Qatar Prepares For Major Leap in Project and Construction Market

Doha: Qatar is preparing for strong growth in the enterprise and construction market, benefiting from Qatar’s new LiquifiedNatural Gas “LNG” boom, the legacy of the 2022 World Cup and the opportunities offered by the country’s business sector, according to MEED economic magazine.
Over the past decade, Qatar’s investment has been focused on developing the infrastructure needed to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup, including stadiums, airports, railway lines, metro, entertainment and hospitality facilities, the magazine said.
About $13.6 billion a year has been invested on local project contracts over the past decade, and as a result, the magazine says Qatar’s project market will have many similarities to the previous decade’s boom.
Part of the answer to questions about the future of investments in Qatar after the 2022 World Cup came on February 8, 2021, when Qatar Gas awarded a $13 billion contract for the main package for the first phase of its massive northeastern field expansion project to a consortium from Japan’s Chiyoda and French company Technip Energies, the magazine said.
It is the largest single contract ever awarded in the region, an important project similar to previous major projects, similarly when investments were made to develop six large LNG trains, making Qatar the world’s largest natural gas exporter. Qatar’s project market will therefore now have many similarities to the previous decade’s boom, and the similarity goes beyond LNG.

وتضيف المجلة إن جزءا من الإجابة على الأسئلة التي تطرح بخصوص مستقبل الاستثمارات في قطر بعد تنظيم كأس العالم 2022، جاء في يوم 8 فبراير 2021، عندما منحت شركة قطر غاز عقدا بقيمة 13 مليار دولار للحزمة الرئيسية للمرحلة الأولى من مشروعها الضخم لتوسيع حقل الشمال الشرقي إلى كونسورتيوم من شركة شيودا اليابانية وشركة Technip Energies الفرنسية. وهو أكبر عقد منفرد يتم منحه على الإطلاق في المنطقة، وهو مشروع مهم ويماثل مشاريع كبرى سابقة، وعلى نحو مماثل عندما تم ضخ استثمارات لتطوير ستة قطارات كبيرة للغاز الطبيعي المسال LNG لتصبح بذلك قطر أكبر مصدر للغاز الطبيعي في العالم. ولذلك سيكون لسوق المشاريع في قطر حاليا العديد من أوجه التشابه مع طفرة العقد السابق، والتشابه يتجاوز الغاز الطبيعي المسال.
