Qatar International Rally opens its first round

Doha: Yesterday’s evening, the Qatar International Rally, which constitutes the opening round of the forty-first edition of the Middle East Rally Championship for the 2021 season, opened with a simplified ceremony, with the launch of the Prologue, which reached a distance of 4.4 km, and was held in the Cultural Village / Katara /. The stage’s competitions were held in a magical atmosphere overshadowed by the competition between two cars on two parallel tracks, and this stage was specially designed by the Qatar Automobile and Motorcycle Federation to add more show and excitement and attract fans of speed.

The go-ahead was given to the participating cars, by Mr. Abdulrazaq Al Kuwari, Secretary of the Qatar Automobile and Motorcycle Federation, and Mr. Amr Al Hamad, Executive Director, in a beautiful start from the Katara area, one of Qatar’s cultural lighthouses. British driver Kris Meeke, accompanied by navigator Sebastian Marshall, on board a “Skoda Fabia” car, managed to win first place after overcoming the Prologue distance, recording the fastest time of 4.14.3 minutes, which will make him start first in the rally stages today / Saturday /.

Meeke outperformed his nearest competitor, Qatari driver Nasser Al-Attiyah, accompanied by French navigator Matthew Bommel, in a Volkswagen Polo GTI, who came second after recording a time of 4.20.9 minutes, 7.7 seconds ahead of the other Qatari driver Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari, accompanied by the Irish navigator James Fulton in a third-placed Skoda Fabia Evo with a time of 4.28.6 minutes.

Qatari driver Khaled Al-Suwaidi, accompanied by Portuguese navigator Hugo Magalhães, on board a “Skoda Fabia Evo X” car, finished fourth with a time of 4.32.8 minutes, while the Omani driver, Abdullah Al Rawahi, accompanied by the Jordanian navigator Ata Hammoud, in a Ford Fiesta, came in fifth place with a time of 4.35.8 minutes, while the Kuwaiti driver Mishary Al Dhafiri, accompanied by Qatari navigator Nasser Al Kuwari, came in a Mitsubishi Evo X car” in sixth place with a time of 4.51.2 minutes.

The Qatari driver, Sheikh Suhaim Al-Thani, accompanied by his navigator and his compatriot Hamad Al-Yafei, in a “Skoda Fabia Evo” car, came in seventh place with a time of 4.53.2 minutes, in front of the Lebanese driver Henry Kaie, accompanied by his navigator and his compatriot, Carlos Hanna, in a “Skoda Fabia” car, who came in Eighth, with a time of 4.53.3 minutes.

Omani driver Zakaria Al Ameri, accompanied by his navigator and resident Muhammad Al Mazroui, on board a “Mitsubishi Evo X” car, and the Lebanese Ahmed Khaled, accompanied by Jordanian navigator Musa Djiriyan Ali on board a “Lancer Evo X” car, completed the list of the top ten, where the first came ninth at a time of 4.58.5 minutes, and the latter came tenth with a time of 5.00.3 minutes.

Qatari driver Nasser Saleh Al-Attiyah is striving, when he competes in the Qatar Rally, the inaugural round of the Middle East Championship, to achieve his fifteenth title in his country’s rally, and to raise the number of his victories to 76 in the Middle East Rally Championship, as he seeks to win his seventeenth title and enhance his record for the number of times winning the Middle East championship.

The rally is held this year according to the conditions of precautionary measures and the global protocol followed in anticipation of the repercussions of the emerging coronavirus (Covid-19), while the curators of the Qatar Automobile and Motorcycle Federation worked to provide special stages of speed full of excitement and suspense for the crews participating in the rally.

Before the start of the Prologue in the evening, the teams participating in the rally this morning at the Lusail Sports Center passed the technical examination for conformity of cars to the laws in force by the FIA, where the participants in the International Rally joined a group of drivers who will participate on board cars Buggy is classified in the “T3” category, which is the category designated for light, prototype cars, which laws allow it to compete in the “FIA” World of Sahara Cross Country Rallies.

The Qatari driver Khaled Al-Mohannadi, accompanied by the Russian navigator Kirill Chopin, had to enter the examination with his old cars, which he won the Qatar Baha Championship title last month in, due to the delay in the arrival of his new cars until Saturday, but did not exceed the technical examination to be excluded from the Middle East Rally and turned to competition only the local rally held in conjunction with the inaugural round of the Middle East Championship.

The actual competitions of the rally will start today, where the teams must pass two stages that will be repeated twice north of Doha, with the first passing in the second stage of Arada (20.13 km), which starts at 10.25 am local time, followed by the third stage of Al-Thakhira (20.34 km) at exactly 11.00 am.

After the teams return to Lusail Sports Center to undergo maintenance and repair works within a period of 30 minutes, they return again to compete in the fourth and fifth stages in a second pass at 13:10 pm and 13.45 pm, respectively.

Many of the most prominent names in the Middle Eastern rally world will participate in the rally, the opening round of the Middle Eastern championship, with 19 teams representing 12 countries that are next to Qatar: Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Jordan, Lebanon, Britain, Russia, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, and France.

ومنح شارة الانطلاق للسيارات المشاركة، كل من السيد عبدالرزاق الكواري أمين سر الاتحاد القطري للسيارات والدراجات النارية، والسيد عمرو الحمد المدير التنفيذي، في انطلاقة جميلة من منطقة /كتارا/ إحدى منارات قطر الثقافية.

وتمكن السائق البريطاني كريس ميك بصحبة ملاحه ومواطنه سيباستيان مارشال على متن سيارة “سكودا فابيا” من الفوز بالمركز الأول بعد أن اجتاز مسافة المرحلة الاستعراضية، مسجلا أسرع توقيت قدره 4:14.3 دقائق، الأمر الذي سيجعله ينطلق أولا في مراحل الرالي اليوم /السبت/.

وتفوق ميك بفارق 5.6 ثوان عن أقرب منافسيه السائق القطري ناصر العطية برفقة ملاحه الفرنسي ماثيو بوميل على متن سيارة “فولكس فاجن بولو GTI”، الذي حل ثانيا بعدما سجل زمنا قدره 4.20.9 دقائق، وبفارق 7.7 ثوان عن السائق القطري الآخر عبدالعزيز الكواري بصحبة ملاحه الإيرلندي جيمس فولتون على متن سيارة “سكودا فابيا ايفو” صاحب المركز الثالث بزمن قدره 4.28.6 دقائق.

واحتل السائق القطري خالد السويدي بصحبة ملاحه البرتغالي هوجو ماجالهايس على متن سيارة “سكودا فابيا ايفو إكس” المركز الرابع بزمن قدره

4.32.8 دقائق، فيما جاء السائق العماني عبدالله الرواحي بصحبة ملاحه الأردني عطا حمود على متن سيارة “فورد فييستا” في المركز الخامس بزمن قدره 4.35.8 دقائق، بينما حل السائق الكويتي مشاري الظفيري بصحبة ملاحه القطري ناصر الكواري على متن سيارة “ميتسوبيشي ايفو إكس” في المركز السادس بزمن قدره 4.51.2 دقائق.

وجاء السائق القطري الشيخ سحيم آل ثاني بصحبة ملاحه ومواطنه حمد اليافعي على متن سيارة “سكودا فابيا ايفو” في المركز السابع بزمن قدره 4.53.2 دقائق، وذلك أمام السائق اللبناني هنري قاعي بصحبة ملاحه ومواطنه كارلوس حنا على متن سيارة “سكودا فابيا” الذي جاء ثامنا بزمن قدره 4.53.3 دقائق.

وأكمل السائقان العماني زكريا العامري بصحبة ملاحه ومواطنه محمد المزروعي على متن سيارة “ميتسوبيشي ايفو إكس” واللبناني أحمد خالد بصحبة ملاحه الأردني موسى دجيريانعلى متن سيارة “لانسر إيفو إكس” قائمة المراكز العشرة الأولى، حيث جاء الأول تاسعا بزمن قدره 4.58.5 دقائق، والثاني عاشرا بزمن قدره 5.00.3 دقائق.

ويسعى السائق القطري ناصر صالح العطية، عندما يخوض غمار منافسات رالي قطر الجولة الافتتاحية من بطولة الشرق الأوسط، إلى لتحقيق لقبه الخامس عشر في رالي بلاده، ورفع عدد انتصاراته إلى 76 فوزا في بطولة الشرق الأوسط للراليات، والذي يسعى لحصد لقبه السابع عشر، وتعزيز رقمه القياسي في عدد مرات الفوز بلقب البطولة الشرق أوسطية.

ويقام الرالي هذا العام وفق شروط الاجراءات الاحترازية والبروتوكول العالمي المتبع تحسبا من تداعيات فيروس كورونا المستجد (كوفيد-19)، في حين عمل القيمون في الاتحاد القطري للسيارات والدراجات النارية على توفير مراحل خاصة بالسرعة مليئة بالإثارة والتشويق للأطقم المشاركة في الرالي.

وقبل انطلاق المرحلة الاستعراضية في الفترة المسائية، اجتازت الفرق المشاركة في الرالي صباح اليوم في مركز لوسيل الرياضي، الفحص الفني لمطابقة السيارات للقوانين المرعية الاجراء المتبعة من قبل الاتحاد الدولي للسيارات “فيا”، حيث انضم للمشاركين في الرالي الدولي مجموعة من السائقين سيشاركون على متن سيارات باجي مصنفة ضمن فئة الـ “تي3” وهي الفئة المخصصة للسيارات الخفيفة النموذجية والتي تسمح لها القوانين بخوض غمار منافسات “فيا” كأس العالم للراليات الصحراوية الكروس كاونتري.

واضطر السائق القطري خالد المهندي بصحبة ملاحه الروسي كيريل شوبين، دخول الفحص بسياراته القديمة الذي فاز بها بلقب بطولة قطر للباها الشهر الماضي، نظرا لتأخر وصول سياراته الجديدة حتى اليوم، لكنها لم تتجاوز الفحص الفني ليتم استبعاده من الرالي الشرق أوسطي ويتحول للمنافسة فقط في الرالي المحلي الذي يقام بالتزامن مع الجولة الافتتاحية من بطولة الشرق الأوسط.

وستنطلق المنافسات الفعلية للرالي اليوم /السبت/، حيث يتوجب على الفرق اجتياز مرحلتين تعاد مرتين شمال الدوحة، مع مرور أول في المرحلة الثانية عريدة (20.13 كلم) التي تنطلق في تمام الساعة 10.25 صباحا بالتوقيت المحلي وتليها المرحلة الثالثة الذخيرة (20.34 كلم) في تمام الساعة 11.00 صباحا.

وبعد عودة الفرق إلى مركز لوسيل الرياضي للخضوع للصيانة واصلاح الاعطال في فترة تمتد 30 دقيقة، تعود مجددا لخوض المرحلتين الرابعة والخامسة في مرور ثان عند الساعة 13.10 ظهرا و 13.45 ظهرا تباعا.

ويشارك في الرالي الجولة الافتتاحية من البطولة الشرق أوسطية العديد من أبرز الاسماء في عالم الراليات، حيث يشارك 19 فريقا يمثلون 12 دولة هي بجانب قطر: الكويت، السعودية، عمان، الأردن، لبنان، بريطانيا، روسيا،إسبانيا، البرتغال، إيرلندا، وفرنسا.
