Dana Al-fardan Composes Her New Musical “Rumi”

Doha: Dana Al Fardan, one of the Middle East’s leading contemporary composers, is pleased to announce her second major stage musical “Rumi”, along with writing partner and West End star Nadim Naaman, and featuring West End and Broadway star Ramin Karimloo.
Rumi’, based on a story about the 13th century philosopher and poet Rumi by Evren Sharma, follows Dana and Nadim’s 2018 musical debut, ‘Broken Wings’ which premiered in the West End to sell out shows at the Theatre Royal Haymarket before touring the Middle East.
“Composing ‘Rumi’ has been the ultimate journey in unraveling components that are socially constructed from those that form our own personal truth and consciousness, In light of our shared experience this year and with unprecedented events, writing “Rumi” was an opportunity to discover the wonderful creative power of Jalāl ad-Dīn Rūmī. I am confident that we will give the public a unique experience to discover great art.”
Rumi: The Musical will launch first with a full-length concept album, with Ramin Karimloo and Nadim Naaman heading a West End cast comprising entirely of performers of Middle Eastern, North African and South Asian heritage, as well as featuring The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra
The musical will feature Ramin Karimloo, a well-known actor, singer and composer. Joe Davison coordinated the musical, audio production from Nikki Davison, and Middle Eastern musical supervision by Maias Alyamani. The album was produced by Joe and Nikki Davison from Auburn Jam Music.
Rumi: The Musical’ was recorded in London and Doha throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, which gave it a distinctive character combining Middle Eastern authenticity with classical influences and contemporary musical theatre, with lyrics derived from The Poetry of Jalāl ad-Dīn Rūmī, and will be launched on all major digital platforms later this spring.
Nadim Naaman said: “Nearly three years after writing the first song, we look forward to sharing Rumi’s creativity with the world, the journey has not been what we anticipated, but I am proud to have been able to create this remarkable piece of art despite the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic and working remotely across continents, and people from around the world have already lived through the subject matter of the artwork due to the pandemic, including self-discovery, thinking, and pursuit of achievement, and perhaps the messages of this piece of art are the best result, our team and crew have already lived through the subject matter of the work because of the pandemic, including self-discovery, reflection, and pursuit of achievement. We thank our entire team and magnificent cast for their support, patience and enthusiasm along the way.”
Ramin Karimloo (as Shams Tabrizi) and Nadim Naaman (Rumi) lead the concept album cast as the major superstars.
Casey Al-Shaqsy (as Kimya), Soophia Foroughi (Kara), Sharif Afifi (Sultan Valed), Ahmed Hamad (Aladdin), Irvine Iqbal (Husam) and Alim Jayda (Sayyed). are joining the team. Which includes Roshani Abbey, Amira Al Shanti, Eva-Theresa Chokarian, Maëva Feitelson, Sasha Ghoshal, James Hameed, Blythe Jandoo and Aliza Vakil.

الدوحة: أعلنت دانة الفردان، واحدة من أبرز الملحنين المعاصرين في الشرق الأوسط، عن إطلاق المسرحية الموسيقية “الرومي”، وهي ثاني مسرحية موسيقية كبيرة لها بالتعاون مع الملحن الشريك ونجم “وست إند” نديم نعمان، وبمشاركة نجم “وست إند” و”برودواي” رامين كاريملو.
تستوحى المسرحية من قصة الفيلسوف والشاعر جلال الدين الرومي من القرن الثالث عشر من تأليف إيفرين شارما، وتأتي بعد أول مسرحية موسيقية لدانة الفردان ونديم نعمان عام 2018 بعنوان “الأجنحة المتكسرة”، والتي عُرضت لأول مرة في و”ست إند” قبل جولة خاصة بالشرق الأوسط.
وقالت دانة الفردان: “مثلت كتابة المسرحية الموسيقية “الرومي” الرحلة النهائية في تفكيك المكونات الاجتماعية من تلك التي تشكل حقيقتنا الشخصية ووعينا، في ظل التجربة التي عشناها هذا العام ومع الأحداث غير المسبوقة، كانت كتابة “الرومي” فرصة لاكتشاف القوة الإبداعية الرائعة لجلال الدين الرومي. أنا واثقة من أننا سنقدم للجمهور تجربة مميزة لاكتشاف فن رائع”.
وسيتم إطلاق المسرحية لأول مرة عبر ألبوم كامل مع رامين كريملو، ونديم نعمان على رأس فريق “وست إند” الذي يتكون من فنانين من الشرق الأوسط، وشمال أفريقيا، وجنوب آسيا، فضلاً عن أوركسترا قطر الفلهارمونية.
وستضم المسرحية رامين كاريملو وهو ممثل ومغنٍ وملحن معروف. وقام جو دافيسون بتنسيق المسرحية الموسيقية، وإنتاج صوتي لنيكي دافيسون، وإشراف موسيقي مستوحى من الشرق الأوسط لمياس اليماني. وتم إنتاج الألبوم من قبل جو ونيكي دافيسون من “أوبورن جام ميوزيك”.
وتم تسجيل المسرحية في الدوحة ولندن خلال جائحة فيروس كوفيد-19 مما أضفى عليها طابعا مميزا يجمع بين أصالة الشرق الأوسط والتأثيرات الكلاسيكية والمسرح الموسيقي المعاصر، مع كلمات مشتقة من شعر جلال الدين الرومي، وسيتم إطلاق المسرحية على جميع المنصات الرقمية الرئيسية في وقت لاحق من هذا الربيع.
