Ashghal inspects safety measures in project sites and labour accommodations

As part of the preventive and precautionary measures implemented by the Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ to limit the spread of the COVID-19), Ashghal has intensified its efforts to inspect the workers’ accommodation and project sites.
These efforts are part of Ashghal’s commitment to effectively manage and respond to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) disruption, while continuing to provide essential road and drainage services to the communities in Qatar.
Ashghal, in collaboration with its contractors, has taken further health and safety measures, especially on project sites to enable the continuity of its core operations whilst ensuring the health and safety of its staff. The health and safety teams are conducting ongoing inspections of labour accommodations and welfare facilities to ensure stringent health and safety measures are applied against coronavirus outbreak.
In an aim to improve on-site worker’s welfare standards, Ashghal has carried out the Worker’s Welfare Compliance Audit in various locations. The audits were conducted to ensure that all contractors and sub-contractors are complying with the requirements set out in the contractual documents and are abiding by the relevant Qatari laws.
The most important measures that are taken in all workplaces and accommodations include temperature monitoring (effective since the beginning of March 2020), cleaning & sanitising staff transport buses twice daily (morning/evening).
This is in addition to mandatory cleaning and sanitisation of all handrails, doorknobs and handles and any other associated items that come into contact with the human hand.
Moreover, all recreational or social gatherings and sports events have been suspended until further notice.
The audit team also made sure that all necessary toiletries, liquid soap dispensers and hand dryers were provided in the workers’ accommodation. In addition to ensuring that all of the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) COVID-19 informative posters are clearly displayed on sites, to raise awareness on the essential precautionary measures.
قامت هيئة الأشغال العامة «أشغال» بتكثيف جهود التفتيش على سكن العمال ومواقع العمل، ضمن الإجراءات الوقائية والاحترازية التي تتخذها للحد من انتشار فيروس كورونا (كوفيد- 19).
تأتي تلك الجهود في إطار التزام «أشغال» بالتعامل مع الفيروس ومستجداته، مع الاستمرار في توفير كل الخدمات الأساسية للطرق والصرف الصحي للمجتمع.
كما اتخذت «أشغال» بالشراكة مع المقاولين العاملين معها مزيداً من تدابير الصحة والسلامة في مواقع المشاريع، لتمكين استمرارية أعمال التشغيل الأساسية مع ضمان صحة وسلامة الموظفين.
وتقوم فرق الصحة والسلامة بالتحقق من جميع تدابير الصحة والسلامة والبيئة لسكن العمال ومرافق الرعاية لضمان تطبيق أقصى إجراءات الصحة والسلامة للحد من انتشار الفيروس، وبهدف تحسين معايير الرعاية العمالية في المواقع.
وقامت «أشغال» أيضاً بتنفيذ عدة زيارات تدقيق للتأكد من الامتثال لتدابير الرعاية العمالية في مواقع العمل والسكن، وتم التأكد من امتثال جميع المقاولين والمقاولين من الباطن للمتطلبات المنصوص عليها في المستندات التعاقدية والالتزام بالقوانين القطرية ذات الصلة.
وتشمل أهم التدابير التي يتم اتخاذها في مختلف مواقع العمل والسكن قياس درجة حرارة العمال بشكل يومي (إجراء سارٍ منذ بداية الشهر الحالي)، وتنظيف وتعقيم حافلات نقل العاملين مرتين يومياً (صباحاً / مساءً)، والتنظيف والتعقيم الإلزامي لجميع المساند، ومقابض الأبواب وأي عناصر أخرى ذات صلة تتلامس مع اليد.
وتم تعليق جميع التجمعات الترفيهية والاجتماعية والفعاليات الرياضية داخل وخارج المواقع حتى إشعار آخر.
كما قام فريق عمل التدقيق بالتأكد من توافر كل أدوات النظافة اللازمة، وموزع الصابون السائل ومجفف اليد في دورات مياه سكن العمال، بالإضافة إلى وضع العديد من ملصقات وزارة الصحة العامة التي تحمل أهم المعلومات وطرق الوقاية من الفيروس.
