Doha: Tea is one of the world’s most important and most consumed beverages after water, with the tea trade being the second-largest market in the hot beverage sector after coffee.

According to an Aljazeera.net report, global tea consumption in 2018 was about 273 billion litres (about 748 million litres per day) according to the latest Statistics of the International Tea Commission, and this year’s consumption is expected to rise to 289 billion litres (791 million liters) and to 297 billion litres (813 million litres) by the end 2021.

The total value of the world’s tea market in 2018 was over $52 billion and is expected to rise to about $81.6 billion by 2026.

As for the importance of tea in the Arab region, there are classifications that indicate the countries most widely used for it:

Kuwait and Saudi Arabia: 1.2 kg per capita in 2020
Morocco: 1 kg
Egypt: 0.9 kg
Oman: 0.8 kg
Tunisia: 0.7 kg
Qatar and Sudan: 0.6 kg
Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, Algeria and Bahrain: 0.5 kg
UAE: 0.4 kg

Tea originated in China, 2737 BC, where it was used for medical purposes and began to take root in their customs and traditions.

الدوحة: يعتبر الشاي من أهم المشروبات في العالم والأكثر استهلاكاً بعد الماء، حيث تعد تجارة الشاي ثاني أكبر سوق بالعالم في قطاع المشروبات الساخنة بعد القهوة.

ووفق تقرير للجزيرة.نت فإن الاستهلاك العالمي للشاي عام 2018 كان نحو 273 مليار لتر (قرابة 748 مليون لتر يوميا) حسب آخر إحصاءات اللجنة الدولية للشاي، ويتوقع أن يرتفع الاستهلاك العام الحالي إلى 289 مليار لتر (791 مليون لتر)، ثم إلى 297 مليار لتر (813 مليون لتر) بحلول نهاية عام 2021.

وبلغت القيمة الإجمالية لسوق الشاي في العالم عام 2018 ما يفوق 52 مليار دولار، ويتوقع أن يرتفع ليناهز عام 2026 نحو 81.6 مليار دولار.
