Al-Attiyah secures 5th win in Dakar International Rally

Doha: Our world champion Nasser Saleh al-Attiyah managed to narrow the gap at the top of the overall standings of the Dakar International Rally, which is currently being held in Saudi Arabia after winning the eighth stage, which was held yesterday for 709 km, including 375 kilometers, a special stage between Skaka and Nium. 

Our champion alongside his navigator Matteo Bomel of France on board the new Toyota Hilux in the Gazo Racing team scored a time of 2.56:56 hours, ahead of the MiniX Red duo, 52 seconds behind second-placed Spaniard Carlos Sainz in the stage yesterday, with 3:03 minutes difference from Frenchman Stéphane Peterhansel, third place and the leader of the overall standings, but the difference after yesterday’s stage narrowed to 4:50 with 4 rounds remaining on the end of the rally, while the title-holder Sainz is far away in third place by a wide margin 38:55 min from the top of the overall standings.

This is Al-Attiyah’s fifth victory in this year’s rally after winning the prologue and the second, third and fourth stages in addition to yesterday’s stage, to achieve the total victory of 40 stages in the most difficult rally in the world.

Our hero Al Attiyah gave a strong performance yesterday where he set off from the fourth place to take the lead at the first traffic point of Carlos Sainz and the winner of the seventh stage Yazid Al Rajhi, while Peter Hansel was 30 seconds away in the fourth place, before the latter managed to snatch the lead from al-Attiyah by the fourth traffic point, but our hero Al Attiyah never retreated for more than 20 seconds behind the Frenchman, where he regained the lead after two subsequent passing points, and once he returned to the lead, the Toyota driver steadily sought the lead, to win the lead by a minute difference came from the title holder and the driver of the “X-Ride Mini” Sainz, while Petransel finished in third place with 3 minutes and 3 seconds.

On the other hand, former WRC driver Khalid Al Qasimi scored his best result in the 2021 version so far by finishing fourth, where he completed the stage with 12 minutes and 44 seconds behind Al Attiyah, while Cyril Debre finished in fifth place with only 5 seconds more, while Saudi Yazid Al Rajhi faced mechanical problems, as problems continued with Sebastian Loeb, where he had to stop twice during the first 40 km after suffering from two separate perforations.

With the marathon stage nearing the end, Petransel is now leading the overall standings with a difference of 4 minute 50 seconds ahead of Al-Attiyah, while Sainz is in third place with 38 minutes and 55 seconds, while Brzezinski is comfortably in fourth place against Rome, Vasiliev and Kassimi, while Debre is 10th behind Prokop and LaVilliers.

In the T4 category «SSV» driver Khalifa Saleh al-Attiyah, along with his Italian navigator Paolo Siska, came in late yesterday due to breakdowns that followed him in the marathon stage in 31st place with a difference of 2:09.10 hours, in a time of 5:46.55 hours, Khalifa Saleh falling to 14th place in the overall standings of this category in a total time of 40:50.24 hours.

In the same category «T4», the Qatari team consisting of Ahmed al-Kuwari, his navigator and his compatriot Nasser al-Kuwari on board the Yamaha (YXZ) 1000 R announced his withdrawal from the Dakar Rally after suffering a breakdown in the seventh stage which forced him to stop to wait for help in the marathon stage, which does not require help to shorten the rally stage to a time penalty of up to 62 hours, while the duo participate in another category reserved for drivers withdrawing from the Dakar Rally.

The ninth stage will be held today in “Nium” for a distance of 579 kilometers, of which 465 kilometers will be a special stage, and will be a closed track, starting in “Nium” and ending in it, the second stage of this kind during the rally, the beginning will be with the beautiful nature of the Red Sea where the path will extend for ten kilometers along the sea, three or four meters from the water. Then a rocky path in large valleys followed by the participants head to the middle section, sand trails with great pleasure to drive on, before returning to difficult paths in narrow valleys with lots of rocks, so participants have to be careful and focus on the path so they don’t suffer from perforations on their way back to Nium.

Our world champion Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah expressed his happiness to win the eighth stage of the rally and capturing 3 minutes from the French leader Peter Hansel, and said: «Thank God we finished the eighth day of the rally, and things are good, we sought to do our best since the beginning of the marathon stage where the marathon stage was not easy, and I am very happy with what we achieved.”

He added: The car is in good condition after the two stages of the marathon, we pushed hard in some sections to stay at the same level as the buggy cars, and this is not easy, but I am very happy to finish the marathon stage, the eighth stage was great for us, we were able to capture 3 minutes from Stefan Betransel and reduce the difference, so I am very happy, and we will see what happens next.

He continued: We still have 4 days and it will not be easy, but we will try to finish every day on its own, it is difficult to talk about our chances because the Buggy cars are in a more comfortable position, with better cohesion and bigger wheels, so they suffer less perforations. We’ve had eight tire perforations since the start so far, so it’s not easy, my colleague Genel de Villiers has suffered 16 perforations, so that’s not easy. I also don’t want to make excuses, we have four days to go and we will try to do our best.

الدوحة: نجح بطلنا العالمي ناصر صالح العطية في تقليص الفارق في صدارة الترتيب العام لرالي داكار الدولي المقام حاليًا في المملكة العربية السعودية بعد فوزه بالمرحلة الثامنة التي أقيمت أمس لمسافة 709كيلومترات منها 375 كيلومترًا مرحلة خاصة بين سكاكا ونيوم. .

وسجّل بطلنا العطية مع ملّاحه الفرنسي ماتيو بوميل على متن تويوتا هايلوكس الجديدة ضمن فريق غازو ريسينغ زمنًا قدره 2.56:56 ساعة، متقدمًا على ثنائي ميني أكس ريد، بفارق 52 ثانية عن الإسباني كارلوس ساينز صاحب المركز الثاني في مرحلة الأمس، وبفارق 3:03 دقائق عن الفرنسي ستيفان بيترهانسل صاحب المركز الثالث ومُتصدر الترتيب العام، إلا أن الفارق بعد مرحلة الأمس تقلص إلى 4:50 دقائق مع تبقى 4 جولات على نهاية الرالي، فيما يبتعد ساينز حامل اللقب في المركز الثالث بفارق كبير 38:55 دقيقة عن مُتصدر الترتيب العام.

ويُعد هذا هو الفوز الخامس للعطية في الرالي هذا العام بعد فوزه بالمرحلة الاستعراضية والمراحل الثانية والثالثة والرابعة بالإضافة إلى مرحلة الأمس، ليُحقق العطية إجمالي فوز ب 40 مرحلة بالرالي الأكثر صعوبة على مستوى العالم.

وقدّم بطلنا العطية أداءً قويًا أمس حيث انطلق من المركز الرابع ليقتنص الصدارة عند نقطة المرور الأولى من كارلوس ساينز والفائز بمرحلة السابعة يزيد الراجحي، بينما تواجد بيترانسيل على بُعد 30 ثانية في المركز الرابع، قبل أن يتمكن الأخير من انتزاع الصدارة من العطية بحلول نقطة المرور الرابعة، لكنّ بطلنا العطية لم يتراجع مطلقًا لأكثر من 20 ثانية خلف الفرنسي، حيث استعاد زمام المُبادرة بعد نقطتي مرور لاحقتين، وبمجرد عودته إلى الصدارة، وسّع بثبات سائق تويوتا أفضليته، ليفوز بالمرحلة بفارق قارب الدقيقة أمام حامل اللقب وسائق «اكس-رايد ميني» ساينز، بينما اكتفى بيترانسيل بالمركز الثالث بفارق 3 دقائق و3 ثوانٍ.

في المقابل، سجّل سائق «دبليو آر سي» السابق خالد القاسمي أفضل نتيجة له في نسخة 2021 حتى الآن بحلوله بالمركز الرابع، حيث أكمل المرحلة بفارق 12 دقيقة و44 ثانية خلف العطية، في حين حل سيريل ديبريه في المركز الخامس بفارق 5 ثوانٍ إضافية فقط، بينما واجه السعودي يزيد الراجحي مشاكل ميكانيكية، كما استمرت المشاكل مع سيباستيان لوب، حيث اضطر للتوقف مرتين خلال ال 40 كلم الأولى إثر مُعاناته من انثقابين منفصلين.

هذا ومع انتهاء المرحلة الماراثونية، يتصدّر بيترانسيل الترتيب العام الآن بفارق متقلّص يبلغ 4 دقائق و50 ثانية أمام العطية، بينما يتواجد ساينز في المركز الثالث بفارق 38 دقيقة و55 ثانية، في حين يتواجد بريجنسكي بأريحية في المركز الرابع أمام روما، فاسيلييف والقاسمي، فيما تقدم ديبريه إلى المركز العاشر خلف بروكوب ولافيلييه.

وفي فئة تي 4 «SSV» جاء السائق خليفة صالح العطية مع ملّاحه الإيطالي باولو سيسكا، في مركز متأخر يوم أمس بسبب الأعطال التي لاحقته في المرحلة الماراثونية في المركز 31 بفارق 2:09.10 ساعة، بزمن قدره 5:46.55 ساعة، ليتراجع خليفة صالح إلى المركز 14 في الترتيب العام لهذه الفئة بزمن إجمالي 40:50.24 ساعة.

وفي نفس الفئة «تي 4»، أعلن الفريق القطري المكون من أحمد الكواري وملّاحه ومُواطنه ناصر الكواري على متن سيارة ياماها (YXZ) 1000 R انسحابه من رالي داكار بعد أن تعرّض لأعطال في المرحلة السابعة والتي أجبرته على التوقف لانتظار المساعدة في مرحلة الماراثون التي لا تتطلب مساعدة ليضطر إلى اختصار مرحلة الرالي لتقع عليه عقوبة زمنية تصل إلى 62 ساعة، فيما يُشارك الثنائي في فئة أخرى مُخصّصة للسائقين المُنسحبين من رالي داكار.

وتقام اليوم المرحلة التاسعة في «نيوم» لمسافة 579 كيلومتر منها 465 كيلومترًا مرحلة خاصة، وستكون بمسار مُغلق، يبدأ في «نيوم» وينتهي فيها، وهي ثاني مرحلة من هذا النوع خلال الرالي، ستكون البداية مع الطبيعة الجميلة للبحر الأحمر حيث سيمتد المسار لعشرة كيلومترات بمحاذاة البحر، على بعد ثلاثة أو أربعة أمتار من المياه. ومن ثم مسار صخري في وديان كبيرة يتوجه بعده المُشاركون للقسم الأوسط، مسارات رملية مع مُتعة كبيرة للقيادة عليها، قبل العودة لمسارات صعبة في وديان ضيّقة مع الكثير من الصخور، لذا فإن على المُشاركين الحذر والتركيز على المسار لكيلا يتعرّضوا للانثقابات في طريقهم للعودة إلى نيوم.

أعرب بطلنا العالمي ناصر صالح العطية عن سعادته بالفوز بالمرحلة الثامنة من الرالي واقتناص 3 دقائق من المُتصدر الفرنسي بيتر هانسل، وقال: «الحمد لله أنهينا اليوم الثامن من الرالي، والأمور طيبة، سعينا لبذل أفضل ما لدينا منذ بداية مرحلة الماراثون حيث لم تكن المرحلة الماراثونية سهلة، وأنا سعيدٌ للغاية بما حققناه».

وأضاف: السيارة بحالة سليمة بعد مرحلتي الماراثون، لقد ضغطنا بقوة في بعض المقاطع من أجل البقاء بنفس مستوى سيارات الباغي، وهذا ليس سهلًا، ولكني سعيدٌ للغاية بإنهاء المرحلة الماراثونية، لقد كانت المرحلة الثامنة رائعةً بالنسبة لنا، لقد تمكنا من اقتناص 3 دقائق من ستيفان بيترانسل وتقليص الفارق، لذا أنا سعيدٌ للغاية، وسنرى ما سيحصل لاحقًا.

وتابع: لا يزال أمامنا 4 أيام ولن تكون سهلةً، ولكننا سنسعى لأن نُنهي كل يومٍ بيومه، من الصعب أن الحديث عن فرصنا لأن سيارات الباغي في وضعٍ مريح أكثر، مع تماسك أفضل وعجلات أكبر، لذا فهي تعاني من انثقابات أقل. لقد عانينا من 8 انثقابات في الإطارات منذ الانطلاقة لغاية الآن، لذا فإن هذا ليس سهلًا، عانى زميلي جينيل دي فيلييرز من 16 انثقابًا، لذا هذا ليس بالهين. كما لا أريد اختلاق أعذار، أمامنا 4 أيام على انتهاء الرالي وسنسعى لبذل أفضل ما لدينا.
