Biden Sends Greetings to Muslims for Ramadan, Vows to Stand for Muslim Communities

Washington: US President Joe Biden sent warmest greetings to Muslim communities in the United States and around the world, stressing the importance of Muslims in the social structure of the United States.
In a statement published by the White House, President Biden said: “As many of our fellow Americans begin fasting tomorrow, we are reminded of how difficult this year has been. In this pandemic, friends and loved ones cannot yet gather together in celebration and congregation, and far too many families will sit down for iftar with loved ones missing.”
“Muslim Americans have enriched our country since our founding. They are as diverse and vibrant as the America they have helped build. Today, Muslims are leading in our efforts to fight COVID-19, playing a pioneering role in vaccine development and serving as frontline health care workers. They are creating jobs as entrepreneurs and business owners, risking their lives as first responders, teaching in our schools, serving as dedicated public servants across the nation, and playing a leading role in our ongoing struggle for racial equity and social justice,” the President underlined.
“But still, Muslim Americans continue to be targeted by bullying, bigotry, and hate crimes. This prejudice and these attacks are wrong. They are unacceptable. And they must stop. No one in America should ever live in fear of expressing his or her faith. And my administration will work tirelessly to protect the rights and safety of all people,” he continued.
“On my first day as President, I was proud to end the shameful Muslim travel ban, and I will continue to stand up for human rights everywhere, including for Uyghurs in China, Rohingya in Burma, and Muslim communities all over the world,” Biden noted.
On her side, US Vice President Kamala Harris sent greetings to Muslims around the world on the Holy month of Ramadan through a video message on Twitter. She wrote, “Around the world, Muslim families are taking time to help those who need it most, and reflect on the blessings that come with faith.”

واشنطن: هنّأ الرئيس الأمريكي، جو بايدن، المسلمين في الولايات المتحدة وحول العالم بقدوم شهر رمضان، مشددا على أهمية المسلمين في تركيبة الولايات المتحدة الاجتماعية.
وفي بيان نشره البيت الأبيض، قال بايدن، “مع بدء الأمريكيين المسلمين صيامهم، نتذكر الصعوبات التي واجهناها هذا العام. خلال هذه الجائحة، لا يمكن للأصدقاء والأحباء الاجتماع للاحتفال سويا، والعديد من العائلات ستجلس وحدها لتناول الإفطار دون أحبائها”.
وأكد بايدن أن “الأمريكيين المسلمين أثروا بلادنا منذ تأسيسها، إنهم يمتازون بالتنوع والاختلاف مثل أمريكا التي ساهموا في تأسيسها. اليوم، المسلمون يقودون جهود مكافحة كوفيد-19، ويلعبون دورا رئيسيا في تطوير اللقاحات ويتقدمون العمال في قطاع الرعاية الصحية، إنهم يخلقون فرصا للتوظيف كرواد وأصحاب أعمال، ويخاطرون بحياتهم للاستجابة للطوارئ والتعليم في المدارس، ويخدمون بتفانٍ في القطاعات العامة عبر أرجاء البلاد”.
واستدرك الرئيس الأمريكي قائلا: “لكن ومع هذا كله، يتواصل استهداف الأمريكيين المسلمين من خلال التنمر والانحياز وجرائم الكراهية. هذا التعصب وهذه الهجمات خاطئة. هي غير مقبولة. ويجب أن تتوقف. لا يجب على أي شخص في أمريكا أن يعيش، أو تعيش، في خوف من التعبير عما يؤمن به. وإدارتي ستعمل بلا كلل لحماية حقوق الناس كافة وسلامتهم”.
وأشار بايدن إلى قرار حظر السفر الذي قام بإبطاله، قائلا “في أول يوم من رئاستي، كنت فخورا بإنهاء حظر سفر المسلمين المعيب، وسأواصل الدفاع عن حقوق الإنسان في كل مكان، من بينهم الإيغور في الصين والروهينغا في ميانمار والمجتمعات المسلمة في كافة أنحاء العالم”.
من جانبها، هنأت السيدة كامالا هاريس، نائبة الرئيس الأمريكي، في تغريدة بالفيديو عبر تويتر، المسلمين حول العالم بشهر رمضان المبارك، “الذي تأخذ فيه العائلات المسلمة وقتا لمساعدة من هم في أمس الحاجة إلى المساعدة، والتأمل في النعم التي تأتي مع الإيمان”.
