Amir gives directives to allocate $50m to support Syrian people

Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has given directions to allocate $50m to support the Syrian refugees and displaced persons who suffer tough humanitarian conditions as a result of displacement and the cold winter weather.

The State of Qatar extends this grant in the form of an urgent relief aid package and a group of development programs, through Qatar Fund for Development, to the Syrian refugees in Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, in addition to the displaced within Syria.

The grant will be distributed as follows: $20m to support the displaced within Syria, $10m for programs supporting refugees in each of Jordan, Turkey and Lebanon, adding up to a total of $30m in the three countries.

From the grant allocated for Syrian refugees in Lebanon, $5m will be given to support the relief campaign in Arsal, which is supervised by Qatar Charity.

Qatar Fund for Development, in coordination with its partners such as the White Helmets and related United Nations agencies, will be responsible for spending these amounts in direct humanitarian relief programs to alleviate the effects of the winter cold, in addition to development programs in the education and health services fields.

Meanwhile, Qatar Charity yesterday held a fund raising campaign for Syrian refugees on Qatar TV in which a large number of people and business entities donated generously for the cause. In a few hours live TV campaign, around QR214m were donated till going to press.

In the live TV programme many philanthropists from Qatar participated to motivate people to come forward with a generous heart for suffering refugees who are coping with harsh weather conditions in their camps.

Eid Charity donated QR1.5m to Qatar Charity (QC) for its ‘Arsal Relief’ campaign during a fund raising programme on Qatar TV yesterday, QC has tweeted.

Al Hayat Medical Center donated QR1m. The eateries and cafeteria running at the food court of Aspire Park also pledged to donate a portion of their income made yesterday to the campaign. The ‘Arsal Relief’ campaign is being run by QC, in cooperation with its partners, to support storm-hit Syrian refugees in Lebanon.

In parallel to the fund raising campaign ‘Arsal Relief’ on Qatar TV, Qatar Holy Quran Radio, Qatar Radio and a team of QC were available at Gulf Mall to encourage the visitors for donation.

Qatar Charity said in a release the campaign witnessed considerable interaction from a number of commercial, medical, media, sporting and educational organizations and social media influencers.

وتقدم دولة قطر هذه المنحة على شكل حزمة من المعونات الإغاثية العاجلة ومجموعة من البرامج التنموية، من خلال صندوق قطر للتنمية إلى الإخوة السوريين اللاجئين في كل من تركيا ولبنان والأردن، بالإضافة إلى النازحين في الداخل السوري.

وسيتم توزيع مبلغ المنحة على النحو التالي: 20 مليون دولار لدعم النازحين داخل الأراضي السورية، و10 ملايين دولار لبرامج دعم اللاجئين في كل من الأردن وتركيا ولبنان، ليصل مجموع المبالغ للاجئين السوريين في الدول الثلاث إلى 30 مليون دولار. وسيتم تخصيص خمسة ملايين ريال قطري من المنحة المقررة للاجئين السوريين في لبنان لدعم حملة الإغاثة في عرسال التي تشرف عليها جمعية قطر الخيرية.

وسيتولى صندوق قطر للتنمية التنسيق مع عددٍ من شركائه كالخوذ البيضاء ووكالات الأمم المتحدة المختصة لصرف هذه المبالغ في برامج إغاثة إنسانية مباشرة للتخفيف من آثار برد الشتاء، بالإضافة إلى البرامج التنموية في قطاعات التعليم والخدمات الصحية.;
