New drug that prevents viral replication of Coronavirus discovered

Doha: A Chinese study revealed that the drug “Pralatrexate”, a chemotherapy drug that was originally developed to treat lymphoma, can be reused to treat Covid-19.
According to the British newspaper “Daily Mail”, the drug “Pralatrexate” is superior to “Remdesivir”, the leading anti-viral drug used to treat Coronavirus patients, in terms of strength in stopping the replication of the virus.
However, the study indicated that “Pralatrexate” may cause stressful side effects, such as fatigue, nausea, inflammation of the mucous membrane, inflammation and ulceration of the mucous membranes lining the digestive system, however, the researchers say that they can make some adjustments to the size and doses of the drug to reduce its side effects on Coronavirus patients.
The authors of the study, led by Dr. Haiping Zhang at Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, in China, say: “Determining effective drugs that can treat Coronavirus is important and urgent, especially approved drugs that can be tested immediately in clinical trials.”
He added: “Our study discovered that “Pralatrexate” is able to inhibit the reproduction of Coronavirus and inhibit its activity more strongly than “Remdesivir” under the same experimental conditions.”
Zhang and his team relied on artificial intelligence to determine the effectiveness of 1906 drugs, including “pralatrexate”, by simulating how they interact with Coronavirus, and their potential ability to prevent the virus from multiplying.
After that, researchers tested the drugs in several laboratory experiments, to prove that “Pralatrexate” strongly inhibited virus replication more than “Remdesivir”.
And clinical trials had shown that a five-day course of “Remdesivir” can speed up recovery in some Coronavirus patients.

واعتمد تشانغ وفريقه على الذكاء الصناعي لتحديد فعالية 1906 دواء، من بينهم “برالاتريكسات” من خلال محاكاة كيفية تفاعلهم مع كورونا، وقدرتهم المحتملة على منع تكاثر الفيروس.
وبعد ذلك اختبر الباحثون الأدوية في تجارب معملية عديدة، ليثبت برالاتريكسات أنه يثبط بشدة تكاثر الفيروس بشكل أكبر من ريمديسيفير.
وكانت التجارب السريرية قد أظهرت أن دورة العلاج لمدة خمسة أيام من ريمديسفير يمكن أن تسرّع أوقات الشفاء لدى بعض مرضى كورونا.
