Japan Confirms New Coronavirus Variant

Tokyo: The Japanese Ministry of Health announced Sunday the discovery of a new variant of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) that differs from the previous two strains that were discovered in Britain and South Africa.
Four people who arrived at Tokyo’s Haneda airport from Brazil have been found to be infected with a new variant of the coronavirus, head of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases Takaji Wakita was reported by Kyodo News Agency as saying.
It is noteworthy that the total number of Coronavirus cases in Japan reached 283,385 so far, while the number of deaths stood at 4,035.
Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga said the government declared a state of emergency over the coronavirus pandemic in Tokyo and three other prefectures which took effect Friday.
The state of emergency covered the Osaka, Kyoto and Hyogo prefectures, and will continue until February 7.
By declaring a state of emergency, the central government enables local authorities to urge people to stay at home as much as possible.

طوكيو: أعلنت وزارة الصحة اليابانية، يوم الأمس، عن اكتشاف سلالة جديدة من فيروس كورونا تختلف عن السلالتين السابقتين اللتين اكتشفتا سابقا في بريطانيا وجنوب إفريقيا.
وقال السيد تاكاجي واكيتا رئيس المعهد الوطني للأمراض المعدية باليابان، في إفادة للصحفيين، إن السلالة الجديدة اكتشفت لدى أربعة مسافرين قادمين من البرازيل، وإنها تختلف عن السلالتين اللتين اكتشفتا لأول مرة في بريطانيا وجنوب إفريقيا.
يذكر أن العدد الإجمالي لحالات الإصابة بفيروس كورونا /كوفيد – 19/ في اليابان وصل حتى الآن إلى 283385 حالة، فيما بلغ عدد الوفيات 4035 شخصا.
وأعلن السيد سوغا يوشيهيديه رئيس الوزراء الياباني أمس الأول /الجمعة/ إعلان حالة الطوارئ في العاصمة طوكيو وثلاث مدن لمواجهة تفشي فيروس كورونا /كوفيد-19/.
وشملت حالة الطوارئ محافظات /طوكيو وكاناغاوا وسايتما وتشيبا/، وتستمر حتى السابع من فبراير المقبل.
وتمنح حالة الطوارئ المحافظين السلطة القانونية لحث المواطنين على التعاون مع جهود منع تفشي العدوى.
