US President Announces $2 Trillion Infrastructure Plan

Washington: US President Joe Biden unveiled a more than $2 trillion infrastructure package as his administration shifts its focus to bolstering the post-pandemic economy.
The plan Biden outlined Wednesday includes roughly $2 trillion in spending over eight years.
Speaking at a union hall in Pittsburgh, Biden called it a vision to create “the strongest, most resilient, innovative economy in the world” and millions of “good-paying jobs” along the way.
The plan aims to revitalize US transportation infrastructure, water systems, broadband and manufacturing, among other goals.
“It will create millions of jobs, good-paying jobs. It will grow the economy, make us more competitive around the world, promote our national security interests, and put us in a position to win the global competition with China in the upcoming years,” Biden said in his remarks on the American Jobs Plan.
“Leading economists are now predicting our economy will grow 6 percent this year,” he said. “It just goes to show you how distorted and unfair our economy has become. It wasn’t always this way. Well, it’s time to change that,” he added.
Regarding Covid-19 pandemic, Biden said that more than 547 Americans dead from the virus, adding “Wall Street didn’t build this country. The great middle class built this country.”

وأوضح أن الخطة تشمل تحديث شبكة النقل في الولايات المتحدة، وخلق ملايين فرص العمل ومواجهة قضية تغير المناخ، وإصلاح البنية التحتية.
وعن أهمية الخطة، قال بايدن إنها “ستتيح للولايات المتحدة الفوز في المنافسة العالمية مع الصين”، لا سيما وأنها ستعمل على توفير ملايين الوظائف بعوائد جيدة للأمريكيين.
وتوقع أن ينمو الاقتصاد الأمريكي خلال الفترة المقبلة بنسبة تتجاوز 6 بالمئة، وقال “اقتصادنا أصبح غير متوازن وحان الوقت لإصلاح هذا الوضع”.
وتطرق الرئيس الأمريكي إلى أزمة تفشي فيروس كورونا المستجد “كوفيد-19” في البلاد، وقال “الجائحة تستعر وأكثر من 547 ألف مواطن ماتوا بالفيروس”، مؤكدا على ضرورة “دعم الطبقة الوسطى التي شيّدت أمريكا وليس وول ستريت”.
