Ministry of Interior, Qatar University Launch Traffic Safety Award

Doha: Under the patronage of HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al-Thani, the National Traffic Safety Committee and Qatar University launched on Sunday the “Traffic Safety Award”, in the framework of the tireless efforts aiming at enhancing community engagement to achieve the goals and objectives of the National Road Safety Strategy 2013-2022.

The target groups in the Traffic Safety Award include individuals, public and private institutions and educational institutions category. The award covers various initiatives, research and scientific, intellectual and technical innovations areas in the field of traffic safety.

Commenting on the occasion, President of Qatar University and member of the National Traffic Safety Committee Dr. Hassan bin Rashid Al Derham said that the award and other national programs will contribute to increasing awareness of traffic safety and to achieving a secure land transport system for all road users, in addition to encouraging all individuals to engage in the traffic safety system and motivating them to create new ideas that will enrich the road safety system.

He underlined that the State of Qatar has been able in recent years to improve and work to reduce traffic accidents to the point of competition from developed countries, thanks to the efforts of all sides, notably the General Directorate of Traffic and the National Traffic Safety Committee at the Ministry of Interior.

He added that all relevant structures have worked together and without exception, organizing awareness activities, events and campaigns within public and private institutions and educational institutions in order to demonstrate the seriousness of the lack of compliance with road safety and security procedures.

Dr. Al Derham noted that Qatar University, represented by Qatar Transport and Traffic Safety Center, was assigned by the National Traffic Safety Committee to carry out several measures, including the annual program of the Traffic Safety Award and creation of the Traffic Safety website of Qatar which were launched today.

For his part, Director-General and Second Deputy Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee Brigadier Mohammed Abdullah Al Shahwani underlined that the Ministry of Interior is determined to make all the traffic safety initiatives in the State of Qatar successful, and that the Directorate General of Traffic at the Ministry of the Interior has insisted on continuing to work to improve the traffic safety system in the State of Qatar.

“We are working together to achieve the United Nations goals for sustainable development endorsed by the State of Qatar, related to the development of road networks, transport services, congestion reduction, transport planning and land use. The country has also set a new world record in the reduction of traffic accidents,” he stressed.

“Despite the increase in the population, the increase in the number of vehicles and the increase in the number of driving licenses, the State of Qatar has exceeded all these challenges and has continued to reduce the death rate due to road accidents to a new record of the lowest (4.4 deaths per 100,000 persons), when compared to many Arab countries, as well as Western European countries, Southeast Asian countries, and North and South American countries,” he added.

“Today, we have launched the annual prize initiative for traffic safety to recognize the efforts of individuals and educational institutions by carrying out projects and ideas in the creative and spirit of youth that have always worked to find solutions to the problems that the traffic safety system still faces,” Brigadier Al Shahwani said.

Meanwhile, Secretary of the National Traffic Safety Committee Brigadier Engineer Mohammed Abdullah Al Malki said that the annual prize for traffic safety in the State of Qatar measures traffic awareness in all categories of the society, represented in scientific and engineering innovations, artistic and intellectual innovations, and adopt and execute projects with a tangible and sustainable impact in the field of traffic safety.

He added that the award also encourages the social responsibility of the private sector institutions of the State through the program of active partnership between the private and governmental sector to do more serious work to instill a traffic culture in society.

He explained that the award includes three categories, namely, the educational institutions, the individuals, and the governmental and private institutions, noting that the first category includes all educational levels from kindergartens and all schools, institutes, colleges and universities, where the best projects, initiatives, research, and scientific, intellectual and technical innovations in the field of road safety will be selected.

Brigadier Al Malki highlighted the achievements accomplished by implementing the action plans contained in the National Road Safety Strategy 2013-2022, adding that about 90% of the plans and projects of the strategy had been completed, which resulted in a significant decrease in traffic accident-related deaths to 4.4 per hundred thousand of the population, according to last years statistics.

For his part, Dr. Mohammad Yousef Al Qaradawi, Director of the Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Center, said, “In order to make this program a success and strive to upgrade the traffic safety system and encourage all individuals and government agencies with the aim of preserving human lives and property, valuable prizes have been allocated to everyone who contributes an innovative idea, project or an unprecedented new invention that serves the traffic safety system, contributes to spreading traffic awareness, and tries gradually to solve the problems facing the system”.

Dr. Nasser Abdulghani Al Abdulghani, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Abdullah Abdulghani & Bros. Co. (Toyota), which sponsors the Traffic Safety Award, said that the aim of this award is to promote best practices to protect road users and build a good framework to provide safety for all.

To complement the launch of the award, the Qatar Traffic Safety website www.roadsafety.qa was also launched during the ceremony. The website aims to collect and publish research studies and initiatives in the country as a national and global reference. It contains academic publications, reports, events and training workshops, in addition to traffic safety news.

الدوحة: تحت رعاية معالي الشيخ خالد بن خليفة بن عبدالعزيز آل ثاني رئيس مجلس الوزراء ووزير الداخلية، ورئيس اللجنة الوطنية للسلامة المرورية، احتفلت اللجنة وجامعة قطر اليوم بإطلاق جائزة السلامة المرورية، وذلك في إطار الجهود الدؤوبة لتعزيز المشاركة المجتمعية في سبيل تحقيق أهداف وغايات الاستراتيجية الوطنية للسلامة المرورية 2013-2022.

وتشمل الجائزة، التي تسعى إلى تشجيع المبادرات المجتمعية الفردية والمؤسسية لخدمة السلامة على الطرق، ثلاث فئات تتمثل في الأفراد، والمؤسسات العامة والخاصة، والمؤسسات التعليمية، وتغطي مجالات متنوعة مثل المبادرات الهندسية والفنية والفكرية والعلمية، إلى جانب المشاريع ذات الأثر الملموس والمستدام في مجال السلامة المرورية.

وفي كلمته بهذه المناسبة، قال الدكتور حسن بن راشد الدرهم رئيس جامعة قطر وعضو اللجنة الوطنية للسلامة المرورية، إن هذه الجائزة إلى جانب البرامج الوطنية الأخرى، من شأنها المساهمة في زيادة الوعي بالسلامة المرورية وتحقيق نظام نقل بري آمن لكافة مستخدمي الطريق، إلى جانب تشجيع كافة الأفراد على الانخراط في منظومة السلامة المرورية وتحفيزهم على خلق أفكار جديدة من شأنها أن تثري منظومة السلامة على الطرق.

وأكد أن الجائزة استمرار للجهود والنجاحات التي حققتها قطر في مجال السلامة على الطرق.. وقال إن دولة قطر في السنوات الماضية كسبت الرهان والعمل على الحد من حوادث المرور حتى أصبحت تنافس الدول المتقدمة وذلك بفضل جهود جميع الجهات على رأسها وزارة الداخلية.

وأضاف أن جميع الهياكل المعنية عملت معا ودون استثناء حيث قامت بتنظيم الأنشطة والفعاليات والحملات التوعوية داخل المؤسسات العامة والخاصة والمؤسسات التعليمية في سبيل بيان مدى خطورة عدم التقيد بإجراءات الأمن والسلامة على الطرق.

وأشار إلى أنه تم تكليف جامعة قطر ممثلة بمركز قطر للنقل والسلامة المرورية بكلية الهندسة من قبل اللجنة الوطنية للسلامة المرورية لتنفيذ العديد من الإجراءات من بينها البرنامج السنوي لجائزة السلامة المرورية وموقع السلامة المرورية لدولة قطر اللذان جرى إطلاقهما يوم الأمس.

من جانبه، قال العميد محمد عبدالله الشهواني المدير العام للمرور والنائب الثاني لرئيس اللجنة الوطنية للسلامة المرورية، إن وزارة الداخلية عازمة على إنجاح كل المبادرات التي تعنى بالسلامة المرورية في دولة قطر ومواصلة العمل في سبيل الارتقاء بها لتحقيق كافة الأهداف المرسومة، لتصبح الدولة بلدا راقيا ونموذجا يحتذى به على صعيد الأمن والسلامة على المستوى العالمي.

وأكد على العمل الجاد والمشترك لتحقيق أهداف الأمم المتحدة للتنمية المستدامة التي صادقت عليها دولة قطر، والمتعلقة بتطوير شبكات الطرق، وخدمات النقل، والحد من الازدحام، وتخطيط النقل، واستعمالات الأراضي، وبناء المدن الذكية.. وقال “استطاعت دولة قطر تحقيق العديد من الانجازات في هذا المجال اضافة الى ذلك سجلت الدولة رقما عالميا جديدا في انخفاض وفيات الحوادث المرورية”.

وأضاف “بالرغم من زيادة عدد السكان وارتفاع عدد المركبات، وزيادة عدد رخص القيادة، إلا أن دولة قطر تجاوزت كل هذه التحديات وواصلت خفض معدل الوفيات الناجمة عن حوادث الطرق لتسجل رقما جديدا هو الأقل (4.4 حالة وفاة لكل مائة ألف نسمة من السكان) عند مقارنته بالعديد من الدول العربية وكذلك دول غرب أوروبا ودول جنوب شرق آسيا ودول أمريكا الشمالية والجنوبية”.

كما أكد العميد الشهواني حرص وزارة الداخلية على إنجاح مبادرة الجائزة السنوية للسلامة المرورية اعترافا بمجهود الأفراد والمؤسسات التعليمية وتشجيعهم على تبني مشاريع وأفكار بروح شبابية مبدعة وخلاقة لإيجاد حلول للمشاكل التي مازالت تواجه منظومة السلامة المرورية لتصبح دولة قطر من ضمن الدول الأولى عالميا في هذا المجال.

وفي كلمته، قال العميد مهندس محمد عبدالله المالكي أمين سر وعضو اللجنة الوطنية للسلامة المرورية، إن هذه الجائزة السنوية للسلامة المرورية تأتي لتقيس مخرجات الوعي المروري لدى جميع فئات المجتمع والتي تتمثل في الابتكارات العلمية والهندسية، والإبداعات الفنية والفكرية وتبني وتنفيذ مشاريع ذات أثر ملموس ومستدام في مجال السلامة المرورية.

وأشار إلى أن الجائزة تهدف إلى تشجيع المسؤولية الاجتماعية لدى مؤسسات القطاع الخاص في الدولة، من خلال برنامج الشراكة الفاعلة بين القطاع الخاص والحكومي لبذل مزيد من العمل الجاد لغرس الثقافة المرورية في المجتمع.

وأوضح أن الجائزة تضم ثلاث فئات هي فئة المؤسسات التعليمية وفئة الأفراد وفئة المؤسسات الحكومية والخاصة، مشيرا إلى أن الفئة الأولى تشمل جميع المراحل الدراسية من رياض الأطفال وجميع المدارس والمعاهد والكليات والجامعات، حيث سيتم اختيار أفضل المشاريع والمبادرات والأبحاث والابتكارات العلمية والفكرية والفنية في مجال السلامة.

ودعا إلى توحيد جهود كل المؤسسات العامة والخاصة والمؤسسات التعليمية وكذلك الأفراد للارتقاء بمنظومة السلامة المرورية والحد من نسبة حوادث المرور والحفاظ قدر الإمكان على أرواح المواطنين والمقيمين وتوفير طرق آمنة وخالية من الحوادث المرورية المميتة.

ولفت العميد المالكي إلى الإنجازات التي تحققت بفضل الاستراتيجية الوطنية للسلامة المرورية 2013-2022.. وقال إنه تم إنجاز نحو 90 بالمئة من خطط ومشاريع هذه الاستراتيجية وهو ما أثمر انخفاضا كبيرا في وفيات الحوادث المرورية إلى 4.4 لكل مائة ألف من السكان وفقا لإحصاءات العام الماضي، ونسعى جاهدين للوصول إلى مستويات أقل خلال السنوات المقبلة.

ونوه بأن اللجنة الوطنية للسلامة المرورية تعمل بالتعاون مع جامعة قطر والإدارة العامة للمرور، على تكثيف الأنشطة واعتماد البرامج التي من شأنها أن تساعد على الحد من الحوادث المرورية والحفاظ قدر الامكان على الأرواح البشرية والممتلكات، من خلال نشر الوعي المروري لدى جميع فئات المجتمع من طلبة المدارس والجامعات والأفراد والمؤسسات الحكومية والخاصة.

وعرض الدكتور محمد يوسف القرضاوي مدير مركز قطر للنقل والسلامة المرورية لفئات الجائزة وشروطها وأحكامها.. مشيرا إلى أن الجائزة سترصد جوائز قيـمة لكل من يساهم بفكرة مبتكرة أو بمشروع أو باختراع جديد غير مسبوق يخدم منظومة السلامة المرورية ويساهم في نشر الوعي المروري ويحاول تدريجيا حل المشاكل التي تتعرض لها المنظومة.

من ناحيته، قال الدكتور ناصر عبدالغني آل عبدالغني، رئيس مجلس إدارة شركة عبدالله عبد الغني وإخوانه /تويوتا/، الراعية لجائزة السلامة المرورية، إن الهدف من هذه الجائزة هو تعزيز أفضل الممارسات لحماية مستخدمي الطريق وبناء إطار عمل جيد لتوفير السلامة للجميع”.

كما تم خلال الحفل إطلاق موقع قطر للسلامة المرورية www.roadsafety.qa والذي يهدف لجمع ونشر الدراسات البحثية والمبادرات في الدولة كمرجع وطني وعالمي. كما يحتوي على المنشورات الأكاديمية والتقارير والفعاليات والورش التدريبية بالإضافة إلى أخبار السلامة المرورية.. إلى جانب كونه منصة لاستلام جميع الترشيحات لجائزة السلامة المرورية لكافة الفئات.
