Qatar Celebrates Arab Environment Day

Doha: The State of Qatar participated on Wednesday in the celebration of the Arab Environment Day, which was adopted by the League of Arab States on the occasion of the First Conference for Arab Environment Ministers and Officials in Tunisia in 1986 to focus attention on the fact that every person in the Arab land belongs to one environment.

Assistant Undersecretary for Environmental Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment Engineer Hassan Bojumhour Al Mohannadi, said in a speech during the event that was held through visual communication technology, that the participation of the State of Qatar in celebrating the Arab Environment Day for this year, which comes under the slogan electronic and electrical waste is reality and solutions, comes within the framework of the state’s permanent keenness to contribute to supporting joint Arab action in the environmental fields.

He explained that the State of Qatar is fully aware of the importance of this years slogan on electronic waste, which gains its importance from being one of the environmental issues that require strengthening cooperation at the Arab and global levels, given the growing nature of this type of waste in light of the progress in the field of electronics and the increase in reliance on it. It invites us to search for solutions and ways to meet this challenge.

He also stressed the importance of developing concrete and effective solutions to address the challenges that may arise from e-waste, in a manner that leads to reducing the negative effects of this type of waste and its consequences on health and the environment. He expressed his aspiration to turn this challenge into an opportunity for Arab and global cooperation to draw a roadmap and establish a clear approach and framework, to achieve the sound management of electronic waste in an effective and efficient manner, based on knowledge and the exchange of experiences and sustainable best practices.

Engineer Hassan Al Mohannadi praised the existing cooperation efforts between the Ministry of Municipality and Environment represented by the Environmental Affairs Sector and the private sector with regard to electronic waste. The most prominent of which was a series of consultative meetings with companies working in the field of electronic and medical waste, because it is an important platform to listen to views and work to develop a waste management system in a way that serves the community and the state in implementing the obligations of international agreements on e-waste.

He concluded by pointing to the importance of community awareness of the issue of e-waste, as society is the main key to ensuring the success of any measures or efforts that would contribute to facing the e-waste challenge, whether at the national, Arab or international level in general.

الدوحة: شاركت دولة قطر اليوم، في الاحتفال بيوم البيئة العربي الذي تبنته جامعة الدول العربية بمناسبة انعقاد المؤتمر الوزاري الأول لوزراء ومسؤولي البيئة العرب بتونس سنة 1986، لتركيز الاهتمام على أن كل إنسان في الأرض العربية ينتمي لبيئة واحدة.

وقال المهندس حسن بوجمهور المهندي وكيل الوزارة المساعد لشؤون البيئة بوزارة البلدية والبيئة، في كلمة خلال الفعالية التي أقيمت عبر تقنية الاتصال المرئي، إن مشاركة دولة قطر في الاحتفاء بيوم البيئة العربي لهذا العام، والذي يأتي تحت شعار /النفايات الإلكترونية والكهربائية واقع وحلول/، يأتي في إطار حرص الدولة الدائم على المساهمة في دعم العمل العربي المشترك في المجالات البيئية.

وأوضح أن دولة قطر تدرك تماما أهمية شعار هذا العام حول النفايات الإلكترونية، والذي يكتسب أهميته من كونه إحدى المسائل البيئية التي تتطلب تعزيز التعاون على الصعيدين العربي والعالمي، نظرا للطبيعة المتنامية لهذا النوع من النفايات في ظل التقدم في مجال الإلكترونيات وزيادة الاعتماد عليها، “الأمر الذي يدعونا إلى البحث عن الحلول والسبل التي من شأنها مواجهة هذا التحدي”.

كما أكد أهمية وضع حلول ملموسة وفعالة لمعالجة التحديات التي قد تنشأ من النفايات الإلكترونية، وبالشكل الذي يؤدي إلى الحد من الآثار السلبية لهذا النوع من النفايات وتبعاتها على الصحة والبيئة، معربا عن تطلعه إلى تحويل هذا التحدي إلى فرصة للتعاون العربي والعالمي لرسم خارطة طريق وإنشاء نهج وإطار واضحين، لتحقيق الإدارة السليمة للنفايات الإلكترونية بشكل يتسم بالفعالية والكفاءة ويقوم على المعرفة وتبادل الخبرات وأفضل الممارسات المستدامة.

وأثنى المهندس حسن المهندي على جهود التعاون القائمة بين وزارة البلدية والبيئة ممثلة بقطاع شؤون البيئة والقطاع الخاص فيما يخص النفايات الإلكترونية، والتي كان من أبرزها سلسلة اللقاءات التشاورية مع الشركات العاملة في مجال النفايات الإلكترونية والطبية، لأنها تعد منصة مهمة للاستماع إلى وجهات النظر والعمل على تطوير منظومة إدارة النفايات بما يخدم المجتمع والدولة في تنفيذ التزامات الاتفاقيات الدولية بشأن النفايات الإلكترونية.

وفي ختام كلمته، أشار إلى أهمية الوعي المجتمعي بقضية النفايات الإلكترونية، كون المجتمع هو المفتاح الرئيسي لضمان نجاح أي تدابير أو جهود، من شأنها المساهمة في مواجهة تحدي النفايات الإلكترونية سواء على المستوى الوطني أو العربي أو الدولي بشكل عام.

ويتخذ يوم البيئة العربي هذا العام شعار /النفايات الإلكترونية.. واقع وحلول/، والذي صممته دولة فلسطين، حيث تعرف النفايات الإلكترونية بحسب برنامج الأمم المتحدة للبيئة /UNEP/ على أنها ما تبقى من الهواتف المحمولة وأجهزة الكمبيوتر وأجهزة الستيريو الشخصية ومصابيح الفلورسنت والمصابيح المتوهجة، وكذلك الأجهزة المنزلية الكبيرة مثل أجهزة التلفاز والثلاجات والغسالات ومكيفات الهواء وغير ذلك.

وتبذل دولة قطر جهودا في مجال التخلص الآمن من النفايات الإلكترونية، من خلال نشر الوعي بضرورة الاستهلاك الفعال للأجهزة الإلكترونية وتقليل نسبة النفايات الناتجة منها، وإعادة استخدام الأجهزة الإلكترونية عن طريق التبرعات للجمعيات الخيرية، كما اعتمدت وزارة البلدية والبيئة مرفقا معتمدا ومرخصا في الدولة للجمع والتخلص من النفايات الإلكترونية.
