Astronomers confirm solar system’s most distant known object

WASHINGTON: Astronomers at the University of Hawaii in the United States have identified the most distant space object ever found in our solar system, which has been given the nickname “Farfarout”, and is classified as a planetoid.

Farfarout is located 12.4 billion miles from the Sun, 93 million miles from Earth, and moves near the Sun and Earth in its orbit for 1,000 years.

Astronomers previously believed that Pluto was the furthest object orbiting the Sun, about 3.7 billion miles away, but with technological advances, scientists had a deeper view of space.

“Farfarout’s orbital dynamics can help us understand how Neptune is formed and evolved, where Farfarout may have been thrown into the outer solar system by getting close to Neptune in the distant past, and it’s likely to interact with Neptune again because its orbits continue to intersect,” said researcher David Thulin of the University of Hawaii.

Farfarout’s orbital time is about 1,000 years old, which means researchers have to study it for years to determine its course, the planetoid will remain under observation, and in the future it will be given another official name.

وكان يعتقد علماء الفلك في السابق أن كوكب (بلوتو) هو أبعد جسم يدور حول الشمس، حيث يبعد حوالي 3.7 مليار ميل، لكن مع التقدم التكنولوجي أصبح للعلماء نظرة أعمق في الفضاء.

وقال الباحث ديفيد ثولين من جامعة /هاواي/ “يمكن أن تساعدنا الديناميكيات المدارية لكوكب (Farfarout) في فهم كيفية تشكل (نبتون) وتطوره، حيث من المحتمل أن يكون (Farfarout) أُلقي في النظام الشمسي الخارجي من خلال الاقتراب الشديد من (نبتون) في الماضي البعيد، ومن المحتمل أن يتفاعل مع (نبتون) مرة أخرى لأن مداراته تستمر في التقاطع”.

وقد بلغ الوقت المداري لكوكب (Farfarout) نحو ألف عام، ما يعني أنه على الباحثين دراسته لسنوات لتحديد مساره، وسيظل تحت المراقبة، وسيُمنح الكوكب في المستقبل اسما رسمياً آخر.
