Washington: The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) announced that the airfield at Kabul’s airport had been reopened after it had stopped earlier for security reasons.
Major General Hank Taylor, a logistics specialist on the Pentagon’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said that the airport reopened on Monday evening, adding that flights had resumed with the landing of a C-17 transport aircraft carrying US Marines, and a second one loaded with an army unit is to land soon, to help establish security for the airport.
Kabul Airport authority announced on Monday the suspension of all commercial flights at Hamid Karzai International Airport (HKIA) in Kabul, and urged the public not to crowd in the airport.
Many countries in the world began evacuating their citizens from Afghanistan after the Taliban movement took control of major cities in country, including the capital, Kabul.
On Sunday, regional and international airlines suspended flights to Kabul due to political and security developments, while other countries warned their citizens against traveling to Afghanistan amid widespread evacuations.

واشنطن: أعلنت وزارة الدفاع الأمريكية (بنتاغون)، أن مطار /كابول/ عاد إلى للعمل من جديد، بعدما توقف في وقت سابق لأسباب أمنية.
وقال الميجور جنرال هانك تايلور المسؤول في هيئة الأركان المشتركة في البنتاغون، إن المطار أعيد فتحه مساء أمس الاثنين، مضيفا أن حركة الملاحة استؤنفت بهبوط طائرة نقل عسكرية من طراز سي-17 وعلى متنها عناصر من مشاة البحرية الأمريكية، مشيراً إلى أنّ طائرة ثانية مماثلة على متنها وحدة من الجيش الأمريكي ستليها، في تعزيزات هدفها ضمان أمن المطار.
وكانت هيئة مطار كابول قد أعلنت أمس الاثنين تعليق جميع الرحلات التجارية في مطار حامد كرزاي الدولي في كابول، وحثت هيئة المطار الجمهور على عدم الازدحام بالمطار.
وبدأت عديد دول العالم، بإجلاء رعاياها من أفغانستان، بعد سيطرة حركة طالبان على مناطق واسعة من البلاد، بينها العاصمة كابول.
وأول أمس الأحد، علقت شركات طيران إقليمية ودولية رحلاتها إلى كابل، بسبب التطورات السياسية والأمنية، فيما حذرت دول أخرى مواطنيها من السفر إلى أفغانستان، وسط عمليات إجلاء واسعة.
