Ministry Issues Student Guide for University Stage

Doha: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education, represented by the Academic and Professional Counselling Department at the Educational Guidance Department issued the Student Guide, preparing students for the university stage and the labor market for the academic year 2020/2021.

The Student Guide aims to educate students and parents about the various opportunities available to students after high school, and to make them aware of the importance of early readiness for admission to various local and overseas universities and colleges, as well as the importance of standardized tests for undergraduate admissions.

It guides students to choose the right major, as it contains a set of steps and directions that help students in this regard. It also includes an overview of the various universities and colleges within the country and their disciplines, in addition to admission requirements for each university or college separately.

It also includes electronic links for international standard tests, which form an important part in the student’s documents for university admission, whether in local or foreign universities and colleges, as these tests predict students’ readiness to join the university, such as IELTS or TOEFL which test students’ English proficiency, SAT or ACT that test students’ skills in mathematics, science and critical reading.

According to the Student Guide, students need to complete these tests before the 12th grade, as they will be required to start applying to various universities.

The guide also includes advices for 10th grade students in choosing their educational path that suits their desires, abilities and future aspirations, and the role of parents in helping and shaping their children’s orientations towards choosing the educational and university path through a set of steps.

The last section of the guide includes the government scholarship program, which aims to provide specialized Qatari human cadres that meet the needs of the labor market, as the Ministry of Education and Higher Education undertakes the tasks to provide guidance and scholarships for students, while the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs prepares the general policy for scholarships and coordinates with government entities to prepare their scholarship programs according to their needs.

In addition, it touched on scholarships granted to international students, which are a form of financial support to help students continue university studies, offered by various universities around the world to international students.

As for students wishing to join the military sector, this is done through the Unified Standing Committee for the Selection of Candidates for Military Officers.

The Student Guide also includes some important websites such as those that contain an introduction to the various disciplines and professions and jobs that fall under them, websites for registration in various foreign universities, and websites for international tests, as well as search engines for various universities and colleges around the world.

ويهدف الدليل إلى توعية الطلبة وأولياء الأمور بمختلف الفرص المتاحة للطلبة بعد المرحلة الثانوية، وتوعيتهم كذلك بأهمية استعداد الأبناء المبكر للقبول في مختلف الجامعات والكليات سواء المحلية أو الخارجية، وأهمية الاختبارات المعيارية في القبول الجامعي.

ويتضمن الدليل الإرشادي كيفية اختيار الطالب للتخصص الجامعي المناسب، حيث احتوى الدليل على مجموعة من الخطوات والتوجيهات التي تساعد الطلبة في هذا الجانب، إضافة إلى نظرة عامة على مختلف الجامعات والكليات داخل الدولة وتخصصاتها، ونسب ومتطلبات القبول في كل جامعة أو كلية على حدة.

كما يتضمن الروابط الإلكترونية للاختبارات الدولية المعيارية والتي تشكل جزءا هاما في ملف الطالب للقبول الجامعي سواء في الجامعات والكليات المحلية أو الخارجية، حيث تقيس هذه الاختبارات مدى جاهزية طلبة المرحلة الثانوية للالتحاق بالجامعة، وهي نوعان من الاختبارات، منها ما يقيس مهارات الطالب في اللغة الإنجليزية (IELTS أو TOEFL) ومنها ما يقيس مهارات الطالب في الرياضيات والعلوم إضافة إلى القراءة النقدية (SAT أو ACT).

ونوه الدليل بأنه من الضروري أن ينهي الطالب تقديم هذه الاختبارات قبل دخوله للصف الثاني عشر، حيث أنه سيكون مطلوب منه في الثاني عشر البدء بالتقديم على مختلف الجامعات.

ويشمل كذلك الدليل الإرشادي على نصائح لطلبة الصف العاشر في اختيار المسار التعليمي الذي يتناسب مع رغباتهم وقدراتهم وطموحاتهم المستقبلية، ودور أولياء الأمور في مساعدة وتشكيل توجهات أبنائهم نحو اختيار المسار التعليمي والجامعي من خلال مجموعة من الخطوات.

ويضم القسم الأخير من الدليل برنامج الابتعاث الحكومي، الذي يهدف إلى توفير كوادر بشرية قطرية متخصصة تلبي احتياجات سوق العمل، حيث تتولى وزارة التعليم والتعليم العالي وفق خطة الابتعاث توجيه وإرشاد وابتعاث الطلبة، فيما تقوم وزارة التنمية الإدارية والعمل والشؤون الاجتماعية بإعداد السياسة العامة للابتعاث والتنسيق مع الجهات الحكومية لإعداد خططها للابتعاث في ضوء احتياجاتها.

بالإضافة إلى تطرق الدليل إلى المنح الدراسية التي تمنح للطلبة الدوليين وهي أحد أشكال الدعم المالي لمساعدة الطالب على مواصلة دراسته الجامعية تقدمها مختلف الجامعات حول العالم للطلبة الدوليين، وأنواع المنح الدراسية وكيفية ضمان حصول الطالب على المنحة الدراسية. أما بالنسبة للطلبة الراغبين في الالتحاق بالقطاع العسكري فيتم ذلك من خلال اللجنة الدائمة الموحدة لاختيار مرشحي ضباط الجهات العسكرية.

ويستعرض الدليل كذلك بعض المواقع الهامة مثل مواقع تحتوي على التعريف بمختلف التخصصات والمهن والوظائف التي تندرج تحتها، وتحتوي على أداة لقياس الميول وتحديد المجالات المناسبة للطالب، ومواقع للتسجيل في مختلف الجامعات الخارجية، ومواقع للتحضير للاختبارات الدولية، ومحركات بحث عن مختلف الجامعات والكليات حول العالم.
