Will “Clubhouse” become twitter’s next alternative?

Doha: Clubhouse has attracted thousands of Gulf citizens and millions around the world over the past few days. Will it be the Twitter alternative?

BBC explains that Clubhouse is a new app that is very similar to live podcast, allowing its users to share their thoughts and stories, and make friends in chat groups around the world, all using audio clips rather than text or video publications.

According to the BBC report, the app has seen a growing demand over the past few days, with the platform reportedly attracting 2 million users every week.

The audio-chat app also succeeded in attracting thousands of Twitter users in the Arab regions, especially in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, according to al-Qabas newspaper, where several hashtags have spread to the features of the new app.

“Will Kuwaitis abandon Twitter to Clubhouse?” the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Qabas published on Sunday.

Is Clubhouse elitist?

The idea of creating Clubhouse app crystallized in the minds of its founders Paul Davison and Rohan Seth, with the onset of the Coronavirus pandemic, and the tendency of many to work from home.

The first version of the app was launched in the spring of 2020 and seemed to rival the “Zoom” app that is dedicated to making video calls online, but ” Clubhouse ” app is based mainly on audio, combining live conversations, group interviews, and the experience of listening to podcasts, which also makes it different from other platforms such as Facebook, Messenger, or Snapchat.

The app is described as “elitist”, as it is governed by a single feature to accept subscribers, not to mention that its use in the beginning was limited to important personalities, such as celebrities, intellectuals and businessmen.

To use Clubhouse, you either get an invitation from an in-app member, or register via the official website and wait for your turn, and you must use your phone number to register.

The developer justified the use of that feature to accept subscribers as “preferring slow and thoughtful growth over the rapid increase in the user base”. But it seems that the in-app member invitation feature has contributed to the app’s increasing popularity, making it desirable.

Thus, Developers have announced their intention to open the app to everyone.

So far, the app is exclusively available for iOS users, and It is not yet known when it will be listed on Android.

How does Clubhouse work? What are its advantages?

Once you have an account, the app allows users to identify topics that are of interest to them, whether they are political, social, or recreational, the more information you provide about your hobbies, the more groups or virtual rooms the app advises you to follow, according to AFP.

These virtual rooms are similar to closed meetings or open seminars. You can create your own room, or join a public dialogue, and listen to it directly.

If you want to present your opinion, raise your hand, and it’s up to the moderators. They may allow you to speak, or present you as a keynote speaker, if you have interesting information.

You may also have the opportunity to discuss with important personalities. Interaction through the app is also largely based on the presence of characters with known and true identities.

One of the reasons for the popularity of the app is the margin of freedom it provides to its users to discuss different topics without censorship or restrictions unlike Facebook, which announced its intention to limit political content on its platform.

It is also the application’s advantage that voice posts are not saved, and disappear with the participant’s exit from the virtual seminar, which adds a kind of privacy.

While the public is celebrating the new platform with its ability to bypass the censorship and restrictions, press reports have reported that the Chinese authorities have successfully blocked it, raising many questions about its future.

The audio app attracted a number of Chinese users who touched on political topics forbidden in the public space.

The New York Times revealed that Facebook is seeking to break into the field of voice platforms, after the rocket demand for the ” Clubhouse ” app.

Twitter has already launched audio blogs technology, but it has not yet achieved the desired results.

Now the question is, will social media applications, in the coming days, witness a war to acquire audio-blogging?

الدوحة: اجتذب “كلوب هوس” الآلاف من المواطنين الخليجيين، والملايين حول العالم خلال الأيام القليلة الماضية..   فهل يصبح البديل القادم لموقع تويتر ؟

يوضح موقع “بي بي سي”، أن “كلوب هاوس” هو تطبيق جديد يشبه إلى حدّ كبير البث الصوتي المباشر، ويتيح لمستخدميه مشاركة أفكارهم وقصصهم، وبناء صداقات ضمن مجموعات للدردشة حول العالم، وكل ذلك يتم باستعمال مقاطع صوتية بدلا من المنشورات النصيّة أو المرئية.

ووفق تقرير للموقع، فقد شهد التطبيق في الأيام القليلة الماضية إقبالا متزايدا، إذ تشير الأنباء إلى أن المنصة تستقطب مليوني مستخدم كل أسبوع.

كما نجح التطبيق الصوتي في استقطاب الآلاف من روّاد مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي العرب تويتر، وبخاصة في السعودية والكويت وفق صحيفة “القبس”، حيث انتشرت عدّة وسوم تبحث في خصائص التطبيق الجديد.

وكتبت صحيفة القبس الكويتية، اليوم الأحد، “هل يهجر الكويتيون تويتر إلى كلوب هاوس؟”

هل هو نخبوي؟

تبلورت فكرة إنشاء تطبيق “كلوب هاوس” في ذهن مؤسسيه “بول دافيسون” و”روهان سيث”، مع بداية تفشّي جائحة كورونا ، واتجاه الكثيرين للعمل من المنزل.

تم طرح النسخة الأولى من التطبيق في ربيع 2020، وبدا كأنه ينافس تطبيق “زوم” المخصّص لإجراء مُكالمات الفيديو عبر الإنترنت، غير أن تطبيق “كلوب هاوس” يعتمد أساسا على الصوت، إذ يجمع بين المحادثات الحيّة ، والمقابلات الجماعيّة ، وتجربة الاستماع إلى بودكاست podcast، وهذا ما يجعله أيضا مختلفا عن باقي المنصات كفيسبوك ، ماسنجر ، أو سناب شات.

ويُوصف التطبيق بـ”النخبوي”، إذ إنه محكوم بخاصية واحدة لاستقبال المشتركين، ناهيك على أن استخدامه في البداية، اقتصر على الشخصيات المهمّة ، مثل المشاهير، والمثقفين ورجال الأعمال.

ولاستخدام “كلوب هاوس” يتعين عليك الحصول على دعوة من عضو داخل التطبيق، أو التسجيل عبر الموقع الرسمي وانتظار دورك، ويجب عليك أن تستخدم رقم هاتفك للتسجيل.

وبرّرت الشركة المطوّرة استخدام تلك الخاصية لقبول المشتركين بأنها “تفضل النمو البطيء والمدروس على الزيادة السريعة في قاعدة المستخدمين”.

ولكن يبدو أن خاصية الدعوات المسبقة ساهمت في زيادة شعبية التطبيق، وجعلته مرغوبا.

وقد أعلن القائمون على تطوير التطبيق، عزمهم فتح التطبيق أمام الجميع.

وحتى الآن يتوفر التطبيق بشكل حصري لمستخدمي أجهزة نظام iOS (آبل). ولا يعرف بعد موعد إدراجه على أندرويد.

كيف يعمل؟ وما هي مزاياه؟

وبمجرد الحصول على حساب، يسمح التطبيق للمستخدم بتحديد المواضيع التي تهمه سواء كانت سياسية، اجتماعية، أو ترفيهية، كلما قدمت معلومات عن هواياتك، كلما زادت المجموعات أو الغرف الافتراضية التي ينصحك التطبيق بمتابعتها، وفق وكالة الأنباء الفرنسية.

وتشبه تلك الغرف الافتراضية الاجتماعات المغلقة أو الندوات المفتوحة. ويمكنك إنشاء غرفتك الخاصة ، أو الانضمام إلى حوار عام ، والاستماع إليه مباشرة.

وإذا أردت عرض رأيك، فارفع يدك، والأمر متروك للمشرفين على النقاش. فقد يسمحون لك بالحديث ، أو يقدمونك كمتحدث رئيسي، في حال كانت لديك معلومات مثيرة.

وقد تحظى أيضا بفرصة لمناقشة شخصيات هامة. كما يقوم التفاعل عبر التطبيق بشكل كبير على وجود شخصيات بهويات معروفة وحقيقية.

ومن أسباب رواج التطبيق هو هامش الحرية التي يوفرها لمستخدميها لنقاش مواضيع مختلفة دون رقابة أو قيود خلافا لفيسبوك الذي أعلن عن نيته الحد من المحتوى السياسي على منصته.

ومن مزايا التطبيق أيضا أن المشاركات الصوتية لا تحفظ، وتختفي بخروج المشارك من الندوة الافتراضية ، ما يضفي نوعا من الخصوصية.

وبينما يحتفي المنبهرون بالمنصة الجديدة بقدرتها على تجاوز مقص الرقيب، أفادت تقارير صحفية بنجاح السلطات الصينية في حجبها، مما طرح أسئلة عديدة حول مستقبلها.

وكان التطبيق الصوتي جذب أعدادا من المستخدمين الصينين ممن تطرقوا إلى مواضيع سياسية ممنوع في الفضاء العام.

وكشفت صحيفة “نيويورك تايمز” الأميركية، أن شركة “فيسبوك” تسعى إلى اقتحام مجال المنصات الصوتية، بعد الإقبال الصاروخي على تطبيق “كلوب هاوس”.

وسبق أن أطلق تويتر تقنية التدوينات الصوتية، إلا أنه لم يحقق النتائج المرجوة لحد الآن.

فهل تشهد تطبيقات التواصل الاجتماعي، في قادم الأيام، حربا للاستحواذ على خاصية التدوين الصوتي؟
