Qatar Celebrates World Wildlife Day

Doha: The State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, participated in the celebration of the World Wildlife Day, which is marked on March 3 each year, the day on which the agreement was adopted to regulate the trade in in endangered species of wild fauna and flora, with the aim of raising awareness about wild animals and plants.

This year’s celebration comes under the slogan ‘Forests and Livelihoods: Sustaining People and Planet’, which is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, especially Goals 13 and 15.

Within this framework, the State of Qatar has remarkable efforts in protecting vegetation cover through the enactment of legislation such as Law No. 32 of 1995 on Preventing Damage to Plant Ecology and Ecosystems, which supervises the plant environment, its components, the regulation of grazing in it, its use, investment, maintenance and preservation as one of the renewable natural resources.

The Protection and Wildlife Department has played an important role in developing the vegetation cover through the rehabilitation programs of the Qatari mainland since 2017 In the context of protecting the coastal vegetation cover, the State of Qatar issued decision 6 of 2007 declaring mangrove growing areas as nature reserves.

At the global level, the State of Qatar was one of the first countries to accede to the 1996 Convention on Biological Diversity, the 1999 Convention to Combat Desertification, the 2001 Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species, in addition to the Climate Change Convention.

الدوحة: شاركت دولة قطر ممثلة بوزارة البلدية والبيئة في الاحتفال باليوم العالمي للحياة البرية الذي يوافق 3 مارس من كل عام، وهو اليوم الذي تم فيه اعتماد اتفاقية تنظيم الاتجار بالكائنات الفطرية الحيوانية والنباتية المهددة بالانقراض، بغرض رفع مستوى الوعي بشأن الحيوانات والنباتات البرية.

وتأتي احتفالية هذا العام تحت شعار (الغابات وسبل العيش لاستدامة للناس والكواكب) وهو ما يتماشى مع أهداف الأمم المتحدة للتنمية المستدامة، وخاصة الهدفين 13 و15 منها.

وضمن هذا الإطار، فإن لدولة قطر جهود بارزة في حماية الغطاء النباتي من خلال سن التشريعات مثل القانون رقم 32 لسنة 1995 بشأن منع الأضرار بالبيئة النباتية، والذي يتبنى في مضمونه الإشراف على البيئة النباتية، ومكوناتها، وتنظيم الرعي فيها، واستخدامها، واستثمارها وصيانتها والمحافظة عليها كإحدى الثروات الطبيعية المتجددة.

وتقوم إدارة الحماية والحياة الفطرية بدور هام في تنمية الغطاء النباتي من خلال برامج تأهيل البر القطري منذ عام 2017، كما أنه وفي إطار حماية الغطاء النباتي الساحلي أصدرت دولة قطر القرار 6 لسنة 2007 بإعلان مناطق نمو أشجار القرم محميات طبيعية.

وعلى الصعيد العالمي لجهود الحفاظ والحماية البرية، كانت دولة قطر من الدول السباقة للانضمام لاتفاقية التنوع الحيوي 1996، واتفاقية مكافحة التصحر 1999، واتفاقية تنظيم الاتجار في الكائنات المهددة بالانقراض 2001، بالإضافة إلى اتفاقية تغير المناخ.

ومن جهود الدولة أيضا برامج حقلية جارية للحفاظ علي مجموعات أشجار البمبر والغاف بالبيئة القطرية.
