QU’s Young Scientists Center Bags 6 Prizes at International Exhibition in Malaysia

Doha: Qatar University’s (QU) Young Scientists Center won six international prizes at the International Invention, Innovation & Technology Exhibition in Malaysia (ITEX), organized in cooperation with the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations and the Institute of Engineering and Technology. This achievement, which represents the State of Qatar and Qatar University, was achieved in a strong competition that included 250 entries.
Sarah Al Obaidly, a student at the College of Engineering, and Maryam Al Kuwari, a student in the College of Arts and Sciences at Qatar University, affiliated with the I am a Researcher program won the gold medal and an award in the “Top Three of Excellence” category. For a project titled “Functionalized polymer membrane for wastewater treatment, whose importance lies in purifying water from impurities.
High school students Tamim Al Rashed and Youssef Al-Mahmoud Qatar Banking Studies and Business Administration school, won the gold medal for a project titled Hydrogel sensor for Agricultural Applications that aims to improve soil properties and fertility. In addition to, Abdullah Al Janahi and Abdullah Al Nasr students in Qatar Science and Technology school won the gold medal for a project entitled Intelligent and Robust Composite Nanofibers for the Autonomy of Electronic Devices.
As for the preparatory stage, Ahmed Majed and Ahmed Salama from Al Kaaban preparatory school for boys won a bronze medal and an award in the “Top Three of Excellence” category for a project titled Covid-19 pandemic inspired at home innovation: Through an unconventional remote educational model executed by the Qatar University Young Scientists Center (YSC). This project demonstrates the novel and effective educational methods applied by the center to face the challenges of distance learning and to ensure students learn in a way that stimulates creativity and innovation.
Director of the Young Scientists Center Dr. Noora Al-Thani expressed her pride in the students’ achievements in projects and research that are distinguished by their novelty and quality. She also encourage the students to participate in the international competitions for their benefit in providing the necessary expertise to develop projects and inventions. It is also a great opportunity to represent the State of Qatar globally and to highlight its scientific and research outcomes.
Dr. Nora praises the role of the Ras Laffan Industrial City Community Outreach Program, the program that supports the center in achieving the directions and strategies of the State of Qatar in the areas of education and human development to build a knowledge-based economy. She also thanked the center’s partners, namely UNESCO, the Doha Office, and the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science.

الدوحة: فاز مركز جامعة قطر للعلماء الشباب بست جوائز عالمية في المعرض الدولي للاختراع والابتكار والتكنولوجيا بماليزيا /ITEX/، والذي نظم مؤخرا عن بعد وخصص لطلبة المدارس والجامعات.
وفازت طالبتان من جامعة قطر، سارة العبيدلي من كلية الهندسة ومريم الكواري من كلية الآداب والعلوم، المنتسبات لبرنامج /أنا باحث/ بالمركز، بالميدالية الذهبية، وجائزة أخرى في فئة /الثلاثة الأوائل في التميز/ وذلك عن مشروع بعنوان /غشاء بوليمر وظيفي لمعالجة المياه الذي تكمن أهميته في تنقية المياه من الشوائب/.
وعن المرحلة الثانوية، فاز الطالبان تميم الراشد ويوسف المحمود من مدرسة قطر للعلوم المصرفية وإدارة الأعمال، بالميدالية الذهبية عن مشروع بعنوان /مستشعرات ذكية باستخدام هايدروجيل للتطبيقات الزراعية يهدف إلى تحسين خصائص وخصوبة التربة/.
كما فاز الطالبان عبد الله الجناحي وعبدالله النصر من مدرسة قطر للعلوم والتكنولوجيا، بالميدالية الذهبية عن مشروع بعنوان /ألياف نانوية مركبة ذكية وقوية من أجل التشغيل الذاتي للأجهزة الإلكترونية/.
أما عن المرحلة الإعدادية، فقد فاز الطالبان أحمد ماجد وأحمد سلامة من مدرسة الكعبان الإعدادية للبنين، بالميدالية البرونزية وجائزة في فئة /الثلاثة الأوائل في التميز /عن مشروع بعنوان /نموذج غير تقليدي للتعلم عن بعد مستوحى من جائحة كورونا/ تحت اشراف مركز جامعة قطر للعلماء الشباب.
وقالت جامعة قطر، في بيان، إن هذا الفوز جاء بالرغم من المنافسة الدولية القوية حيث تنافس 250 مشروعا في المسابقة ، مضيفة أن الطلبة المنتسبين لبرامج المركز تقدموا بمشاريع وأبحاث تم تطويرها والعمل عليها في معامل جامعة قطر وباستخدام أحدث الأجهزة ووسائل البحث.
وأعربت الدكتورة نورة آل ثاني، مدير مركز جامعة قطر للعلماء الشباب، عن فخرها بما حققه الطلبة من نجاح من مشاريع وأبحاث تتميز بحداثتها وجودتها، وقالت إن هذا النجاح يشير إلى وعي الطلبة بأهمية تسخير العلم وتقصي الأسئلة وتفسيرها وإيجاد حل هندسي للمشاكل والتحديات باستخدام الطرق العلمية أو الهندسية أو التكنولوجية.
وأكدت حرص المركز على توفير البيئة الداعمة للطلاب وتشجيعهم على المشاركات الدولية لإكسابهم الخبرات اللازمة لتطوير المشاريع والاختراعات وتمثيل دولة قطر عالميا لإبراز نتاجها العلمي والبحثي.
ويقدم المعرض الدولي للاختراع والابتكار والتكنولوجيا بماليزيا /ITEX/، فرصة فريدة لجميع المخترعين المشاركين للحصول على الاعتراف باختراعاتهم، وعرض مشاريعهم المبتكرة، وكذلك التنافس عالميا عن طريق المنصة العالمية التي يوفرها المعرض.
