Doha: A large number of social media users have begun to pay attention to the Signal instant messaging app after the recent uproar over WhatsApp’s new privacy updates, which users choose between accepting on February 8th, a new violation of their privacy, experts say, or the deletion of the account altogether.
Global media and social media have been interested in talking about alternative applications, particularly Signal, after a tweet by Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, calling for its use and the abandonment of WhatsApp, the world’s most popular app, with nearly 2 billion users.

(1) The new policy allows WhatsApp to share some of its user data with Facebook, the app’s owner, and allocate space to interact with ads, according to BBC Arabic.
(2) Signal announced itself, and entered the line of the recent crisis, saying through its Twitter account with 276,400 followers vs. (2.074,377) followers of WhatsApp: “Maintaining privacy must be the normal pattern,” and wrote in the identification box of the official Twitter account “Welcome privacy,” according to Al Jazeera Net.
(3) The Signal app was first introduced in 2014 and the implementing company receives funding from non-profit organizations that advocate freedom of expression. It is a commonly used app among journalists.
(4) Signal is an instant messaging app, such as WhatsApp and Telegram, that uses high encryption to protect the communications and data of its users. The app has seen notable download rates recently. In December alone, there were more than 700,000 phone installations, according to Sensor Tower, according to CNN Arabic.
(5) Signal is available on the Apple and Google stores and after installing it on the phone you must enter the phone number to start the registration process to receive a message containing a code of 6 numbers to install the application and create your profile (photo and name) that will appear to your contacts.

(9) Although the two applications are similar, there are some radical differences between them, as “Signal uses a special open source encryption system that allows experts to check the basic code at any time, while WhatsApp does not allow its code to be easily scanned.”

الدوحة: بدأ عدد كبير من مستخدمي مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي في الاهتمام بتطبيق سيجنال للتراسل الفوري بعد الضجة التي أثارها واتساب مؤخراً بسبب تحديثاته الجديدة الخاصة بالخصوصية والتي تخير المستخدمين بين قبولها في 8 فبراير المقبل وهو ما يمثل انتهاكاً جديداً لخصوصيتهم، بحسب خبراء، أو حذف الحساب نهائياً.
واهتمت وسائل الإعلام العالمية ومواقع التواصل الاجتماعي بالحديث عن التطبيقات البديلة خاصة تطبيق سيجنال بعد تغريدة لإيلون ماسك المدير التنفيذي لشركة سبيس إكس وتيسلا، دعا فيها إلى استخدامه والتخلي عن واتساب التطبيق الأكثر انتشاراً في العالم بحوالي ملياري شخص.
** إليك أهم المعلومات عن ميزات تطبيق سيجنال وتحديثات واتساب الجديدة:
(1) تسمح السياسية الجديدة لـ”واتساب” بمشاركة بعض بيانات مستخدميه مع “فيسبوك” المالكة للتطبيق وتخصيص مساحة للتفاعل مع الإعلانات، بحسب بي بي سي عربي.
(2) أعلن سيجنال عن نفسه، ودخل على خط الأزمة الأخيرة، قائلاً عبر حسابه بموقع تويتر الذي يتابعه 276400 مقابل (2.074.377) متابعاً لواتساب: “يجب أن يكون الحفاظ على الخصوصية هو النمط الطبيعي”، وكتب في خانة التعريف الخاصة بالحساب الرسمي على تويتر “رحبوا بالخصوصية”، وفق الجزيرة نت.
(3) طرح تطبيق “سيغنال” لأول مرة عام 2014 وتتلقى الشركة المالكة للتطبيق تمويلاً من منظمات غير ربحية تُنعى بضمان حرية التعبير. وهو تطبيق شائع الاستخدام بين الصحفيين.
(4) سيجنال هو تطبيق للتراسل الفوري، مثل واتسآب وتيليغرام، يستخدم تشفيراً شديداً لحماية اتصالات وبيانات مستخدميه. وشهد التطبيق معدلات تحميل لافتة في الآونة الأخيرة. وفي ديسمبر وحده كان هناك أكثر من 700 ألف عملية تثبيت له على الهواتف، حسب موقع Sensor Tower، وفق موقع سي إن إن بالعربية.
(5) يتوفر “سيجنال” على متجري آبل وجوجل وبعد تثبيته على الهاتف يجب إدخال رقم الهاتف لبدء عملية التسجيل لتلقي رسالة تتضمن كود من 6 أرقام لتثبيت التطبيق وإنشاء ملفك الشخصي (الصورة والاسم) الذي سيظهر لجهات اتصالك.
(6) يوفر التطبيق خدمات إرسال الرسائل النصية والصوتية ورسائل الفيديو والوسائط وإجراء مكالمات صوتية وفيديو. وبحسب مواقع إلكترونية، فإنه لكي تتمكن من إنشاء رسالة على Signal، سيطلب إذناً للوصول إلى جهات الاتصال الخاصة بك، وعند الرفض يمكنك إدخال جهات الاتصال المرغوب بها يدوياً.
(7) يُعتقد أنه من الصعب على طرف ثالث اختراق محادثات “سيغنال”. ورغم الحديث عن نجاح إحدى شركات التجسس في اختراق التطبيق، إلا أنه وتقنيين آخرين فندوا ذلك، بحسب ما ذكرته صحيفة هارتس الإسرائيلية في مقالين منفصلين الشهر الماضي.
(8) يقول موقع بي بي سي عربي إن هناك العديد من أوجه التشابه بين و”اتساب” و”سيغنال”، فكلاهما يستخدم نفس تقنية التشفير “طرف إلى طرف” مما يعني أنه لا يمكن فك تشفير الرسائل أثناء إرسالها بين الأجهزة.
(9) رغم التشابه بين التطبيقين إلا أن هناك بعض الاختلافات الجذرية بينهما، حيث “يستخدم تطبيق “سيغنال” نظام تشفير خاص مفتوح المصدر مما يتيح للخبراء فرصة فحص الكود الأساسي في أي وقت، في حين لا يسمح تطبيق واتساب بفحص الكود الخاص به بسهولة”.
(10) يسمح “واتساب” بحسب بي بي سي نقلاً عن خبير تقني، بتخزين كم هائل من البيانات المتعلقة بالمستخدم ونشاطاته. وسيجمع المزيد من المعلومات مع التحديث القادم لمشاركتها مع مجموعة فيسبوك”.
(11) لن “يجمع واتساب البيانات الحقيقية للمستخدم بل سيستعمل البيانات الوصفية وهي عبارة عن خوارزميات ستصف لشركات فيسبوك الأخرى اهتماماتك ونشاطاتك”.
(12) عادة ما تستعين بعض الشركات التجارية بـ “واتساب” للتواصل مع عملائها، لذلك طرحت مجموعة فيسبوك قبل سنوات تطبيق “واتساب للأعمال” لجني المزيد من الأرباح، لكن الأمر “يختلف مع سيغنال، فلن يحتفظ بمعلومات عنك أو نشاطاتك، ولن يشاركها مع طرف ثالث”. وينفي القائمون على التطبيق وجود خطة لتضمين الإعلانات على الأقل في الوقت الحالي.
