Over 60 Officers Injured in Protests against Security Law in France

Paris: French Interior Minister Gerard Darmanin said Sunday that 67 officers were injured during the protests which broke out across France against a planned security law.

In Paris, the site of the worst violence, 48 police officers or gendarmes were injured during street clashes, the French Interior Ministry said on Twitter. A firefighter was also injured in the capital after being hit by a projectile, a police source said.

It was the second weekend of violence in the capital during protests against a security bill currently going through French parliament.

Demonstrators clashed with police, vehicles were set alight and shop windows smashed.

Over 52 thousands people took part in the nationwide protests which included clashes with the police and riots and the arrest of 95 people.

The protest also comes days after the French government said it would revise the controversial Article 24 of the proposed Security Act, which would limit the right to take video recordings of police officers.

Activists demand this passage be deleted completely. The draft law also includes a number of other controversial measures, such as the expansion of video surveillance by the police during demonstrations and with the help of drones. The government says the proposed legislation will better protect the police.

باريس: أعلن جيرالد دارمانان وزير الداخلية الفرنسي، يوم الأمس، إصابة 67 عنصرا من قوات الأمن ، 48 منهم في باريس، خلال المظاهرات التي اندلعت تنديدا بقانون “الأمن الشامل”.

وقال الوزير في تغريدة له إن باريس شهدت أعمال الشغب الأشدّ، وقد أصيب 48 شرطيا ودركيا بجروح، منددا بمن وصفهم “بالمخربين الذين يهدّمون الجمهورية”. وذكر دارمانان أن المظاهرات التي شارك فيها أكثر من 52 ألفا شهدت صدامات بين الشرطة والمتظاهرين، كما تخللتها أعمال شغب، وأوقف خلالها 95 شخصا.

وتأتي التظاهرات التي تشهدها مدن فرنسية احتجاجا على قانون” الأمن الشامل” الذي تبرز ثلاثة بنود منه تتعلق بنشر صور ومقاطع فيديو لعناصر الشرطة أثناء أداء عملهم، واستخدام قوات الأمن للطائرات المسيرة ولكاميرات المراقبة.

وكان البرلمان الفرنسي قد أقر في 20 نوفمبر الماضي تعديلا على القانون من شأنه تجريم نشر صور رجال الشرطة أثناء عملهم بنية الإضرار بـ”سلامتهم الجسدية أو النفسية”.
