Fireworks display to light up Katara tonight

A spectacular fireworks show themed on maritime traditions will illuminate the Katara skyline tonight as a major highlight of the eighth Katara Traditional Dhow Festival, which opened on Tuesday.
Visitors at Katara can enjoy the fireworks show from 8pm to 8.20pm tonight and the same time tomorrow.
“It is not a normal fireworks show. It is woven around a theme that tells the story of fishing, diving and fighting in the sea,” said Jihad Al Jaida, a member of the organising committee.
A large number of children from various schools across Qatar thronged the Katara beach yesterday morning to have a feel of the sea-related customs and traditions showcased in a variety of stalls and exhibitions.
They also enthusiastically took part in a painting and drawing competition dedicated for children being held at Katara beach. One of the dhows anchored at the beach is offering free cruise for children.
More than 70 traditional dhows and vessels of different types and sizes have anchored at the Katara beach for the five-day Festival. Fateh Al Khair, the famous Qatari dhow has put up a painting exhibition for visitors.
“This time we have designed the marina in a U-shape so that everyone can see the dhows from any place in the beach,” said Al Jaida.
An exhibition dedicated for famous Qatari artist Yusuf Al Sada has also been set up on the sidelines of the Festival. The exhibition features around 200 photographs of Al Sada, along with artworks and crafts related to sea traditions.
Other features of the festival are a traditional market with marine products, stalls of participating countries showcasing cuisine and sea traditions, traditional maritime competitions and shows, art contest and a cultural cafe.

احتشد عدد كبير من الأطفال من مختلف المدارس في قطر بشاطئ كتارا صباح أمس ليشعروا بالعادات والتقاليد المتعلقة بالبحر والتي عرضت في مجموعة متنوعة من الأكشاك والمعارض. كما شاركوا بحماس في مسابقة للرسم والرسم مخصصة للأطفال في شاطئ كتارا.
واحدة من المراكب الشراعية الراسية على الشاطئ تقدم رحلات بحرية مجانية للأطفال. وقد رست أكثر من 70 سفينة شراعية ومراكب تقليدية من مختلف الأنواع والأحجام على شاطئ كتارا في المهرجان الذي يستغرق خمسة أيام.
أقامت فاتح الخير ، القوارب الشراعية القطرية الشهيرة ، معرضا للرسومات للزائرين.
“هذه المرة قمنا بتصميم المرسى في شكل حرف U بحيث يمكن للجميع رؤية المراكب الشراعية من أي مكان في الشاطئ” ، قال Al Jaida. كما أقيم معرض مخصص للفنان القطري الشهير يوسف السادة على هامش المهرجان.
يضم المعرض حوالي 200 صورة فوتوغرافية لـ السادة ، بالإضافة إلى الأعمال الفنية والحرف المرتبطة بالتقاليد البحرية. ومن السمات الأخرى للمهرجان سوق تقليدي يضم منتجات بحرية وأكشاك من الدول المشاركة تعرض مأكولات وتقاليد البحار ومسابقات وعروض بحرية تقليدية ومسابقة فنية ومقهى ثقافي.
