U.S. awards Ambassador of Qatar highest medal for Distinguished Public Service

Washington: The United States, represented by the US Department of Defense, presented HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the United States of America Sheikh Meshaal bin Hamad Al-Thani with the Department of Defense Medal for Distinguished Public Service, the highest honorary award given by the United States to US officials and officials of the governments of friendly countries.

The medal is granted in recognition of distinguished and exceptional services and impressive achievements made by persons concerned who deserve appreciation and praise for their performance.

HE US National Security Adviser Ambassador Robert O’Brien handed the medal to HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the United States Sheikh Meshaal bin Hamad Al-Thani.

The US Department of Defense affirmed that awarding this high honor to HE the Ambassador comes in recognition of his efforts in strengthening relations between Qatar and the United States at the levels of foreign policies, defense, economy and national security.

The Department of Defense said that HE the Ambassador played an effective and major role in planning and launching the Qatar-US Strategic Dialogue, and that his pivotal role contributed to the continuation and preservation of this dialogue.

The United States commended the role of HE the Ambassador, who worked to hold and organize meetings between officials and economic actors of the two countries, pointing out that the cooperation and commitment made by HE the Ambassador to achieve economic security had contributed to strengthening the national security and defense.

The US Department of Defense pointed out that HE the Ambassador also emerged as the main interlocutor in strengthening the defense partnership between the State of Qatar and the United States, and that his efforts to expand and deepen this cooperation between the two countries led to the strengthening of stability in the region, noting that HE the Ambassador also supported the close cooperation between the State of Qatar and the United States in the context of seeking peace in Afghanistan.

In addition, the US Department of Defense hailed the great assistance provided by HE the Ambassador to the American officials who traveled to Doha throughout the period from July, 2018 until December, 2020 to hold meetings with representatives of the Taliban, stating that His Excellency’s efforts reflect the role of the State of Qatar in this regard and had also a positive impact on the safety and security of US personnel and officials in the region.

The medal was adopted in 1947 and recognizes the exceptionally distinguished service of significance to the Department of Defense as a whole, or service of such exceptional significance.

This medal is given in recognition of the considerable personal sacrifice motivated by patriotism and a sense of public responsibility.

It is also an acknowledgment by the US Department of Defense of individuals’ achievements and contributions that qualify them to receive this medal.

The US Department of Defense Medal for Distinguished Public Service was presented in the past to former US Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and other prominent figures.

واشنطن: منحت الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية ممثلة بوزارة الدفاع الأمريكية، سعادة الشيخ مشعل بن حمد آل ثاني، سفير دولة قطر لدى الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية، وسام وزارة الدفاع للخدمة العامة المتميزة والذي يعتبر من أرفع الأوسمة التي تمنحها الولايات المتحدة لمسؤولين أمريكيين ومسؤولين في حكومات الدول الصديقة.

ويمنح الوسام تقديرا للخدمات المميزة والاستثنائية والإنجازات المبهرة التي قام بها الأشخاص المعنيون والذين يستحقون التقدير والثناء لما قدموه.

وقام سعادة السفير روبرت اوبراين، مستشار الأمن القومي الأمريكي، بتسليم الوسام لسعادة الشيخ مشعل بن حمد آل ثاني، سفير دولة قطر لدى الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية.

وأكدت وزارة الدفاع الأمريكية أن منحها هذا الوسام الرفيع لسعادة السفير يأتي تقديرا لجهوده التي بذلها ممثلا لدولة قطر في تعزيز العلاقات بين قطر والولايات المتحدة على صعد السياسات الخارجية والدفاع والاقتصاد والأمن الوطني.

وقالت الوزارة، إن سعادة السفير لعب دورا فعالا ورئيسيا في التخطيط وإطلاق الحوار الاستراتيجي بين دولة قطر والولايات المتحدة الأمريكية، وأن دوره المحوري ساهم في الاستمرار والحفاظ على هذا الحوار.

وأثنت الولايات المتحدة على دور سعادة السفير الذي عمل على عقد وتنظيم الاجتماعات بين المسؤولين والفعاليات الاقتصادية بين البلدين، مشيرة إلى أن ما أبداه سعادة السفير من تعاون والتزام لتحقيق الأمن الاقتصادي قد ساهم في تعزيز الأمن والدفاع الوطني.

ولفتت وزارة الدفاع الأمريكية إلى أن سعادة السفير برز أيضا بوصفه المحاور الرئيسي في تعزيز الشراكة الدفاعية بين دولة قطر والولايات المتحدة، وأن جهوده لتوسيع وتعميق هذا التعاون بين البلدين أدت إلى تعزيز الاستقرار في المنطقة، مشيرة إلى أن سعادة السفير دعم أيضا التعاون الوثيق بين دولة قطر والولايات المتحدة في سياق السعي لتحقيق السلام في أفغانستان.

وأثنت وزارة الدفاع الأمريكية على المساعدة الكبيرة التي قدمها سعادة السفير للمسؤولين الأمريكيين الذين سافروا طوال الفترة من يوليو 2018 إلى ديسمبر 2020 إلى الدوحة، لعقد الاجتماعات مع ممثلي طالبان، وقالت إن جهود سعادته لم تعكس فقط دور دولة قطر وما بذلته على هذا الصعيد، بل كان لها الوقع الإيجابي على سلامة وأمن الموظفين والمسؤولين الأمريكيين في المنطقة.

ويُعد وسام وزارة الدفاع للخدمة العامة المتميزة، أعلى وسام يمنحه وزير الدفاع للشخصيات الوطنية والشخصيات السياسية والعسكرية في الحكومات الأجنبية، وجرى إقرار واعتماد الوسام في عام 1947 من أجل تقدير الخدمة المتميزة بشكل استثنائي ذات الأهمية لوزارة الدفاع ككل أو الخدمة المتميزة ذات الأهمية الاستثنائية.

ويمنح هذا الوسام تقديرا للخدمات المميزة والاستثنائية والإنجازات المبهرة التي قام بها الأشخاص المعنيون والذين يستحقون التقدير والثناء لما قدموه، كما يمنح أيضا تقديرا لما بذلته الشخصيات التي تحصل عليه من تضحيات كبيرة خدمة للوطن ونتيجة للمسؤولية الكبرى والعامة التي قامت بها تلك الشخصيات خلال أدائها لمناصبها.

ويشكل منح الوسام إقرارا من وزارة الدفاع الأمريكية بمدى ما حققته الشخصيات من إنجازات وإسهامات يؤهلها لكي تحظى بهذا التقدير.

ومنح هذا الوسام في السابق لرؤساء الولايات المتحدة السابقين: باراك أوباما، جورج دبليو بوش، وبيل كلينتون وغيرهم من الشخصيات البارزة.
