West Industrial Street now fully open to traffic

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced the opening of the last phase of West Industrial Street, which stretches from Street 33 in the Industrial Area to G-Ring Road.

The opening is part of Ashghal’s efforts to develop roads and infrastructure within Doha Industrial Area (DIA), the authority has said in a statement

Ahmed al-Obaidly, head of the Southern Areas Projects Section at Ashghal’s Roads Projects Department, said the final phase of West Industrial Street’s development work was completed one month earlier than the planned opening date.

He noted that the authority had announced in December 2017 the opening of the first phase of the street, which extends from Salwa Road to Street 33.

With the completion of the last phase, West Industrial Street provides connectivity between north and south Doha, linking the north of Doha from Salwa Road to G-Ring Road that leads to Orbital Highway.

Al-Obaidly explained that West Industrial Street would also serve traffic heading to the New Industrial Area through Street 41, as well as facilitating access to more than 1,030 commercial plots and 400 residential plots in the Industrial Area.

The last phase of West Industrial Street included the construction of a 2.5km road with four lanes in each direction, taking the total length of the road developed under phases 1 and 2 to around 5.8km.

This was in addition to constructing a signal-controlled intersection at West Industrial Street’s intersection with Street 41, a roundabout at the street’s intersection with Street 47, and three pedestrian crossings with traffic lights. Some 110 parking spaces were also provided as part of the project, raising the total number of parking lots along West Industrial Street to 477.

As for the safety of road users, lighting poles, safety signs and road markings were installed along the street to ensure the safety of pedestrians and drivers.

The development of West Industrial Street is part of the first and second packages of the Roads and Infrastructure Development Project in Doha Industrial Area, implemented by Ashghal, which has been divided into seven packages.

Package 2 is 91% complete and roads within this package are planned to be opened to traffic by the fourth quarter of 2018, the statement notes.

Package 2 of the DIA project includes developing a total of 40km of main roads, collective roads and local roads, and provides many benefits for DIA’s residents and visitors, including parking bays, a signal-controlled intersection, pedestrian crossings with traffic lights and street lighting.

This package also includes infrastructure development works according to the highest standards, including the construction of a 46km-long storm water and ground water drainage networks, including gully connections to solve the rainwater accumulation problem, and the construction of a 25km-long foul sewer drainage network.

This project also diverted and protected existing electricity cables, treated sewage effluent lines, potable water lines and telecommunications networks. It also provided civil works for Intelligent Transportation Systems.

افتتحت هيئة الأشغال العامة «أشغال»، المرحلة الأخيرة من شارع الصناعية الغربي أمام الحركة المرورية، وتمتد هذه المرحلة من شارع 33 بالمنطقة الصناعية حتى الطريق الدائري السابع، وذلك ضمن جهودها لتطوير الطرق والبنية التحتية في المنطقة الصناعية بالدوحة.

أكد المهندس أحمد العبيدلي -رئيس قسم مشاريع المناطق الجنوبية في إدارة مشاريع الطرق في «أشغال»- أن إنجاز المرحلة الأخيرة من أعمال تطوير شارع الصناعية الغربي، تم قبل شهر كامل من تاريخ الافتتاح الموضوع بالخطة. وأضاف في تصريح بهذه المناسبة: بإنجاز المرحلة الأخيرة، يصبح شارع الصناعية الغربي نقطة الوصل بين شمال وجنوب الدوحة، حيث يربط بين شمال الدوحة من شارع سلوى إلى الطريق الدائري السابع، والذي يؤدي إلى الطريق المداري.

وأوضح المهندس أحمد العبيدلي أن شارع الصناعية الغربي يخدم الحركة المرورية المتجهة إلى المنطقة الصناعية الجديدة، من خلال شارع 41، فضلاً عن تسهيل الوصول إلى أكثر من 1030 وحدة تجارية، و400 وحدة سكنية في المنطقة الصناعية. وقد شملت أعمال المرحلة الأخيرة من شارع الصناعية الغربي، إنشاء طريق بأربعة مسارات في كل اتجاه، وبطول 2.5 كيلومتر، وبذلك يصبح الطول الإجمالي للشارع المطّور ضمن المرحلتين الأولى والثانية حوالي 5.8 كيلومتر.

وتم إنشاء إشارات مرورية عند تقاطع شارع الصناعية الغربي مع شارع 41، بالإضافة إلى إنشاء دوار عند تقاطعه مع شارع 47، كما تم إنجاز 3 ممرات عبور للمشاة بإشارات مرورية، وتوفير 110 مواقف للسيارات ضمن هذا الجزء من المشروع، ليصبح إجمالي عدد مواقف السيارات على طول شارع الصناعية الغربي 477 موقفاً. وفيما يتعلق بسلامة مستخدمي الطريق، فقد تم توفير أعمدة إنارة على طول الشارع، وتركيب اللوحات الإرشادية والعلامات الأرضية، التي من شأنها الحفاظ على سلامة السائقين والمشاة.

يذكر أن أعمال تطوير شارع الصناعية الغربي هي جزء من الحزمتين الأولى والثانية من مشروع تطوير الطرق والبنية التحتية في المنطقة الصناعية بالدوحة، الذي تنفذه «أشغال»، والذي تم تقسيمه إلى سبع حزم. وقد بلغت نسبة الإنجاز في الحزمة الثانية من المشروع 91 %، ومن المخطط افتتاح جميع الطرق ضمن هذه الحزمة للحركة المرورية في الربع الأخير من 2018.

تشمل الحزمة الثانية من مشروع المنطقة الصناعية بالدوحة، تطوير إجمالي 40 كيلومتراً من الطرق الرئيسية والمحلية التجميعية، بالإضافة إلى توفير العديد من المزايا والخدمات لسكان ومرتادي المنطقة، مثل إنشاء تقاطع بإشارات ضوئية، وتقاطعات للمشاة بإشارات ضوئية، وتوفير مواقف السيارات، وأعمدة الإنارة.

كما تشمل هذه الحزمة أعمالاً واسعة لتطوير البنية التحتية، وفق أعلى المواصفات، شملت إنشاء شبكات تصريف المياه السطحية والجوفية بطول حوالي 46 كيلومتراً، لحل مشكلة تجمع مياه الأمطار، وإنشاء شبكة للصرف الصحي بطول 25 كيلومتراً. هذا بالإضافة إلى تحويل وحماية كابلات الكهرباء، وخطوط شبكة مياه الصرف المعالجة القائمة، وخطوط مياه الشرب، وشبكات الاتصالات، والقيام بالأعمال المدنية لشبكات النقل الذكي والاتصالات.;
