NASA publishes pictures of the largest valley on Mars

Washington: NASA’s probe on Mars has captured amazing new images of the largest valley in our solar system.
The Valles Marineris is a system of huge canyons that spread 2,500 miles along the equator of the Red Planet, about 10 times the length of the Grand Canyon on Earth, and three times deeper than it.
The University of Arizona researchers wanted to explore it further, so they used a high-resolution camera called HiRISE, on board NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, and have taken pictures of the valley since 2006 to try to get a look at its strange features and get an insight into how it formed.
The Grand Canyon Earth System is said to have formed over billions of years of moving fast-moving water, and on the other hand, the formation of Valles Marineris may have been due to an enormous amount of volcanic activity.
One theory says that the crust of Mars may have expanded and opened up when a large group of volcanoes were first forming, and ancient rivers, landslides and magma may have caused further erosion, while scientists will use detailed images to try to obtain more answers.

وأخذوا صورًا للوادي منذ عام 2006 لمحاولة إلقاء نظرة على ميزاته الغريبة، والحصول على نظرة ثاقبة حول كيفية تشكله. ويقال إن نظام Grand Canyon الأرضي تشكّل عبر مليارات السنين من تحرك المياه سريعة الحركة. ومن ناحية أخرى، قد يكون تشكّل Valles Marineris بسبب كمية هائلة من النشاط البركاني.
وتقول إحدى النظريات أن قشرة المريخ ربما امتدت وانفتحت، عندما كانت مجموعة كبيرة من البراكين تتشكل أولًا. وربما تسببت الأنهار القديمة والانهيارات الأرضية والصهارة في مزيد من التآكل. وسيستخدم العلماء صورًا مفصلة لمحاولة الحصول على المزيد من الإجابات.
