Qatar to Celebrate World Population Day

Doha: The State of Qatar, along with various countries of the world, will celebrate today, Sunday, the World Population Day, which falls on July 11 of each year, and comes amid the conditions of the Coronavirus pandemic for the second year in a row.
The Permanent Population Committee said, in a statement, that the celebration of this day aims primarily to remind all segments of society about population issues and their importance, in addition to promoting community awareness of population-related issues and highlighting issues of family planning, gender equality, combating poverty, improving maternal health and human rights.
The Permanent Population Committee pointed out that this celebration coincided, for the second year in a row, with the continuing outbreak of the Coronavirus (Covid-19), which led to great economic, social and health repercussions that affected various countries of the world, especially the poorest countries, which do not have the health infrastructure or sufficient resources to confront this pandemic.
The Committee noted that despite the repercussions of the virus globally, the State of Qatar is one of the few countries in the world that has been able to deal with this pandemic thanks to the strong health system that provides the best preventive and curative health services to the country’s population.
The Permanent Population Committee pointed out that the population policy of the State of Qatar 2017-2022 stressed the need to improve the public health of the population and provide its services in line with the increase in population and its geographical distribution.
The population policy seeks to achieve a balance between population growth and the requirements of sustainable development, in order to ensure a decent life for the residents of the State of Qatar, improve their capabilities, and enhance opportunities for participation in advancing the development and progress of Qatari society.
The Permanent Population Committee plays the role entrusted with it in following up the national efforts aimed at achieving the goals and objectives of the population policy document and its specific measures aimed at controlling the rate of population growth, and reducing the imbalance of the population structure of the state and its repercussions, in cooperation with governmental and non-governmental agencies and institutions.

الدوحة: تحتفل دولة قطر، إلى جانب دول العالم المختلفة، اليوم، باليوم العالمي للسكان الموافق 11 يوليو من كل عام، والذي يأتي وسط ظروف جائحة كورونا (كوفيد-19) للعام الثاني على التوالي.
وأوضحت اللجنة الدائمة للسكان، في بيان، أن الاحتفال بهذا اليوم يهدف في المقام الأول إلى تذكير كل فئات المجتمع بالقضايا السكانية وأهميتها، إلى جانب تعزيز التوعية المجتمعية بالقضايا المتعلقة بالسكان وتسليط الضوء على قضايا تنظيم الأسرة والمساواة بين الجنسين ومكافحة الفقر وتحسين صحة الأمهات وحقوق الإنسان.
وأشارت إلى تزامن هذا الاحتفال، وللسنة الثانية على التوالي، مع استمرار تفشي فيروس كورونا (كوفيد-19) الذي أدى إلى تداعيات اقتصادية واجتماعية وصحية كبيرة أثرت على مختلف بلدان العالم، ولاسيما البلدان الأشد فقرا، والتي لا تمتلك البنية التحتية الصحية أو الموارد الكافية لمواجهة هذه الجائحة.
ونوهت إلى أنه بالرغم من تداعيات الفيروس عالميا، إلا أن دولة قطر تعد واحدة من بلدان العالم القليلة التي تمكنت من التعامل مع هذا الوباء باقتدار بفضل النظام الصحي القوي الذي يقدم أفضل الخدمات الصحية الوقائية والعلاجية لسكان الدولة.
ولفتت اللجنة الدائمة للسكان إلى أن السياسية السكانية لدولة قطر 2017 – 2022 شددت على ضرورة الارتقاء بالصحة العامة للسكان وتوفير خدماتها بما يتماشى مع زيادة عدد السكان وتوزعهم الجغرافي.
وتسعى السياسة السكانية لتحقيق التوازن بين النمو السكاني ومتطلبات التنمية المستدامة، بما يضمن حياة كريمة لسكان دولة قطر، ويرتقي بقدراتهم، وتعزيز فرص المشاركة في دفع عجلة التنمية وتقدم المجتمع القطري.
وتقوم اللجنة الدائمة للسكان، بالدور المنوط بها في متابعة الجهود الوطنية الرامية إلى تحقيق أهداف وغايات وثيقة السياسة السكانية وما تتضمنه من إجراءات محددة تهدف إلى ضبط معدل النمو السكاني، والحد من اختلال التركيبة السكانية للدولة وتداعياته، بالتعاون مع الأجهزة والمؤسسات الحكومية وغير الحكومية.
يشار إلى أن مناسبة اليوم العالمي للسكان واحدة من مخرجات برنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي، والتي تم الإعلان عنها لأول مرة في عام 1989، وقررت الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة في ديسمبر 1990، مواصلة الاحتفال بتلك المناسبة بما يعزز الوعي بقضايا السكان وعلاقتهم بالبيئة والتنمية.
