San Francisco: A new U.S. study reveals that increased hours spent online may be associated with cyberbullying behaviors, particularly among adolescents.
“There are some people who engage in cyberbullying online because of the anonymity and the fact that there’s no retaliation,” says Amanda Giordano, co-author of the study at the University of Georgia’s Mary Frances Early College of Education.
“You have these adolescents who are still in the midst of cognitive development, but we’re giving them technology that has a worldwide audience and then expecting them to make good choices.” she said.
Cyberbullying can take on many forms, including personal attacks, harassment or discriminatory behavior, dissemination of misinformation, of oneself or others, etc.

سان فرانسيسكو: كشفت دراسةٌ جديدة في الولايات المتحدة أنّ زيادة عدد السّاعات التي يقضيها الشخصُ على مواقع التواصل الاجتماعيّ قد تكون مرتبطةً باتجاهِه إلى سلوكيات التنمر على الإنترنت، لاسيّما في أوساط المراهقين. وتقول أماندا جيوردانو التي شاركت في أعداد الدراسة بكلية ماري فرانسيس للتربية التابعة لجامعة جيورجيا الأمريكية: «ينخرط البعض في سلوكيات التنمر على الإنترنت لأنّ هُويتهم تكون غير معروفة، ونظرًا لأنه لا يوجد عقاب على أفعالهم».
وأوضحت في تصريحات للموقع الإلكتروني «ساينس ديلي»، المتخصص في التكنولوجيا: «نجد مراهقين لا يزالون في طور النموّ العقلي، ولكنهم يحصلون على تقنيات تُتيح لهم الانفتاح على العالم بأسره، ثم تتوقّع منهم القيام بخيارات صائبة». وتأخذ أعمال التنمّر عبر الإنترنت أشكالًا سلوكيّة مُختلفة، مثل الهجمات الشخصيّة والمُضايقات وارتكاب أفعال تمييزية ونشر معلومات خاطئة، أو خاصّة بالآخرين، وغير ذلك.
