“On the issue of the delivery of AstraZeneca shipments, about which there is a dispute with Britain, Breton reiterated the European Commission’s position, saying that “unless AstraZeneca fulfills its obligations (towards the European Union), everything produced in Europe is destined for the Europeans.”
The European Union suspects that the Swedish-British laboratory has given priority to London over Brussels.
Breton said, “The British cannot manage the vaccination policy alone,” adding: “Britain has produced only ten million doses so far. We have delivered twenty million doses to help the British. They are completely dependent on us.”
He retracted earlier statements against the Russian Sputnik vaccine, in which he said that there was “no need” for it and that Russia was “having difficulty manufacturing it,” infuriating Russian President Vladimir Putin, before saying today that “all vaccines are welcome”, and estimated that the Russian vaccine was “produced in a poor way” and that if it was licensed in Europe it would take time “to find a way to produce it.
A Reuters count today showed that more than 126.72 million people have been infected with Coronavirus worldwide, while the total number of deaths from the virus has reached 2.9 million and 904,222 since the first cases were detected in China in December 2019.

وأضاف بروتون “لدينا القدرة على الإنتاج ومنح مواطنينا الأوروبيين 360 مليون جرعة بحلول نهاية الربع الثاني، والـ420 مليون جرعة الضرورية (…) لنبدأ الحديث عن مناعة جماعية والتوصل إليها” منتصف يوليو، وهي تصريحات مماثلة لما قاله قبل أسبوع بأن بإمكان أوروبا تحقيق مناعة جماعية بحلول 14 يوليو.
واعتبر أنه “يجب الانتظار بضعة أسابيع أخرى حتى نكبح انتشار الفيروس ونلقّح في الآن ذاته بنسق أعلى”، متابعاً “سيتعين علينا زيادة السرعة، لكننا نعلم الآن أننا سنكون قادرين على القيام بذلك” على مستوى الإنتاج.
وفي موضوع تسليم شحنات أسترازينيكا التي يوجد خلاف حولها مع بريطانيا، كرر بروتون موقف المفوضية الأوروبية قائلاً إنه “ما لم تف أسترازينيكا بالتزاماتها (تجاه الاتحاد الأوروبي)، فإن كلّ ما ينتج في أوروبا موجّه للأوروبيين”.
ويشتبه الاتحاد الأوروبي في أن المختبر السويدي البريطاني أعطى الأولوية للندن على حساب بروكسل.
واعتبر بروتون أن “البريطانيين لا يستطيعون إدارة السياسة اللقاحية وحدهم”، مضيفاً: “بريطانيا لم تنتج حتى الآن سوى عشرة ملايين جرعة. سلمنا عشرين مليون جرعة لمساعدة البريطانيين. إنهم معتمدون علينا بشكل كامل”.
وتراجع عن تصريحات سابقة ضد لقاح سبوتنيك الروسين التي قال خلالها أنه “لا توجد أي حاجة” له وأن روسيا “تواجه صعوبة في تصنيعه”، ما أثار سخط الرئيس الروسي فلاديمير بوتين، قبل أن يقول اليوم إن “كلّ اللقاحات مرحّب بها”، وقدّر أن اللقاح الروسي “ينتج بنسق ضعيف” وأنه في حال رخّصته أوروبا سيتطلب الأمر وقتاً “لإيجاد طريقة لإنتاجه”.
وأظهر إحصاء لرويترز اليوم أن ما يزيد على 126.72 مليون نسمة أُصيبوا بكورونا على مستوى العالم، في حين وصل إجمالي عدد الوفيات الناتجة عن الفيروس إلى مليونين و904222 منذ اكتشاف أولى حالات الإصابة في الصين في ديسمبر 2019.
