QU Announces Launch of Arab Cybersecurity Association

Doha: Qatar University (QU) has announced the launch of the Arab Cybersecurity Association, which aims to enhance joint Arab action in the field of supporting cybersecurity systems, discuss future challenges in this field and find solutions, in addition to discussing cooperation mechanisms to establish joint research and programs.

It also aims to strengthen cooperation with the Union of Arab Scientific Research Councils, to develop joint cooperation and benefit from the common capabilities of all parties in the fields of research, education and training, and to provide possible assistance within the limits of the specific competencies of each party, to achieve these goals in such a way as to fulfil their respective roles.

In a virtual meeting, which included the parties concerned with the association, President of Qatar University Dr. Hassan bin Rashid Al Derham stressed the importance of the association, and said that the university is proud of hosting it. He said that QU was known for its efforts in the field of scientific research, its results were reflected in the progress of Qatar University in the list of the best international universities, as it ranked 245 this year, according to the QS World University Rankings, while it advanced ninety places within one year, achieving 318th place according to the Times Higher Education classification.

He pointed out that these scientific experiences in various fields made Qatar University distinguished in the field of scientific research globally, as this was translated into competitive research grants won by members of the university locally and globally, as well as scientific papers published in prestigious journals in addition to patents.

He added that QU, by hosting the Arab Association for Cyber Security, will seek to support Arab research in this field, raise awareness of the dangers that threaten cyber security, enhance the level of security and keep pace with modern technology and techniques that will make electronic systems more secure and coherent, and more capable of facing challenges and countering cross-border crimes.

In turn, the Secretary-General of the Union of Arab Scientific Research Councils Dr. Mubarak Muhammad Ali Majzoub said that the issue of cybersecurity has become one of the main axes in the world as it relates to information and digital security, risk management, electronic governance, security monitoring and other threats facing the information society.

Arab Association for Cyber Security constitutes today a new beginning and confirms the existence of an Arab will for joint action and coordination of efforts to crystallize a vision to confront cybersecurity challenges, headed by Qatar University, he said.

For her part, Dr. Noura Fetais, the founding Secretary-General of the Arab Association for Cyber Security and Assistant Professor, Computer Science and Engineering Department Cybersecurity and Emerging Technology at the College of Engineering at QU, said that the association aims to coordinate and cooperate among Arab scientists in the field of cybersecurity.

She added that the association will encourage scientific research in cybersecurity and create opportunities for capacity building and development, qualifying young researchers in the Arab world and spreading societal awareness of the association’s work.

الدوحة: أعلنت جامعة قطر عن إطلاق /الرابطة العربية للأمن السيبراني/، التي تهدف لتعزيز العمل العربي المشترك في مجال دعم أنظمة الأمن السيبراني ومناقشة التحديات المستقبلية في هذا المجال وإيجاد الحلول لها، بالإضافة لبحث آليات التعاون لتأسيس بحوث وبرامج مشتركة.

كما تهدف الرابطة إلى تعزيز التعاون مع اتحاد مجالس البحث العلمي العربية بجامعة الدول العربية، لتنمية التعاون المشترك والاستفادة من الإمكانيات المشتركة للأطراف كافة في مجالات البحث والتعليم والتدريب، وتقديم المساعدات الممكنة في حدود الاختصاصات المحددة لكل طرف، لتحقيق هذه الأهداف على نحو يفعل الدور المنوط بكل منهما.

وفي لقاء عبر تقنية الاتصال المرئي، ضم الأطراف المعنية بالرابطة، أكد سعادة الدكتور حسن بن راشد الدرهم رئيس جامعة قطر أهمية الرابطة، وقال إن الجامعة فخورة باستضافتها بما يعزز جهودها في البحث العلمي في هذا الميدان.

وقال إن جامعة قطر عُرفت بجهودها في مجال البحث العلمي، وهي الجهود التي انعكست نتائجها على تقدّم جامعة قطر في قائمةِ أفضل الجامعات العالمية، حيث احتلت المرتبة 245 هذا العام، وفقاً لتصنيف /كيو-إس/ العالمي، بينما تقدمت تسعين مركزاً خلال عامٍ واحدٍ محققةً المركزَ 318 حسب تصنيف التايمز للتعليم العالي.

وأشار إلى أن هذه الخبرات العلمية في مختلف المجالات جعلت جامعة قطر تتميز في مجال البحث العلمي عالميا، حيث ترجم ذلك بالمنح البحثية التنافسية التي يفوز بها أعضاء الجامعة محليا وعالميا وأيضا بالأوراق العلمية التي تنشر في المجلات المرموقة بالإضافة لبراءات الاختراع.

وأضاف “أن الجامعة ومن خلال استضافة الرابطة العربية للأمن السيبراني ستسعى لدعم البحوث العربية في هذا الميدان، وزيادة الوعي بالمخاطر التي تتهدد الأمن الإلكتروني، وتعزيز مستوى الأمن ومواكبة التكنولوجيا والتقنيات الحديثة التي من شأنها أن تجعل الأنظمة الإلكترونية أكثر أمنا وتماسكا، وأكثر قدرة على مواجهة التحديات والتصدي للجرائم العابرة للحدود”.

بدوره قال الدكتور مبارك محمد علي مجذوب الأمين العام لاتحاد مجالس البحث العلمي العربية، إن موضوع الأمن السيبراني أصبح من المحاور الرئيسة في العالم كونه يتعلق بالأمن المعلوماتي والرقمي وإدارة المخاطر والحوكمة الإلكترونية والمراقبة الأمنية وغيرها من المهددات التي تجابه مجتمع المعلوماتية.

وأكد أن الرابطة العربية للأمن السيبراني تُشكل اليوم بداية انطلاق جديدة وتؤكد وجود إرادة عربية للعمل المشترك وتنسيق الجهود وصولاً إلى بلورة رؤية لمجابهة تحديات الأمن السيبراني، برئاسة جامعة قطر.

من جانبها، قالت الدكتورة نورة فطيس الأمين العام المؤسس للرابطة العربية للأمن السيبراني والأستاذ المشارك في قسم علوم وهندسة الحاسب في كلية الهندسة بجامعة قطر، إن الرابطة تهدف للتنسيق والتعاون بين العلماء العرب في مجال الأمن السيبراني.

وأضافت أن الرابطة ستعمل على تشجيع البحوث العلمية في الأمن السيبراني وإيجاد فرص لبناء القدرات وتطويرها، وتأهيل الباحثين الشباب في العالم العربي ونشر الوعي المجتمعي بما يخص عمل الرابطة.
