Little Miracle Panda was born in Washington

Washington: The name Xiao Qi Ji, or “little miracle,” was given to a baby panda born during the summer at the Washington Zoo, as a result of a popular vote in which participants described this birth as a message of joy and hope in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. “The panda is an international symbol of hope and endangered wildlife, and the birth of Xiao Qi Ji has created a moment of joy for the world in the shadow of Covid-19”, the zoo said on its website.
About 135,000 people participated in online voting from 16 to 20 November to choose one of four names proposed by the park, which closed again on Monday due to the renewed outbreak of the Coronavirus. The little boy was born on August 21st, while the park was closed for the first time due to the pandemic, but the moment he was born was filmed by a camera installed in the giant panda’s cage and broadcasted live. A statement issued by the park quoted its officials as describing the name chosen by the public as “ideal” for the little one.

واشنطن: أُطلِقَ اسم شاو تشي جي أو «المعجزة الصغيرة» على صغير باندا وُلِد خلال الصيف في حديقة الحيوانات في واشنطن، بنتيجة تصويت شعبي وصف المشاركون فيه هذه الولادة بأنها رسالة فرح وأمل في خضمّ جائحة كوفيد-19. واعتبرت حديقة الحيوانات عبر موقعها الإلكتروني أن «الباندا رمز دولي للأمل وللحيوانات البرية المهددة بالانقراض، وقد أوجدت ولادة شاو تشي جي لحظة من الفرح للعالم في ظل كوفيد-19».
وشارك نحو 135 ألف شخص في التصويت عبر الإنترنت من 16 إلى 20 نوفمبر لاختيار واحد من أربعة أسماء اقترحتها الحديقة التي أقفلت مجددًا الاثنين بسبب تجدد تفشّي فيروس كورونا. وقد وُلِد الصغير الذّكَر في 21 أغسطس الفائت فيما كانت الحديقة مقفلة للمرة الأولى بسبب الجائحة، لكنّ لحظة ولادته صُوّرت بواسطة كاميرا مثبتة في قفص حيوانات الباندا العملاقة ونُقِلَت في بثّ حيّ. ونقل بيان أصدرته الحديقة عن مسؤولين فيها وصفهم الاسم الذي اختاره الجمهور بأنه «مثالي» للصغير.
