Germany Extends Partial Lockdown until Jan. 10

Berlin: Germany’s partial coronavirus lockdown is set to stretch into January – and could become significantly tougher if conditions don’t improve – said Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel on Wednesday after her latest meeting on the pandemic.

In an effort to control the spread of the disease, the country has been under a partial lockdown since Nov. 2. That will now be extended until Jan. 10.

“In principle, the situation is going to stay the way it is,” said Merkel after the videoconference, noting that Germany is “very far away” from manageable case number counts.

Bavarian Premier Markus Soeder said Germany’s leaders might have to consider toughening the lockdown rules.

“The question is whether we can keep the country in this kind of semi-consciousness – or if we don’t have to consider at some point taking a tougher and more focused approach in some areas.”

Germany has not reached that point yet, he said.

“But my sense is – and a lot of citizens are asking me – that we can’t shy away from this and, in the end, we will have to be forceful, and maybe be very forceful once than be somewhat forceful for a longer time.”

The Robert Koch Institute, the country’s infectious diseases agency, reported 487coronavirus deaths in the last 24 hours, a record for Germany.

برلين: أعلنت المستشارة الألمانية انجيلا ميركل تمديد الإغلاق الجزئي الساري في البلاد لاحتواء فيروس كورونا /كوفيد – 19/ حتى العاشر من يناير المقبل .

وقالت ميركل ،في تصريح عقب مشاورات أجرتها مع رؤساء حكومات الولايات، إن “الوضع مبدئيا سيبقى كما هو الآن”.

من جانبه، قال ماركوس زودر، رئيس حكومة بافاريا إن وضع كورونا لم يهدأ “بأي حال من الأحوال”، ورأى أن من الصواب تمديد الإغلاق الجزئي حتى العاشر من الشهر المقبل.

وبحسب بيانات معهد روبرت كوخ لأبحاث الفيروسات، فإن مكاتب الصحة في ألمانيا سجلت 487 حالة وفاة بكورونا، وهي أعلى حصيلة يومية لوفيات كوفيد19 منذ بدء الجائحة.

كما تتزايد أعداد المصابين بفيروس كورونا، ورغم التراجع الطفيف الذي تم تسجيله مؤخرا فإن الإغلاق الجزئي لم يحقق التأثير المرجو منه حتى الآن.

كانت الحكومة الاتحادية والولايات قررت في الاسبوع الماضي تمديد الإغلاق الجزئي الساري في البلاد منذ الثاني من نوفمبر الماضي.

يشار إلى أن عدد حالات الإصابة المؤكدة بفيروس كورونا المستجد في ألمانيا وصل إلى 09ر1 مليون حالة، فيما وصل عدد وفيات كورونا في ألمانيا إلى 17 ألفا و177 حالة، وعدد المتعافين من الفيروس إلى 769 ألفا و380 شخصا.
