A fast Coronavirus test ends quarantine

Doha: The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has begun work to establish a new system to detect infection with the Coronavirus, as an alternative to mandatory quarantine, in order to contribute to reviving the aviation industry, which the epidemic has entered into an unprecedented recession.

Clifford pointed out that the cost of the test will likely be less than the equivalent of nine euros, stressing that the risk of infection for passengers is “very low” as airlines conduct a comprehensive sterilization of aircraft, and said that the chances of passengers contracting the virus are about one in 27 million.

Clifford indicated that the Air Transport Association forecast last June regarding airline losses due to the epidemic was around eighty billion euros, but that this number may rise further because the market has not yet resumed its activity as the aviation industry had hoped.

وكانت سنغافورة وهونغ كونغ اتفقتا الأسبوع الماضي على فتح حدودهما المشتركة، وذلك لأول مرة منذ سبعة أشهر، وأوقفتا العمل بنظام الحجر الصحي الذي كان مفروضاً تطبيقه على الأشخاص المتنقلين بين البلدين، الأمر الذي يساهم في تنشيط الأعمال الاقتصادية بين أبرز مركزين ماليين في آسيا..

ولفت كليفورد إلى أن تكلفة الاختبار ستكون على الأرجح أقل مما يعادل تسعة يوروهات، مؤكداً على أن خطر إصابة الركاب بالعدوى “منخفض للغاية” إذ تقوم شركات الطيران بإجراء تعقيم شامل للطائرات، وقال إن فرص إصابة الركاب بالفيروس تبلغ حوالي واحد من كل 27 مليونًا.

كليفورد أشار إلى أن توقعات اتحاد النقل الجوي في شهر يونيو الماضي بشأن خسائر شركات الطيران جراء الوباء كانت بحدود ثمانين مليار يورو، غير أن هذا الرقم قد يرتفع أكثر لأن السوق لم يعاود بعد نشاطه كما كانت صناعة الطيران تأمل.
