” ستكون في صيف 2022، وذلك وفقا لتقرير نشرته صحيفة “لوبوان” (Le Point) للكاتب أودري إيمري. 

وكان البروفيسور أمويل واحدا من أولئك الذين حذروا في وقت مبكر من سبتمبر/أيلول الماضي من الموجة الثانية من الوباء، لكنه لا يزال يؤمن بإمكانية وجود مناعة جماعية ستبدأ في الظهور في نهاية هذا الصيف، وفقا للجزيرة نت.

وفيما يتعلق بما إذا كانت هناك طفرات أخرى أكثر خطورة من فيروس كورونا -واسمه العلمي “سارس-كوف-2” (SARS-CoV-2) – قال أمويل إنه ستظهر طفرات أخرى نظرا لأن ذلك يعتبر الأداء الطبيعي لهذا الفيروس، وعلاوة على ذلك يساهم معدل انتقال الفيروس في فرنسا في ظهور التحويرات الخاصة بهذا الفيروس، وبعد السلالة البريطانية من الممكن أن تظهر طفرات أخرى.

وأضاف أمويل أنه ليس لدينا بعد ما يكفي من الإدراك لتقييم مدة حماية لقاحات “كوفيد-19” أو المناعة الطبيعية، ونتيجة لذلك سيتضح الأمر بحلول نهاية العام أو بداية العام المقبل، وبالنظر إلى كل هذه المعطيات المجهولة يمكننا تقدير تاريخ نهاية فيروس كورونا في صيف عام 2022.
