How to obtain exceptional entry permit when travelling out of Qatar

Doha: Two weeks ago, Qatar announced that residents travelling out of Qatar will automatically get an exceptional entry permit — which is required for re-entry — as they leave the country.

The travellers can print the permit from the Ministry of Interior’s website anytime before their return, instead of having to apply throug the Qatar Portal website. This rule came into force on November 29 and residents who were outside of Qatar before the rule change will still need to apply to return through the Qatar Portal website.

If you are travelling out, here are the steps you need to take to obtain an automatic exceptional entry permit:

• Visit the Ministry of Interior website 
• Click on “Inquiries”, then “Exit & Entry Permits and then “Print Exceptional Return Permit”
• Fill in the details  and print your exceptional entry permit

According to the Government Communications Office, the quarantine period upon return to Qatar will be for a week, regardless of the destination. Home quarantine will be applied to those coming from countries on the Ministry of Public Health’s Green List. Hotel quarantine is mandatory for those coming from countries that are not included in the Green List. The quarantine period for those who use shared quarantine facilities will be two weeks. The decision is based on national and international epidemiology statistics.

Based on these new procedures, a Coronavirus (COVID-19) test will be conducted for those returning from travel upon arrival to the country in the event they haven’t had a test within 48 hours before traveling to Doha by one of Ministry of Public Health’s accredited COVID-19 Testing Centers.

Then a second test will be conducted on the sixth day from the date of arrival. The status on the Ehteraz application remain yellow until the end of the seventh day from the date of arrival.
