Al-Attiyah is second in the 9th stage of the Dakar International Desert Rally

Riyadh: Qatari driver Nasser al-Attiyah finished second in the ninth stage of the Dakar International Desert Rally in its 43rd edition being held in Saudi Arabia until Friday, which saw French overall leader Stéphane Peterhansel achieve his first victory. Peter Hansel, the historic champion of the rally, finished with his navigator and compatriot Edouard Bolanje on the Mini Cooper on the toughest stage of the day on the current version on the sand tracks in Nium for 579 km, in the lead after taking first place in 4.50.27 hours, 12 minutes ahead of Al Attiyah with his French navigator Matthew Bomel in the new Toyota Hilux in the second place in 5.02.27 hours.

This is the first stage won by Peter Hansel, who is seeking his 14th overall title in the current edition of the rally, and eighth in the car category, having won the cycling title six times. Al-Attiyah’s tires were exposed to three perforations on Tuesday in Nium during the ninth stage, which made him retreat to second place in the stage behind Peterhansel, to reduce his hopes of competing with the French driver for the title, especially after he moved away at the top of the overall standings by about 18 minutes from Al-Attiyah, three days before reaching the finish line.

By the end of the ninth stage, Al Attiyah maintained his position in second place in the overall standings with a total time of 34.44.06 hours, 17.50 minutes behind the 13-time Frenchman Peterhansel (7 in the car category and 6 in cycling), leading the overall standings with a total time of 34.26.1. 6 hours, while three-time champion Carlos Sainz of Spain finished third with a total time of 35.28.41 hours and 1.02.25 hours behind the leader, while The Polish Jakob Perzigonski finished fourth with a total time of 36.42.46 hours, and The Spaniard Nani Rome rounded up the top five with a total time of 37.08.54 hours.

Three-time Qatari driver Nasser al-Attiyah expressed his frustration with the laws that distinguish two-wheel drive Mini cars compared to his Toyota SUV. Al-Attiyah said in a press statement that his car was hit by three perforations, which made him lose 12 minutes and finish the stage in second place behind PeterHansel.

At this’s stage, he added, he had no spare tire and had to pay attention to the last 200 kilometres, noting that he had finally reached the finish line. “The Toyota tire has not developed in 11 years, and if that doesn’t change, next year he’s going to drive a Buggy,” al-Attiyah said. The Qatari driver stressed his commitment to the hope of competing until the final stage despite the big difference with PeterHansel, hoping that the French driver will get into trouble to reduce the big difference in the lead.

In terms of Qatari participation, driver Khalifa Al Attiyah, accompanied by his Italian navigator Paolo Siska, finished second in the ninth stage of the T4 (SSV) class, after finishing the race with a time of 5.43.15 hours and 11.34 minutes behind Chile’s Francesco Contnardo with his navigator and compatriot Juan Vinager who topped the race, to move forward to ninth in the overall standings with a total time of 46.33.39 hours.

In the motorcycle category, the second overall ranking and 2019 Australian version champion Toby Price is out of the stage, after falling and sustaining a head injury. Argentina’s Kevin Benocides was named the champion, while his brother Luciano suffered a fall and a head injury and was taken to a hospital in Tabuk. With Price out, Chile’s Jose Cornejo extended the lead to more than 11 minutes with his nearest rival Benavidis.

الرياض: حقق السائق القطري ناصر العطية المركز الثاني في المرحلة التاسعة من منافسات رالي داكار الدولي الصحراوي في نسخته الثالثة والأربعين التي تقام في المملكة العربية السعودية حتى يوم الجمعة المقبل، والتي شهدت تحقيق متصدر الترتيب العام الفرنسي ستيفان بيترهانسل فوزه الأول.

وأنهى بيترهانسل البطل التاريخي للرالي بصحبة ملاحه ومواطنه إدوار بولانجيه على متن سيارة /ميني كوبر/ مرحلة اليوم الأصعب في النسخة الحالية على المسارات الرملية في نيوم لمسافة 579 كلم، في الصدارة بعدما احتل المركز الأول بزمن قدره 4.50.27 ساعات، متفوقا بفارق 12 دقيقة عن العطية بصحبة ملاحه الفرنسي ماثيو بوميل على متن سيارة /تويوتا/ صحب المركز الثاني بزمن قدره 5.02.27 ساعات.

وتعد هذه المرحلة الأولى التي يحرزها بيترهانسل، الباحث عن لقبه الرابع عشر عامة في النسخة الحالية من الرالي، والثامن في فئة السيارات، بعدما نال لقب الدراجات ست مرات.

وتعرضت إطارات سيارة العطية لثلاثة ثقوب يوم /الثلاثاء/ في نيوم خلال المرحلة التاسعة الأمر الذي جعله يتراجع إلى المركز الثاني في المرحلة خلف بيترهانسيل ، لتتقلص آماله في منافسة السائق الفرنسي على اللقب خاصة بعدما ابتعد في صدارة الترتيب العام بفارق نحو 18 دقيقة عن العطية وذلك قبل ثلاثة أيام من الوصول إلى خط النهاية.

وبانتهاء المرحلة التاسعة، حافظ العطية على موقعه في المركز الثاني بالترتيب العام بزمن إجمالي قدره 34.44.06 ساعة، وبفارق 17.50 دقيقة عن الفرنسي بيترهانسيل حامل اللقب 13 مرة (7 في فئة السيارات و6 في الدرجات)، في صدارة الترتيب العام بزمن إجمالي قدره 34.26.16 ساعة، فيما احتل الإسباني كارلوس ساينز حامل اللقب ثلاث مرات، المركز الثالث بزمن إجمالي قدره 35.28.41 ساعة وبفارق 1.02.25 ساعة عن المتصدر، بينما احتل البولندي جاكوب برزيغونسكي المركز الرابع بزمن إجمالي قدره 36.42.46 ساعة، وأكمل الإسباني ناني روما قائمة المراكز الخمسة الأولى بزمن إجمالي قدره 37.08.54 ساعة.

وأعرب السائق القطري ناصر العطية المتوج ثلاث مرات بفئة السيارات عن احباطه من القوانين التي تميز سيارات ميني ذات الدفع الثنائي مقارنة مع سيارته تويوتا الرباعية الدفع.

وقال العطية ، في تصريح صحفي، إن سيارته تعرضت لثلاثة انثقابات، وهو ما جعله يخسر 12 دقيقة وينهي المرحلة في المركز الثاني خلف بيترهانسل.

وأضاف أنه لم يعد لديه في هذه المرحلة إطار احتياطي وتعين عليه الانتباه في آخر 200 كلم، مشيرا إلى أنه تمكن في النهاية من الوصول إلى خط النهاية.

وأوضح العطية (50 عاما) أن إطار تويوتا لم يتطور منذ 11 عاما، واذا لم يتغير هذا الأمر فانه العام المقبل سيقود سيارة باجي”.

وشدد السائق القطري على تمسكه بأمل المنافسة حتى المرحلة النهائية برغم الفارق الكبير مع بيترهانسل، على أمل وقوع السائق الفرنسي في مشكلات لتقليص الفارق الكبير في الصدارة.

وعلى صعيد المشاركة القطرية، تمكن السائق خليفة العطية بصحبة ملاحه الإيطالي باولو سيسكا، من إحراز المركز الثاني في المرحلة التاسعة لفئة تي4 /SSV/، بعدما أنهى السباق بزمن قدره 5.43.15 ساعات، وبفارق 11.34 دقيقة عن التشيلي فرانسسكو كونتاردو بصحبة ملاحه ومواطنه جوان فيناجر صاحب المركز الأول ، ليتقدم إلى المركز التاسع في الترتيب العام بزمن إجمالي قدره 46.33.39 ساعة.

وفي فئة الدراجات النارية، خرج ثاني الترتيب العام وبطل نسخة 2019 الاسترالي توبي برايس من المرحلة ، بعد سقوطه وتعرضه لإصابة برأسه.

وأحرز لقب المرحلة الارجنتيني كيفن بينافيديس، فيما تعرض شقيقه لوسيانو لحادث سقوط وإصابة برأسه أيضاً فتم نقله الى مستشفى في تبوك.

وفي ظل خروج برايس، وسع متصدر الترتيب العام التشيلي خوسيه كورنيخو الفارق في الصدارة إلى أكثر من 11 دقيقة مع اقرب منافسيه بينافيديس.
