عهدت دولة قطر ممثلة في صندوق قطر للتنمية بتقديم دعم مالي بمبلغ 20 مليون دولار أمريكي، لصالح الأزمة الإنسانية في اليمن
Doha: The State of Qatar, represented by Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) pledged $20m in financial support to alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the brotherly Yemeni people.
This came during a meeting held in Geneva yesterday, organised by the United Nations in cooperation with the Governments of Switzerland and Sweden, and in which Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, and a number of politicians and high-level officials, participated to mobilise resources and to announce the volume of donations to help and alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people.
On this occasion, the Director General of (QFFD), Khalifa bin Jassim Al Kuwari, praised the efforts exerted by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people.
Al Kuwari pointed out that the Qatari financial commitment comes within the framework of supporting the inter-agency 2018 Yemen Humanitarian Response Plan. He called for the need for friendly countries to respond to the suffering of the brotherly people of Yemen, and added that this crisis is a great humanitarian catastrophe not only in the Middle East, but in the entire world.
The United Nations and its humanitarian agencies working on the ground in Yemen have appealed to donors to provide $2.96bn in funding to support the basic sectors of food security, health, water, sanitation and protection, as the bloody conflict in Yemen left 22 million people in desperate need of humanitarian assistance and protection.
جاء ذلك خلال مناسبة عقدت يوم امس في قصر الامة بالعاصمة جنيف، بحضور رفيع المستوى للمانحين وبتنظيم كل من الأمم المتحدة و حكومة كل من سويسرا و السويد، وبمشاركة سعادة السيد أنطونيو غوتيريس الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة وعدد من السياسيين والمسؤولين رفيعي المستوى في كلا البلدين، والتي جاءت لحشد الموارد والإعلان عن حجم التبرعات التي ستخصص لمساعدة الشعب اليمني الشقيق لرفع المعاناة التي يتعرض لها.
وبهذه المناسبة أشاد السيد خليفة بن جاسم الكواري مدير عام صندوق قطر للتنمية بالجهود التي يبذلها مكتب الأمم المتحدة لتنسيق الشؤون الإنسانية لرفع المعاناة التي يتعرض لها الشعب اليمني.
وأشار الكواري إلى أن دولة قطر أعلنت عن تعهدها بتقديم 20 مليون دولار أمريكي دعماً لخطة الاستجابة العاجلة لليمن والمشتركة بين الوكالات لعام 2018، داعيا الى ضرورة استجابة دول العالم الصديقة والمحبة للسلام لوقف معاناة الشعب اليمني الشقيق.. وقال إن هذه الأزمة كارثة إنسانية كبيرة ليس في الشرق الاوسط فحسب بل العالم بأسره”.
يذكر أن الأمم المتحدة ووكالاتها الإنسانية العاملة على الأرض في اليمن قد وجهت نداء إلى الجهات المانحة من أجل توفير تمويل تصل قيمته إلى 2.96 مليار دولار أمريكي، وذلك لدعم القطاعات الأساسية، وهي قطاع الأمن الغذائي والصحة والمياة والإصحاح والحماية، حيث أدى النزاع الدامي في اليمن الى دمار كبير، مخلفاً وراءه عدد 22 مليون شخص بحاجة ماسة إلى المساعدات الإنسانية والحماية.
ويعاني حوالي 8.4 مليون شخص في اليمن من انعدام الأمن الغذائي الحاد وشبح المجاعة، اضافة إلى التحديات والقيود الشديدة المفروضة على الموانئ لوصول المساعدات إلى مستحقيها.
