What You Don’t Know About April Fool’s Day and Its Origin

Doha: April’s Fool, April Fool’s Day or the first of April’s fool is known as a traditional occasion in several countries, where people trick each other.
April Fool’s Day is not a national day or is legally recognized as an official celebration. But it’s a day when people celebrate, make jokes and fool each other.
April’s Fool is known in most countries of the world, despite differences in colours and cultures, and the majority of researchers’ opinions have argued that “April Fool’s Day” is a European tradition based on banter in which people spread rumors or white lies and those who believe these rumors or lies are called “the victims of the April Fool’s Day”
There is no certain truth to the origin of this custom, as some opinions suggested that the origin of this day is that many European cities were celebrating the beginning of the year on the first of April, as this custom began in France after the adoption of the modified calendar established by Charles IX in 1564 and France was the first country that operated on this calendar and until that date, the celebration of New Year’s Day began on March 21st and ended on April 1st.
Another group of researchers in the origin of lying believe that its origins go back to the Middle Ages, since April in this period was the time of intercession of the madmen and the weak minds, they are released at the beginning of the month while the wise people pray for them, and then the celebration known as the celebration of all the madmen originated like the celebration known as Halloween.
Other researchers assert that the April Fool’s Day was not known to the majority of the world’s people until the 19th century.

الدوحة: تشتهر كذبة أبريل أو كذبة نيسان أو يوم كذبة أبريل بأنها مناسبة تقليدية في عدد من الدول، حيث يقوم الناس بافتعال الخدع مع الآخرين.
يوم كذبة أريل لا يُعد يوماً وطنياً أو مُعترف به قانونياً كاحتفال رسمي. لكنه يوم اعتاد الناس فيه على الاحتفال وإطلاق النكات وخداع بعضهم البعض.
تعد هذه المزحة مُنتشرة في غالبية دول العالم باختلاف ألوانهم وثقافاتهم، وذهبت أغلبية آراء الباحثين إلى أن “كذبة أبريل” تقليد أوروبي قائم على المزاح يقوم فيه الناس بإطلاق الإشاعات أو الأكاذيب البيضاء ويطلق على من يصدق هذه الإشاعات أو الأكاذيب اسم “ضحية كذبة أبريل”.
لا توجد حقيقة مؤكدة لأصل هذه العادة، حيث رجحت بعض الآراء أن أصل هذا اليوم هو أن الكثير من مدن أوروبا ظلت تحتفل بمطلع العام في الأول من أبريل، حيث بدأت هذه العادة في فرنسا بعد تبني التقويم المعدل الذي وضعه شارل التاسع عام 1564 وكانت فرنسا أول دولة تعمل بهذا التقويم وحتى ذلك التاريخ كان الاحتفال بعيد الرأس السنة يبدأ في يوم 21 مارس وينتهي في الأول من أبريل.
وهناك جانب آخر من الباحثين في أصل الكذب يرون أن نشأته تعود إلى القرون الوسطى إذ أن شهر أبريل في هذه الفترة كان وقت الشفاعة للمجانين وضعاف العقول فيطلق سراحهم في أول الشهر ويصلي العقلاء من أجلهم وفي ذلك الحين نشأ العيد المعروف باسم عيد جميع المجانين أسوة بالعيد المشهور باسم عيد جميع القديسين.
وهناك باحثون آخرون يؤكدون أن كذبة أول أبريل لم تنتشر بشكل واسع بين غالبية شعوب العالم إلا في القرن التاسع عشر.
