EAA Organizes Global Event to Discuss Rebuilding, Shaping Education

Doha: To mark the International Day of Education, Education Above All Foundation (EAA) virtually brought together learners, education decision-makers and thought leaders from across the globe to discuss how education should be rebuilt and reshaped globally following the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the right to education of nearly 1.6 billion learners in over 190 countries impacted by the pandemic, the virtual event was titled “Education, a key to post COVID-19 pandemic recovery: How can we prevent a generational catastrophe?”

Ahead of the International Day of Education, EAA launched its #BuildBackEducation campaign under the umbrella of #UniteToProtect, to raise global awareness for the urgent need to build back education, as a central element to the global COVID-19 recovery process.

Covering key areas such as access, safety, financing, education technology and the digital divide, the campaign will run for a further three months to urge the international community to join efforts to #BuildBackEducation.

In her keynote speech, HE Assistant Foreign Minister and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lolwah Al Khater said: “2020 was an exceptional year for the international community, which saw progress impeded. Through the pandemic, almost 90 percent of students worldwide have been affected by school closures. It also exacerbated the inequalities we have been grappling with throughout the last decades.”

“Our discussion today should outline a new future for education. By exposing the brittle areas of the sector, we must aim to build back resilient education systems. We are here because we know there is no one-size-fits all solution. Together, we must work to secure a prosperous future for all students globally,” she added.

UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and Founder of The Barefoot Foundation Shakira said: “School is a place of safety and of nourishment for children. Even before COVID-19, the world was already in an education crisis. To now truly recover, we must promote accessible, quality, inclusive, and equitable education for all.”

Global Chief of Education at UNICEF Robert Jenkins noted: “The pandemic and subsequent disruptions to learning show how important schools are in a very holistic way. We need to remember that schools provide a wide range of services that must cover all children, and that we need to rebuild stronger.”

Karen Bryson MBE, British Actor and advocate for the rights of women and children, called on the international community to instill a sense of resilience, hope and pride to #BuildBackEducation: “For post-COVID recovery, education is a priority. As always, the most marginalized are already deprived of their right to education and are most affected. We must appeal directly to the imaginations of our youth. It can plant the seeds for the thirst for knowledge and growth. It enables a brighter future. It inspires hope.”

Sunday’s virtual event, that was held as part of the YouthTalkEd series, was concluded with a promise of a list of recommendations for young people across the world, to empower them to pursue education advocacy at a grassroots level.

الدوحة: جمعت /مؤسسة التعليم فوق الجميع/ صانعي القرار في مجال التعليم وقادة الفكر من مختلف أنحاء العالم في حدث افتراضي احتفالاً باليوم الدولي للتعليم، الذي يوافق 24 يناير من كل عام لمناقشة كيفية إعادة بناء التعليم وإعادة تشكيله على الصعيد العالمي في أعقاب التأثير المدمر لوباء /كوفيد-19/.

ناقش الحدث الافتراضي الذي أقيم تحت عنوان /التعليم، مفتاح للتعافي من جائحة كوفيد-19: كيف يمكننا منع وقوع كارثة على الأجيال القادمة؟/ الالتزام العالمي بإعادة بناء التعليم في ظل مبدأ “الحق في التعليم” الذي يتمتع به ما يقرب من 1.6 مليار طالب في أكثر من 190 بلداً تأثرت بهذا الوباء.

وخلال الأسبوع الذي سبق اليوم الدولي للتعليم، أطلقت مؤسسة التعليم فوق الجميع حملة #إعادة_بناء_التعليم -تحت مظلة حملة “معاً لحماية لتعليم”-، لزيادة الوعي العالمي بالحاجة الملحة إلى إعادة بناء التعليم، كعنصر أساسي في عملية التعافي من جائحة /كوفيد-19/.

وركزت الحملة التي تستمر ثلاثة أشهر على مجالات رئيسية مثل ضمان التعليم الجيد والشامل والمنصف للجميع، ودعم إعادة فتح المدارس بشكل آمن، واستئناف تقديم الخدمات الحيوية مثل الصحة والتغذية، وحماية وتعزيز وتوسيع تمويل التعليم، وتركيز التمويل على أكثر المجتمعات تهميشا، وتعزيز ودعم القوى العاملة في مجال التعليم، وأخيرا ضمان الاستخدام العادل والمتكافئ لتكنولوجيا التعليم، وسد الفجوة الرقمية، وحث المجتمع الدولي على الانضمام وتوحيد الجهود لحملة #إعادة_بناء_التعليم.

وخلال الفعالية قالت سعادة السيدة لولوة بنت راشد الخاطر، مساعد وزير الخارجية والمتحدث الرسمي باسم وزارة الخارجية، إن عام 2020 كان استثنائياً بالنسبة للمجتمع الدولي، الذي شهد عرقلة في عملية التقدم، فخلال فترة تلك الجائحة تأثر ما يقرب من 90 بالمئة من الطلاب في جميع أنحاء العالم بإغلاق المدارس، كما أدى إلى تفاقم عدم المساواة التي كان المجتمع الدولي يواجهها طوال العقود الماضية.

وأضافت، أن المناقشات حددت مستقبلا جديدا للتعليم، وذلك من خلال الكشف عن المناطق الهشة في هذا القطاع، مؤكدة أهمية العمل على ضمان مستقبل مزدهر لجميع الطلاب على مستوى العالم، وإعادة بناء أنظمة تعليمية مرنة، لأنه لا يوجد حل واحد يناسب الجميع.

من جانبها قالت السيدة شاكيرا مبارك ريبول سفيرة النوايا الحسنة لمنظمة الأمم المتحدة للطفولة ومؤسس منظمة /أقدام حافية/ أن المدرسة هي المكان الآمن للأطفال، وحتى قبل جائحة /كوفيد-19/ كان العالم يعاني بالفعل من أزمة في التعليم، ومن أجل التعافي الحقيقي الآن يتوجب تعزيز العملية التعليمية للجميع المتاحة النوعية والشاملة والمنصفة.

بدوره أشار السيد روبرت جينكينز المدير العالمي للتعليم في منظمة الأمم المتحدة للطفولة إلى أن الوباء وما تلاه من اضطرابات في التعليم أكد مدى أهمية المدارس بطريقة شاملة للغاية، لافتا إلى أهمية أن تقدم المدارس مجموعة واسعة من الخدمات التي تغطي جميع الأطفال، لإعادة البناء بشكل أقوى.

في السياق ذاته دعت السيدة كارين برايسون الممثلة البريطانية والمدافعة عن حقوق المرأة والطفل، المجتمع الدولي إلى غرس الشعور بالأمل من خلال إعادة بناء التعليم، مشيرة إلى أولوية الاهتمام بالتعليم من أجل التعافي بعد وباء /كوفيد-19 / خاصة وأن الأشخاص الأكثر تهميشًا بالفعل عادة يحرمون من حقهم في التعليم وهم الأكثر تضررا.

وفي ختام هذا الحدث الافتراضي والذي عقد كجزء من سلسلة المحادثات الشبابية، تم تقديم قائمة من التوصيات للشباب في جميع أنحاء العالم بغية تمكينهم من مواصلة الدعوة إلى التعليم على مستوى القاعدة الشعبية في بلدانهم.
