Hackers Steal Pfizer/Biontech Covid-19 Vaccine Data

London: US drugmaker Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech said on Wednesday that documents related to development of their COVID-19 vaccine had been “unlawfully accessed” in a cyberattack on Europe’s medicines regulator.

Pfizer and BioNTech said in a joint statement that they did not believe any personal data of trial participants had been compromised and EMA “has assured us that the cyber attack will have no impact on the timeline for its review.”

For its part, the European Medicines Agency (EMA), which assesses medicines and vaccines for the European Union, said hours earlier it had been targeted in a cyberattack. It gave no further details.

It was not immediately clear when or how the attack took place, who was responsible or what other information may have been compromised.

A few days ago, Britain began the vaccination process with the Pfizer and BioNTech vaccine among the elderly and health workers, while the health authorities in Canada announced today that they have given the green light to start using this vaccine to combat the spread of the virus.

من جهتها، أكدت الوكالة الأوروبية لتقييم الأدوية واللقاحات والموافقة عليها، في بيان، أنه تم استهدافها بهجوم إلكتروني، دون أن تقدم المزيد من التفاصيل عن العملية، أو تكشف عن هوية منفذي عملية القرصنة هذه.

ولم يتضح بعد كيف ومتى وقع الهجوم، ومن الجهة المسؤولة عن ذلك، وما إذا كانت قد سرقت أي معلومات أخرى عن اللقاح الجديد.

جدير بالذكر أن بريطانيا شرعت منذ أيام قليلة في عملية تطعيم فئة من مجتمعها بلقاح /فايزر/ و/بيونتك/ شملت كبار السن والعاملين بالقطاع الصحي، قبل أن تعلن السلطات الصحية في كندا اليوم أنها أعطت الضوء الأخضر للبدء في استخدام هذا اللقاح للتصدي لانتشار الفيروس .
