Fire Station Showcases Participants’ Work in AIR5

Doha: The Fire Station: Artist in Residence today unveils Grey Times, an exhibition encompassing the works of artists who participated in the fifth edition of its annual Artist in Residence Programme (AIR5), in the presence of HE Chairperson of Qatar Museums Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani and several artists.

The exhibition marks the end of the Artist in Residence program and is centered on the current context of the global outbreak of COVID-19, characterized by uncertainty and unprecedented challenges.

The initial plan for this year’s Artist in Residence Program curated by Dr. Bahaa Abudaya and Saida Ali Al-Khulaifi was for artists to engage with the relationship between the visual arts and literature. However, the pandemic meant artists were unable to embark on creative exploration at the Fire Station’s studios but rather had to carry out their respective conceptual journeys in the confines of their homes.

Commenting on the exhibition, Dr. Abudaya, said: “With the current situation, people have been forced to make drastic changes to their lifestyle and livelihood. Within this challenging context, we have invited artists to embark on a journey of self-exploration and examine the relationship they have with their immediate surroundings and the external world during a global pandemic.”

The exhibition will include artworks created during the residency, during which the artists take their passion to the next level by moving into one of the available studios, collaborating with fellow creators, and developing their own artistic techniques. The artists showcasing their works as part of the 2020-2021 Artist in Residence Programme include: Aisha Al Muhannadi, Ameera Al Aji, Ebtesam Al Hothi, Hadeer Omar, Haytham Sharrouf, Jaser Alagha, Latifa Al Kuwari, Majdulin Nasrallah, Mariam Rafehi, Maryam Al Maadhadi, Mashael Al Hejazi, Maysaa Almumin, Muna Al Bader, Naila Al-Thani, Noor Yousef, Suzana Jouma, Hind Al Saad and Ameena Al Yousef.

Through the artworks created during the participating artists’ residency, Grey Times artists sought to answer the questions, “Who am I?” and “Who are they?” The works reflect the evolution and adaptability of the creative process in relation to limitations imposed by the pandemic i.e., the lack of studio space and social engagement, limited creative materials, execution, and installation.

AIR5 is an annual initiative, established in 2015, that nurtures creative talent from across the country and worldwide.

Qatar Museums has implemented protocols in accordance with recommendations from Qatar’s Health Protection & Communicable Disease Control office of the Ministry of Public Health. In keeping with the guidelines set by the Ministry of Public Health, a limited number of visitors and staff will be allowed in the Fire Station at any given time.

الدوحة: افتتح مطافئ: مقر الفنانين، معرض “زمن رمادي” الذي يضم أعمال المشاركين في النسخة الخامسة من برنامج إقامة الفنانين السنوي وذلك بحضور سعادة الشيخة المياسة بنت حمد آل ثاني رئيس مجلس أمناء متاحف قطر وعدد من الفنانين والمهتمين.

ويمثل المعرض اختتام النسخة الخامسة من البرنامج الذي تأسس عام 2015 لرعاية المواهب الإبداعية من قطر ومن جميع أنحاء العالم، ويركز على الوضع الحالي من ضبابية المشهد والتحديات غير المسبوقة التي سببها تفشي فيروس /كوفيد-19 / على مستوى العالم.

وكانت الخطة الأولية لبرنامج إقامة الفنانين لهذا العام أن يتفاعل الفنانون مع العلاقة بين الفنون البصرية والأدبيات، إلا أن تفشي الوباء حال دون الاستكشاف الإبداعي للفنانين في استوديوهات مطافئ، واضطرارهم إلى القيام بأعمالهم المفاهيمية داخل منازلهم.

ويتضمن المعرض، الذي فتح أبوابه يوم الأمس للجمهور ويستمر حتى 24 يوليو المقبل، أعمالا فنية تم تنفيذها خلال فترة الإقامة الفنية، حيث ارتقى الفنانون خلالها بشغفهم إلى مستويات أعلى عبر الانتقال إلى أحد الأستوديوهات المتاحة، والتعاون مع زملائهم المبدعين، وتطوير تقنياتهم الفنية الخاصة.. ومن بين الفنانين الذين تعرض أعمالهم ضمن برنامج إقامة الفنانين 2020- 2021: عائشة المهندي، أميرة العجي، ابتسام الحوثي، هدير عمر، هيثم شروف، جاسر الأغا، لطيفة الكواري، مجدولين نصر الله، مريم رفاعي، مريم المعضادي، مشاعل الحجازي، ميساء المؤمن، منى البدر، نائلة آل ثاني، نور يوسف، سوزانا جمعة، هند آل سعد، وأمينة اليوسف.

ومن خلال أعمالهم الفنية التي أبدعوها أثناء مشاركتهم في إقامة الفنانين، سعى فنانو “زمن رمادي” للإجابة عن السؤالين “من أنا؟” و”من هم؟” حيث تعكس الأعمال تطور العملية الإبداعية وقدرتها على التكيف فيما يتعلق بالقيود التي تفرضها الجائحة، على غرار نقص مساحة الاستوديو، والمشاركة الاجتماعية، والمواد الإبداعية المحدودة، والتنفيذ، والتركيب.

وتعليقا على المعرض، قال الدكتور بهاء أبو دية منسق برنامج إقامة الفنانين: “في ظل الوضع الحالي، اضطر الناس إلى إجراء تغييرات جذرية على أسلوب حياتهم ومعيشتهم. وفي هذا السياق المفعم بالتحديات، قمنا بدعوة الفنانين للشروع في رحلة استكشاف الذات، وفحص العلاقة التي تربطهم بمحيطهم المباشر والعالم الخارجي خلال هذه الجائحة العالمية.”

وتنفذ متاحف قطر بروتوكولات الصحة والسلامة وفقا لتوصيات إدارة الحماية الصحية ومكافحة الأمراض المعدية بوزارة الصحة العامة في قطر. وتماشيا مع الإرشادات التي وضعتها وزارة الصحة العامة، يتم السماح لعدد محدود من الزوار والموظفين بالتواجد معا في وقت واحد في مطافئ.
