WHO Opposes Requesting Vaccination Certificate as a Condition for International Travel

Geneva: WHO Emergency Committee has announced its opposition to the application of vaccination certificates against the new coronavirus as a condition for allowing any country access to international travellers.

“There are still many key things that are not known about the effectiveness of vaccines in reducing Virus transmission, and vaccines are currently available in limited quantities,” the committee said in its recommendations, adding that proof of vaccination should not exclude other preventive health measures.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Gipresos yesterday stressed the importance of starting vaccination campaigns in all countries of the world within 100 days.

“I want to see vaccination campaigns started in every country within the next 100 days so that health care workers and those at greater risk can be protected in the first place,” he said at a press conference in Geneva.

In another context, WHO stated that Coronavirus mutations need new methods to confront them,”adding that ” coronavirus mutation requires rapid and intensive research”.

The number of Cases of Covid-19 in Europe yesterday exceeded 30 million as the WHO Emergency Committee prepares to make recommendations on the emergence of more severely infecting versions of the new coronavirus, which could raise fears of a larger pandemic. In Britain, the authorities decided to send hundreds of soldiers to London hospitals to support under-equipped intensive care units, which include medical staff, health unit staff and hospitals, as the number of people infected with Corona increases. According to The Independent, 200 medical specialists will be sent to the intensive care units of the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, east London, and the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead, north London.

A total of 150 soldiers will be recruited in non-medical roles to help nurses and doctors care for patients, a move following a request for help from the UK’s National Health Service.

Despite the expected slowdown in late January and early February with the production of the Pfizer/BioNTech alliance vaccine against Covid-19, Pfizer confirmed that the doses expected by the EU in the first quarter will be delivered as planned, as announced yesterday by European Commission President Ursula von der Laine.

In a joint letter yesterday, health ministers from six EU countries expressed “serious concern” over the delay in delivering the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine.

جنيف: أعلنت لجنة الطوارئ في منظمة الصحة العالمية معارضتها «حاليًا» طلب شهادات تطعيم ضدّ فيروس كورونا المستجد كشرط لإتاحة دخول أي دولة أمام المسافرين الدوليين.

وقالت اللجنة في توصيات «ما زال ثمة الكثير من الأمور الرئيسية غير المعروفة فيما يتعلق بفاعلية اللقاحات على صعيد الحد من انتقال «الفيروس»، كما أنّ اللقاحات متوفرة «حاليًا» بكميات محدودة»، مضيفة: إنّ إثبات التلقيح يجب ألا يستثني تدابير صحية وقائية أخرى.

في سياق متصل، شدد مدير عام منظمة الصحة العالمية تيدروس أدهانوم غيبريسوس أمس على أهمية بدء حملات التطعيم في دول العالم كلّها في غضون مئة يوم.

وقال في مؤتمر صحفي في جنيف «أريد أن أرى حملات التطعيم وقد بدأت في كل دولة في غضون الأيام المئة المقبلة حتى تتسنى حماية العاملين في مجال الرعاية الصحية والمعرضين لمخاطر أكبر في المقام الأول».

في سياق آخر، ذكرت منظمة الصحة العالمية أن «تحور فيروس كورونا يفرض علينا أساليب جديدة لمواجهته»، مضيفةً أن «تحور فيروس كورونا يتطلب أبحاثًا سريعة ومكثفة».

وستوسع فرنسا اليوم نطاق حظر التجول ليشمل كامل أراضيها وستشترط على الوافدين من بلد من خارج الاتحاد الأوروبي إبراز فحص يثبت عدم إصابتهم بكوفيد-19 لدى وصولهم.

وفي بريطانيا، قررت السلطات إرسال مئات الجنود إلى مستشفيات لندن لدعم وحدات العناية المركزة التي تعاني من نقص في خط الدفاع الأول، الذي يشمل الكوادر الطبية والعاملين في الوحدات الصحية والمستشفيات، مع ارتفاع عدد المصابين بـ»كورونا». ووفق صحيفة «إندبندنت»، سيتم إرسال 200 عسكري متخصص بالطب إلى وحدات العناية المركزة بمستشفى لندن الملكي في وايت تشابل شرق لندن والمستشفى الملكي المجاني في هامبستيد شمال لندن.

وعلى رغم التباطؤ المنتظر أواخر يناير ومطلع فبراير بإنتاج لقاح تحالف فايزر/‏بيونتيك المضاد لفيروس كورونا، فإن فايزر أكدت أن الجرعات التي كان ينتظرها الاتحاد الأوروبي في الفصل الأول ستسلم كما هو مقرر، كما أعلنت، أمس، رئيسة المفوضية الأوروبية أورسولا فون دير لايين.

وأعرب وزراء الصحة من ست دول بالاتحاد الأوروبي في رسالة مشتركة، أمس، عن «قلقهم الشديد» بشأن التأخير في تسليم لقاح فايزر/‏بيونتيك.
