London: A team of researchers at the University of Kent, Britain, has successfully adapted virtual reality technologies to hold remote meetings between patients who suffer from eating disorders and the specialized doctors who treat them.
The idea of this experiment, the results of which were published in the scientific journal Human Computer Interaction Journal, is based on the requirement that both patients and treating physicians wear face masks equipped with screens, and get acquainted with them in a virtual environment, and each participant in the experiment chooses the shape of the hypothetical model in which it appears Within the system, in the sense of body shape, size, skin and hair color, and other personal physical characteristics.
It allows patients participating in the trial to make a series of changes to their virtual bodies, through a range of settings, while expressing their feelings, thoughts and fears during the treatment journey. Participants in the experiment expressed their belief that not feeling afraid of being judged during actual physician interviews, helps them adhere to treatment goals.

لندن: نجح فريق من الباحثين بجامعة «كنت» البريطانية في تطويع تقنيات الواقع الافتراضي، من أجل عقد اجتماعات عن بُعد بين المرضى الذين يعانون من اضطرابات الغذاء والأطباء المتخصصين الذين يتولون علاجهم.
وتعتمد فكرة هذه التجربة التي نشرت نتائجها دورية «هيومان كمبيوتر إنتر أكشن جورنال» العلمية، على أن يرتدي كل من المرضى والأطباء المعالجين أقنعة وجه مزودة بشاشات، وأن يتم التعارف بينهم في محيط افتراضي، ويقوم كل مشارك في التجربة باختيار شكل النموذج الافتراضي الذي يظهر به داخل المنظومة، بمعنى شكل الجسم والحجم ولون البشرة والشعر، وغير ذلك من المواصفات الجسمانية الشخصية.
ويسمح للمرضى المشاركين في التجربة بإجراء سلسلة من التغيرات على أجسامهم الافتراضية، من خلال مجموعة من الإعدادات، مع التعبير عما يكتنفهم من مشاعر وأفكار ومخاوف خلال رحلة العلاج.
وأعرب المشاركون في التجربة عن اعتقادهم أن عدم شعورهم بالخوف من إمكانية إصدار أحكام عليهم أثناء المقابلات الفعليّة مع الطبيب، يساعدهم على الالتزام بالأهداف العلاجية.
