ICRC President Praises QRCS Coronavirus Control Efforts Locally and Internationally

Doha: HE President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer praised the efforts of Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) in containing the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The ICRC President and his accompanying delegation visited Monday the headquarters of Qatar Red Crescent where he was welcomed by HE President of Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) Sheikh Abdullah bin Thamer Al Thani.
The ICRC President congratulated HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Thamer Al Thani on his election as President of QRCS, stressing the keenness on intensifying cooperation and partnership with QRCS and commended its contributions to the coronavirus control efforts both locally and internationally.
Maurer particularly emphasized the growing role of volunteers during the crisis, saying: “This experience is a perfect example for other National Societies to consider, in order to see how QRCS managed the crisis so competently”.
The ICRC President showed willingness to work together with QRCS on the post-COVID-19 vaccination activities. According to him, all available resources are aligned to launch joint humanitarian operations in conflict zones. Both QRCS and IRCS have presence in Yemen, Somalia, Afghanistan, and many other countries.
For his part, the QRCS President valued the visit of Maurer and his praise of the volunteers, which coincided with the International Volunteer Day, stressing that the QRCS is open to any initiatives that serve the universally embraced humanitarian goals.
The two sides agreed on expanding their partnership, which was described as fruitful, solid, and growing over the years in Ethiopia, Sudan, and other regions, seeking effective solutions for such humanitarian crises.
They also agreed to further consolidate the channels of mutual communication and to have these issues discussed by their respective experts, towards a road map to bilateral humanitarian collaboration in the future.

جاء ذلك إثر زيارة قام بها سعادة السيد ماورير، اليوم، إلى مقر الهلال الأحمر القطري رحّب فيها سعادة الشيخ عبدالله بن ثامر آل ثاني رئيس مجلس إدارة الهلال الأحمر القطري، برئيس اللجنة الدولية للصليب الأحمر والوفد المرافق له، والذي هنأ سعادته على انتخابه رئيسا لمجلس إدارة الهلال الأحمر القطري.
وأبدى ماورير الرغبة في تكثيف التعاون والشراكة مع الهلال الأحمر القطري، كما أثنى على ما قدمه في مكافحة أزمة فيروس كورونا /كوفيد – 19/ محليا ودوليا، ونوه بالأخص إلى الدور المتزايد للمتطوعين خلال الأزمة، قائلا: “هذه التجربة جديرة بالدراسة كي تستفيد الجمعيات الوطنية الأخرى من النجاح الذي حققه الهلال الأحمر القطري كجمعية وطنية في تسيير الأزمة”.
وقد أبدى رئيس اللجنة الدولية للصليب الأحمر، الاستعداد للعمل مع الهلال الأحمر القطري في عمليات التلقيح خلال مرحلة ما بعد أزمة /كوفيد – 19/، بالإضافة إلى تسخير كل الإمكانيات من أجل إطلاق برامج إنسانية مشتركة في المناطق المتضررة من النزاعات الداخلية، حيث يتواجد الهلال الأحمر القطري واللجنة الدولية في اليمن والصومال وأفغانستان وغيرها من البلدان ذات الاهتمام المشترك.
من جانبه، ثمّن رئيس مجلس إدارة الهلال الأحمر القطري زيارة ماورير، وإشادته بالمتطوعين التي تتزامن مع اليوم العالمي للتطوع، مؤكدا انفتاح الهلال الأحمر القطري على أي مبادرة من شأنها تحقيق الأهداف الإنسانية الاستراتيجية التي يعمل الجميع من أجلها.
واتفق الجانبان على ضرورة توسيع التعاون والشراكة التي وصفاها بالشراكة المثمرة والقوية والمتزايدة عبر السنين في بعض المناطق كإثيوبيا والسودان وغيرهما، من أجل اجتراح حلول إنسانية فاعلة لهذه الأزمات.
كما تم الاتفاق على فتح قنوات للتواصل والعمل في كل هذه الملفات بين الخبراء والمختصين من الجانبين، كي تتم بلورة خريطة طريق للتعاون بينهما في العمل الإنساني مستقبلا.
