Why does vaccination exempt you from quarantine for only 3 months? Dr. Al-Maslamani Explains

Doha: Many questions are circulating in Qatari society and on social media about the possibility of taking a single dose of the coronavirus vaccine and being content with it as a means of immunity from the virus, These are the same questions that revolve around the reason for determining the effectiveness of the vaccine for 3 months only, which is the same period in which it is permitted to travel without a quarantine, although many studies have proven the effectiveness period of six months or a year…

So why did Qatar set 3 months as the maximum effectiveness and two doses of the vaccine were determined, even though other countries were satisfied with one dose, such as Britain and others?

Dr. Yousef Al- Maslamani, Medical Director of Hamad General Hospital, confirms that the refusal of people to take the second dose of the coronavirus vaccine is very rare in Qatar, pointing out that the sufficiency of the first dose of the vaccine is applied in only two countries in the world, however, this contradicts the conditions of all studies received from the manufacturers of the vaccine that confirms that the first dose gives an immunity of about 70%, but in Qatar, as part of our plan, we seek protection and immunity of up to 95%, so both doses must be taken regularly.

Al- Maslamani confirmed in statements to Qatar Tv via The Social Distance Program that Qatar has not recorded any death or intensive care entry cases due to vaccination, and that those who received the first dose only, do not meet the requirements to travel without a quarantine, in addition to the fact that airlines do not acknowledge one dose vaccination.

Extending immunity duration and exemption

Al- Maslamani also responded to the question that concerns a large number of members of the Qatari community about the reason for limiting the duration of the exemption from quarantine only to three months in Qatar, where he said that the approved duration of the effectiveness of the vaccine now is 3 months, however, the Scientific Committee in the Ministry of Public Health reviews all scientific and international research and hospital reports on the effective duration of the vaccine resulting from the quarantine period, which is 3 months, and indicated that if sufficient information is available from more than one reliable and scientific source, the period of effectiveness of the vaccine can be extended to 6 months or a year.

Al- Maslamani indicated that the vaccine in the world was launched about 3 months ago, but if the producing companies said that their study and experiments on volunteers proved a 6 months immunity, then the duration of the effectiveness could change from 3 months to six months or a year.

Al- Maslamani talked about the date and possibility of reaching the vaccination rate of 70% of the Qatari community, and that Qatar will receive more doses in the coming period because vaccine manufacturers have allowed more doses to be delivered, which will allow doses to reach the country faster and in larger quantities, which will contribute to increasing vaccination rates for all.

فلماذا وضعت قطر 3 أشهر كحد أقصى للفعالية ولماذا حددت جرعتين للقاح على الرغم من أن دول أخرى اكتفت بجرعة واحدة كبريطانيا وغيرها؟

الدكتور يوسف المسلماني المدير الطبي لمستشفى حمد العام يؤكد أن رفض الأشخاص لأخذ الجرعة الثانية من لقاح كورونا أمر نادر جداً في قطر، مشيراً إلى أن الاكتفاء بالجرعة الأولى من اللقاح يطبق في دولتين فقط في العالم، إلا أن هذا ينافي شروط كل الدراسات الواردة من الشركات المصنعة للعقار التي تؤكد بأن الجرعة الأولى تعطي حصانه بنسبة 70 % فقط من الإصابة بفيروس كورونا ولكننا في دولة قطر وضمن الخطة الموضوعة لدينا فإننا نسعى لحماية وحصانة تصل لـ 95 %، لذلك يجب أخذ الجرعتين بشكل منتظم.

وأكد المسلماني في تصريحات لتلفزيون قطر عبر برنامج المسافة الاجتماعية أن قطر لم تسجل أي حالة وفاة أو دخول إلى العناية المركزة بسبب التطعيم، وبين أن من يتلقى الجرعة الأولى فقط  لا تنطبق عليه تعليمات السفر بدون حجر، إضافة إلى أن شركات الطيران لا تعترف بالتطعيم بجرعة وأحدة فقط.

تمديد مدة الفعالية والأعفاء

المسلماني رد ايضاً على السؤال الذي يشغل عدد كبير من أفراد المجتمع القطري حول سبب تحديد مدة الإعفاء من الحجر ثلاثة أشهر فقط في قطر، حيث قال إن المدة المعتمدة لفعالية اللقاح الآن هي 3 أشهر ولكن اللجنة العلمية في وزارة الصحة تراجع كل الأبحاث العلمية والعالمية وتقارير المستشفيات حول مدة فعالية اللقاح المترتب عليه مدة الحجر وهي 3 أشهر، وأشار إلى أنه في حال  توفرت معلومات كافية من أكثر من مصدر موثوق وعلمي فيمكن تمديد مدة فعالية اللقاح 6 شهور أو سنة إذا توفرت المعلومات العلمية التي تثبت صحة المدة والفعالية.

وبين إن اللقاح الموجود في العالم تم طرحه منذ 3 أشهر تقريباً ولكن إذا الشركات المنتجة قالت أن دراستها وتجاربها على المتطوعين أثبتت مناعة لمدة 6 أشهر فيمكن ان تتغير مدة الفاعلية من 3 اشهر إلى ست أشهر أو عام. 

وحول موعد وإمكانية الوصول إلى نسبة تطعيم 70 % من المجتمع القطري‘ قال المسلماني إن قطر ستستقبل عدداً أكبر من الجرعات خلال الفترة القادمة وذلك لأن الشركات المصنعة للقاحات سمحت بتوريد المزيد من الجرعات الأمر الذي سيسمح بوصول الجرعات إلى الدولة بشكل اسرع وأكبر، مما يسهم في زيادة نسب التطعيم للجميع.
