Asia’s biggest drug dealer who controls a $70 billion market arrested

Doha: Dutch police have arrested a man believed to be the head of one of the world’s largest drug cartels, based on an arrest warrant issued by Australia.
Tse Chi Lop, who was born in China and holds Canadian citizenship, Head of The Company, which dominates a $70 billion illicit drug market across Asia.
According to the BBC, Tse Chi Lop is one of the most wanted men in the world, and the Dutch authorities eventually managed to arrest him at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport on Friday, and Australia will now seek his deportation for trial.
The Australian Federal Police accuses the organization, also known as Sam Gor, of smuggling about 70 per cent of the illicit drugs entering the country.
Chi Lop, 56, is always compared to Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmán, because of his alleged activism.
He was reportedly being pursued by Australian police for more than 10 years before he was arrested on Friday as he was about to board a plane to Canada.
The police issued a statement without explicitly naming Chi Lop, but noted that the arrest warrant had been issued in 2019, and Dutch police moved to carry it out on the advice of Interpol.
“He was already on the wanted list and was arrested on the basis of intelligence we received,” a Dutch police spokesman said of Friday’s arrest.
Reuters published a special investigation into Chi Lop’s activity in 2019, describing him as “Asia’s most wanted man.”
The news agency quoted UN estimates as saying that Sam Gor’s revenue from sales of methamphetamine alone could have reached $17 billion in 2018.
Australia launched a manhunt for Chi Lop under the name “Operation Kungur”, involving 20 security agencies from all continents, under the command of the Australian Federal Police, Reuters reported.
There have been reports that the alleged drug emperor in Asia has been moving between Macao, Hong Kong and Taiwan in recent years.
He was previously arrested and imprisoned for nine years for drug trafficking in the United States during the 1990s.
Australian media described his arrest as the “most important” for the country’s federal police in two decades.

وتتهم الشرطة الفيدرالية الأسترالية المنظمة التي يديرها تشي لوب، والمعروفة أيضا بـ”سام غور”، بالمسؤولية عن تهريب حوالي 70 بالمئة من المخدرات غير المشروعة التي تدخل البلاد.
ويتم دائما مقارنة تشي لوب 56 عاما، بزعيم المخدرات المكسيكي خواكين “إل تشابو” جوزمان، بسبب حجم نشاطه المزعوم.
وبحسب التقارير فقد كانت الشرطة الأسترالية تتعقبه لأكثر من 10 سنوات قبل أن يتم القبض عليه يوم الجمعة بينما كان على وشك ركوب طائرة متجهة إلى كندا.
وأصدرت الشرطة بيانا دون ذكر اسم تشي لوب صراحة، لكنها أشارت إلى أن مذكرة التوقيف صدرت في عام 2019، وتحركت الشرطة الهولندية لتنفيذها بناء على إشعار من الشرطة الدولية الإنتربول.
وقال متحدث باسم الشرطة الهولندية عن عملية الاعتقال يوم الجمعة “لقد كان بالفعل على قائمة المطلوبين واعتقل بناء على معلومات استخبارية تلقيناها”.
ونشرت وكالة رويترز تحقيقا خاصا عن نشاط تشي لوب في عام 2019، واصفة إياه بأنه “أبرز المطلوبين في آسيا”.
ونقلت وكالة الأنباء عن تقديرات الأمم المتحدة أن إيرادات منظمة “سام غور” التي يديرها من مبيعات مخدرات الميثامفيتامين وحدها ربما بلغت 17 مليار دولار في عام 2018.
وأطلقت أستراليا عملية لملاحقة تشي لوب تحت اسم ” عملية الكونغر”، شاركت فيها 20 وكالة أمنية من جميع قارات العالم، تحت قيادة الشرطة الفيدرالية الأسترالية، بحسب رويترز.
وتحدثت تقارير عن أن إمبراطور المخدرات المزعوم في آسيا كان يتنقل ما بين ماكاو وهونغ كونغ وتايوان في السنوات الأخيرة.
وسبق اعتقاله وسجنه تسع سنوات بتهمة تهريب المخدرات في الولايات المتحدة خلال فترة التسعينيات.
ووصفت وسائل إعلام أسترالية عملية اعتقاله بأنها “الأهم” للشرطة الفيدرالية في البلاد منذ عقدين.
