Moscow: Russian scientists and doctors have devised the first new method to treat complex brain tumors, which cannot be treated surgically, allowing the use of positional chemotherapy, without affecting the entire body, helping to save the lives of thousands of patients with brain tumors.
Doctors tested this method, on a monkey, in a two-hour trial, allowing doctors not to need to open the skull with only two small incisions to treat brain tumors.
“The surgeon only makes two small incisions 4-5 cm to detect the carotid blood vessels,” says Dr. Georgi Yifmutchkin, a cardiologist at Krasnodar Regional Hospital in the Russian Republic, special valves are placed on these vessels, through which the chemotherapy drug reaches the brain, affecting only the tumor without affecting other tissues and organs. stressing that this method does not cause any irreparable damage to the nervous system.
During this procedure, the head of the monkey who underwent this experiment obtained blood separately from his body, the level of the drug used was three times higher than in the traditional method, and the blood is purified, before the patient is returned to a unified blood cycle.
It should be noted that seven monkeys have undergone this experimental process, all of which are in good condition and are no different from other monkeys, yet other experiments should be carried out according to the scientists themselves.
