World’s largest illegal dark web marketplace taken down

Doha: The Public Prosecution office in the city of Koblenz, western Germany, announced Tuesday, the dismantling of the “largest” website in the world for selling drugs, papers and counterfeit currency on the dark internet (Dark web).

“The operator of the site, which investigators have known as “the largest” site for sale in the world, a 34-year-old Australian, was arrested on the German-Danish border, and placed under pretrial detention”. The Public Prosecutor added – in a statement according to German radio.

And the prosecution added that “more than twenty servers in Moldova and Ukraine were also got busted.”

The prosecution conducted its investigations over a period of “months” with the contribution of two policemen from the Central Criminal Investigation Service in Oldenburg. Police officers from several countries, such as the United States, Britain, Denmark, Moldova and Ukraine also participated in the investigation.

According to the Koblenz prosecution office, the platform dismantled on Monday after the servers were stopped.

For investigators, the “Dark Market” site was “without any doubt the largest marketplace in the world on the Dark Web, with about 500,000 users and more than 2,400 sellers,” according to the public prosecution statement.

The prosecution added that “at least 320 thousand transactions were made” via Bitcoin and Monero digital currencies, with a total value of 140 million euros.

This platform was “used exclusively to sell drugs of all kinds,” the prosecutor said.

The site was also selling “fraudulent currencies, stolen or fraudulent credit card data, mobile phone cards with no identification to the user,” or even computer viruses.

The prosecution said that what was seized is supposed to allow new investigations to be opened against those who resold these goods, as well as clients and intermediaries, from now on.

Germany has begun the trial of eight individuals suspected of hosting a center for the dark web, through which criminals from all over the world conducted illegal transactions valued at millions of euros.

The eight are accused of enabling the execution of more than 249,000 crimes, by aiding and abetting the circulation of drugs through sites hosted by their servers located in an abandoned military trench along the Moselle River.

الدوحة: أعلنت النيابة العامة في مدينة كوبلنز غرب ألمانيا، اليوم الثلاثاء، عن تفكيك “أوسع” موقع إلكتروني في العالم لبيع المخدرات والأوراق والعملة المزورة على “الإنترنت المظلم” أو الشبكة المظلمة (دارك نت).

وأضافت النيابة العامة – في بيان بحسب الإذاعة الألمانية – أنه تم إلقاء القبض على مشغّل الموقع الذي عُرف عنه المحققون بأنه “أوسع” موقع للبيع في العالم، وهو أسترالي عمره 34 عاما، على الحدود الألمانية الدنماركية، ووُضع قيد الاعتقال الاحتياطي.

وتابعت النيابة أن “أكثر من عشرين خادما في مولدافيا وأوكرانيا ضُبطت أيضا”.

وأجرت النيابة تحقيقاتها على مدى “أشهر” بمساهمة شرطيين من جهاز التحقيقات الجنائية المركزي في اولدنبرغ.

وساهم في التحقيقات أيضا شرطيون من عدة دول مثل الولايات المتحدة وبريطانيا والدنمارك ومولدافيا وأوكرانيا.

وبحسب نيابة كوبلنز فإن المنصة فككت الاثنين بعد توقيف الخوادم.

وبالنسبة للمحققين فإن موقع “دارك ماركت” كان “بدون أي شك أكبر سوق في العالم على دارك ويب مع حوالي 500 ألف مستخدم وأكثر من 2400 بائع” حسب بيان النيابة العامة.

وتابعت النيابة أن “320 ألف صفقة تمت فيه على الأقل” عبر العملات الرقمية بتكوين ومونيرو بقيمة إجمالية يمكن أن تصل الى 140 مليون يورو.

وكانت هذه المنصة “تستخدم بشكل خاص لبيع المخدرات من كل الأنواع” كما أوضحت النيابة.

وكان يباع أيضًا على الموقع “عملات مزورة وبيانات بطاقات ائتمان مسروقة او مزورة وبطاقات هواتف نقالة لا تعرف عن المستخدم” أو حتى فيروسات معلوماتية.

وقالت النيابة ان ما تم ضبطه يفترض ان يتيح من الآن وصاعدا فتح تحقيقات جديدة بحق الذين أعادوا بيع تلك البضائع وزبائن ووسطاء.

وكانت ألمانيا قد بدأت محاكمة ثمانية أفراد مشتبه بهم في استضافتهم مركز لشبكة الإنترنت المظلمة، والذي أجرى مجرمون من جميع أنحاء العالم من خلاله معاملات غير قانونية تقدر قيمتها بملايين اليورو.

ويواجه الثمانية اتهامات بالتمكين من تنفيذ أكثر من 249 ألف جريمة، عبر المساعدة والتحريض على تداول مخدرات عبر مواقع استضافتها خوادمهم الموجودة في خندق عسكري مهجور على طول نهر موزيل.
