Sheikh Faisal Museum tour to spread Arab culture in Europe

DOHA: Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum has announced the first presentation of its exciting international touring exhibition The Majlis – Cultures in Dialogue, which started yesterday till October 28, 2018 at the Grand Master’s Palace in Valletta, Malta.

Based on the concept of the traditional space of learning, discussion, dialogue and sharing present in every home in the Arabian Gulf, The Majlis – Cultures in Dialogue will be presented at various major venues in Valletta, Paris, Vienna and throughout Europe, said a release. The exhibition itself represents the first part of a wider project that seeks to connect people, beliefs and cultures by offering a platform for respectful, yet incisive dialogue.

The Majlis – Cultures in Dialogue is organised at the initiative of the Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum, in collaboration with Qatar Museums, Unesco Doha Office and the Qatar National Committee for Education, Culture and Science and Qatar Shell.

It is presented for the first time in Malta under the Patronage of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, the President of Malta, and Unesco Malta with the endorsement of Valletta 2018 European Capital of Culture.

A Majlis is the social space present in homes throughout the Arabian Gulf. For hundreds of years and up to the present day, it has been a setting for hospitality and dialogue, where families welcome visitors bearing stories and exotic gifts from their homelands, where children learn from their elders, and where communities gather to make decisions, great and small.

For the first time, The Majlis – Cultures in Dialogue will offer European audiences the experience of a real majlis. Visitors will be encouraged to sit, listen to stories and exchange ideas with each other and with scholars on what they see, discover and experience in the displays.

The exhibition The Majlis – Cultures in Dialogue will be accompanied by a full-colour, hardcover photo book in English published by Skira Editore.

Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, the President of Malta, said: “We must work together to celebrate diversity in all its forms. To achieve this, it is essential for us to intensify intercultural encounters and interfaith dialogue and to keep reaching out across the borders and beyond the barriers that artificially constrain us – especially by empowering young people and providing safe and welcoming spaces where their voices can be heard.”

Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim bin Faisal Al Thani said: “By understanding and embracing heritage, we become aware of the things we have in common, an awareness which in turn inspires a sense of belonging to something much bigger—a sense of identity and unity. It is my hope that by sharing objects which connect peoples with their past, The Majlis – Cultures in Dialogue will be both a fitting celebration of this heritage and a catalyst for further dialogue in the future. ”

تحت الرعاية الكريمة لحضرة صاحب السمو الشيخ تميم بن حمد آل ثاني أمير البلاد المفدى، افتتح أمس الأول المعرض الدولي المتنقل لمتحف الشيخ فيصل بعنوان «مجلس حوار الثقافات» في نسخته الأولى، ويستمر حتى 28 أكتوبر المقبل في العاصمة المالطية فاليتا،عاصمة الثقافة الأوروبية.

وحضر الافتتاح فخامة الرئيسة ماري لويس كولييرو بريشا رئيسة جمهورية مالطا وعدد من الوزراء والمسؤولين هناك، ومن الجانب القطري سعادة السيد صلاح بن غانم العلي وزير الثقافة والرياضة، وسعادة الدكتور حمد بن عبدالعزيز الكواري وزير الدولة، وسعادة الشيخ فيصل بن قاسم آل ثاني مالك متحف الشيخ فيصل، وعدد من كبار المسؤولين القطريين والمهتمين.

ويقام المعرض بالشراكة مع متاحف قطر وتراث جمهورية مالطا ومكتب اليونسكو بالدوحة و اللجنة الوطنية للتعليم والثقافة والعلوم بقطر، ويشتمل على مجموعة مميزة من قطع متحف الشيخ فيصل بن قاسم آل ثاني، حيث يتضمن نحو 50 قطعة من بين أكثر من 300 ألف قطعة في المتحف، وسيجول عددا من الدول الأوروبية بعد مالطا، المحطة الأولى في هذه الجولة، ومنها باريس أواخر نوفمبر المقبل ثم إلى النمسا، ألمانيا، هولندا، روسيا، والمملكة المتحدة حتى نهاية عام 2020 .

رئيسة مالطا: يجب أن نتكاتف من أجل الاحتفاء بالتنوع الثقافي

تقدمت فخامة ماري لويس كوليرو بريكا رئيسة جمهورية مالطا -في كلمتها الافتتاحية- بالشكر إلى حضرة صاحب السمو الشيخ تميم بن حمد آل ثاني أمير البلاد المفدى، على دعمه للثقافة، وهذا المعرض .

وأشارت إلى أن العاصمة فاليتا عاصمة أوروبا الثقافية، ولم يأتِ ذلك من فراغ، وإنما جاء بسبب أن بلادها تعد جسراً لمرور الثقافات في قلب البحر الأبيض المتوسط، مؤكدة على أن مجلس حوار الثقافات سيساهم في مزيد من السلام والرخاء، وتنويع الثقافات، حيث تعد الثقافة العربية أحد أعمدة الموروث العالمي.

وأضافت رئيسة مالطا قائلة: «يجب أن نتكاتف معاً، من أجل الاحتفاء بالتنوع في جميع أشكاله. ولتحقيق هذا الهدف، من الضروري أن نكثف اللقاءات بين الثقافات، ونعزز الحوار، ونستمر في راب الصدع، وتكسير الحواجز التي تحول دون تواصلنا، لا سيما عن طريق تمكين الشباب، وتوفير مساحات آمنة تتسم بكرم الضيافة، يمكن سماع الآراء من خلالها».

الكواري: القطاع الخاص رديف للقطاع العام في الثقافة

أشاد سعادة الدكتور حمد بن عبدالعزيز الكواري وزير الدولة -في كلمة له بالمناسبة- بسعادة الشيخ فيصل بن قاسم آل ثاني، مشيراً إلى أنه ضرب المثل بأن جعل القطاع الخاص رديفاً للقطاع العام في الثقافة، كما أن لمؤسسته نشاطاً كبيراً في الثقافة، حيث استوعب أهمية الثقافة مبكراً، وجمع من الآثار والتحف والقطع النادرة ما لم تصل إليه بعض الدول.

ولفت إلى أن تنظيم المعرض يهدف إلى تحقيق إشعاع أكبر لهذه الثقافة خارجياً، من أجل التفاهم والتبادل الثقافي، لإظهار الوجه الحقيقي لقطر، الذي يقوم على احترام الثقافة والشعوب والحوار والتفاعل مع الثقافات الأخرى. وأضاف الكواري أن معرض حوار الثقافات ليس مجرد معرض يتضمن قطعاً جميلة وهادفة من مجموعة الشيخ فيصل آل ثاني فحسب، ولكنه مثال يكشف كيف يمكن للتحف الفنية أن تحكي قصة تشابك الثقافات المختلفة، مشيراً إلى أن المعرض يكشف عن الدور المهم الذي تقوم به المتاحف والمسؤولية التي تكتنفها في سبيل تقديم فرص تعليمية وثقافية للجمهور، وبناء التوعية الذاتية، وتعزيز الانفتاح على المعرفة، وتقدير وفهم التنوع الثقافي، وتبني منهج التعلم طوال الحياة.;
